If u stand before the spot right where the barriers start the cars will see u early enough and will be able to stop. They go pretty fast so this is important. There is not much better spots before Hollabrunn, even though this one is not ideal and u need to be careful. 2 cars stopped in 20 minutes. We (2 dudes) held sign CZ.

Amazing spot direction Czechia. Got a ride in less than 5 minutes half way to Znojmo. Probably the best spot for this direction, cars dont go too fast, u can get there by taking the U6 and then by a bus or walk few minutes. the place to stop is big enough and it is blocked of so there are no cars driving through there. U can stand in front of the spot behind the barriers so that the cars see u early enough.

I generally love hitchhiking at the border, but this was hell. They controlled almost every car at the border, meaning they had to take out their bags, search them and all this fun stuff so this meant the traffic was mby 1 car every 3 minutes, the cars were also most of the times full. there is enough space to stop, but when the cars have to wait for 2 hours at the border, i cant imagine that they want to take hitchhikers afterwards. We managed to get a ride thanks to some fellow Czechs, which we already met at a different border lol. Mby we were just unlucky that day.

so much place to stop, great people working at the café next to the gas station, so be nice to them!!! Be careful if u are thinking u can get to this spot from the gas station on the other side of the intersection through the field roads, its a prank!!! we went there at night and the road just ends and there is a big hole filled with spiky blackberries, i dont recommend falling in there 2/10 experience. so u need to either take a detour further down the fields and hope for the best or just go through the highway as we did lol

I mean its not a bad spot for Belgrade, but for Sofia there is not many cars going to Pirot, we waited mby 4 hours and then we took a break, became friends with the toll gate staff, got coffee from them, had a proper hour-long cig break and magically at around 9 pm when it was already dark the first car we tried to stop after the break stops and gets us to Pirot, so if I shall give a recommendation, ask for some of that magical coffee stuff theyve got at the gate

We spent a night here and couldnt get a ride for a very long time, not many cars and the ones that stop here are full of families. I would recommend going to different petrol station than EuroOil. We managed to hitch a ride after about 4 hours of hitchhiking by asking people around.

Easy to catch a ride along the SS12 route, ideal for off-highway direction towards Verona. I would recommend taking this route to avoid getting stuck on the highway, its very easy to catch rides all the way to Verona, it took us 3 rides and we waited mby 30 minutes alltogether.

very bad spot, the highway sign is placed so that all the good spots for hitchhiking are blocked off and you will be risking a fine if you pass it, also be careful, it turns out there are 2 signs marking the start of the highway, where one of them is just for show i guess cuz we got police kicking us out behind the first one, which we didnt notice at first. If you are heading towards Firenze it should be okay since we got like 5 cars stopping, but noone is heading towards Bologna. If u end up here going towards Bologna, I recommend making a sign and standing at the road marked by the map, where most cars pass through and try finding a place with the most space at this road, its not ideal, but its better than nothing.

Good spot towards the highway, but I would not recommend going towards the highway if you are heading towards Bologna, since there is not much place to stop for cars before the entrance to the highway and in front of the gate it is illegal, we waited there around 4 hours, so id only hitchhike towards the highway if ur heading towards Firenze, otherwise try taking the non-highway route to Bologna.

Easy to hichhike here, would recommend if you have some specific place between Lyon and Macon. I must say we got so lucky on this one, there is place to stop for cars, but there is no traffic at all, only 5 cars passed in 30 minutes, we tried to hitchhike on the main road for a while, but the cars go way to fast and there is no place to stop, luckily one lady saw us hitchhiking on the main road and decided to head back for us at the next exit and it turns out she is going to the exact same place we wanted to go to.
