Genuinely waited less than a minute and a truck pulled over. Had a sign for Karabutak, but the guy was heading all the way to Shymkent. Super friendly guy. Let us sleep in the cab as he has a bunk bed set up, saved us setting up our tent at 3 in the morning. Refused all payments so we sneakily got him some more cigarettes and jumped out at Turkistan. Camped round the back of the petrol station at the intersection, nice bathrooms and cafe sitting area to charge things. Would be a good spot to go either north or south. We got the second truck and were taken all the way to Aktobe. No shade :(

Anyone heading through is either going Atyrau or Aktobe. Minimart for water :) Roads were shit after here but shared some food and music and the kms flew by

Much better spot than the petrol station just down the road. Cars ARE moving faster but you get all the traffic that normally goes in the faster lanes that avoids the petrol station. I had a sign for Trabzon and got scooped up by a trucker almost immediately. He said heaps of trucks run from Samsun to Trabzon/Rize and back every day and this was the best spot for getting out of Samsun. Idk worked for me Thanks Baruk

After a bit a truck driver asked them if he could pick me up and i got a lift straight to Samsun (it did take 2 days as our truck only went 80kms/h and we lost breaks.) You can get to this spot by the 966 but after u get to the end of the metro (I think it only takes credit card as mine didn’t work so they just let me on for free) It’s not the best spot, but there is lots of traffic and room for cars and trucks to pull over. It is on a hill so often the cars are in the outer two lanes. I had a sign for uşak but lots of truck drivers point up saying they were going north. A truck pulled over after about 30 mins and said he was going up towards Istanbul and I just took it

Got here super late and were left on this side of the border. We (boy girl) were aiming to just walk across but didn’t realise YOU NEED TO BE IN A CAR TO CROSS THE BOARDER. We ended up camping (put a pin there) in a field a bit further back. Big ish group of transient people drinking in the old abandoned service stations that were a bit sketch. Our camp spot proved to be find tho. Next day we came back and were scooped up in ~30 mins with a sign for Istanbul. The guys were heading to Izmir so we just decided to go there too

Not the best spot for a Tuesday morning. There was no traffic from the service station or fast food, so we had to switch from a Belgrade sign to a +10kms and try at the roundabouts. After a while a guy stopped (in the middle of the road) and said he could get us down the road a bit. We paid for this toll and he dropped us at the first petrol station. We got the 461 bus and walked on the dirt roads next to the highway (few stray dogs that were territorial but not aggressive) and then climbed up where there was a small road underpass where there was no fence. Was told this was a decent spot to go south, where our lift had seen lots of other hitchhikers but it sucks. If you can, get out at the service station 5kms up the highway that has a toilet and truck stop. Most cars here seemed to point that they were heading north, but also there is no room for them realllly to pull over We got told off by police for trying to hitch here and gave up, deciding to hitch into Villach and then out the other side onto the highway.

I definitely got lucky. The sports not bad at all but idk about traffic. First car got me. I originally got picked up at Maidstone by some Belgium guys, they said they were heading across but when we got into Dover they mentioned it was 9pm that night. I jumped out and thanked them but realised I either had to go back up the m20 and find someone going for the tunnel, or I was kinda screwed. This guy just happened to be really eccentric and scooped me up IF YOU WANT THE TUNNEL MAKE SURE YOUR RIDE FROM MAIDSTONE CAN GET YOU THROUGH

You’ve gotta hop a fence and it’s a bit of a trek to get there but good to find long distance. Make sure they’re going a fair way before hopping in. Had to turn down 2 before getting one to rome

I was told this was the best spot to try and get out of the town. Sounded kind of dumb and might have been. The trucks do not go through the down, but rather down and along a backroad and rejoin towards Kerinci (sus my later points) which is probably why I was dropped here. It might be smarter (if possible) to get to the east side of the city and hope for a car or ute to take you to Kerinci, then try and get a car from there. I found most people were just confused and wanted to take me to the bus station. Ended up getting moved down the road by a bike

Really good spot as the road coming out of the border checkpoint is a bit dodgy so people have to slow down. Space for them to stop in the taxi rank. Most trucks will turn left to the industrial estate at the first intersection so go for cars. Was here late in the evening but don’t think there would be shade. I got unlucky I think as there wasn’t much traffic. Be careful and don’t get stuck as the border shuts from 11pm to 5am (Thai time)

This spots a bit tricky depending on the time of day. Unfortunately most of the day it’s Vietnamese trucks which don’t go to Phnom Penh (if you’re going that way). It’s best to move a bit back from the Cambodian side of the boarder. Only maybe 100m and you’ll see that all the cars that drop people at the boarder chuck a u-ie and then come past you. Most will ask for money but with a Phnom Penh sign I got a free lift in ~30 mins (30 mins waiting at the boarder in the wrong spot)
