Not sure why other reviews are so positive, couldn’t figure out where they’d been hitching from as it’s a busy road onto a motorway and it’s pretty much impossible to walk onto the slip road so you’re just stuck asking people at a traffic lights. Try the eastern slip road instead, I found it much more chill and managed to get a lift from there
Would recommend this spot over the other slip road onto the M6 from Carlisle, in the north, I went there first and it’s near impossible to get on without walking down a busy road. I went here after and it’s much more chill, just walk straight onto the slip road, took me a while to get a lift but eventually two lads took me all the way to Edinburgh so just hold tight and eventually you’ll get a lift
Great spot to go north, slip road out on to the M6 where cars have go slow and have plenty of time to see you and stop (legally I believe). Also, a bunch of truckers going long distances, into Scotland. Top spot
Read about on hitchwiki. It’s a junction and one way takes you onto the M28, one way on smaller roads to Ormskirk. I flittered about between the two but eventually got a lift on the smaller road to Ormskirk… however I ended up getting stuck here as these little villages inbetween Liverpool and Preston are pretty hard to hitchhike out of. Equally, I’m not sure if cars can actually pull over on the M28 road, and it is most definitely illegal to stand there. So all in all, not a great spot, if you want to hitchhike north out of Liverpool your best bet honestly is just getting the X2 bus to Preston and hitchhiking onto the M6 out of Preston it’s way more straightforward.
Great spot, got a lift almost immediately (although that’s luck too). Can’t imagine waiting here for over half an hour as all cars are going north and there’s a steady stream of them. Plenty of service stations that are easy to hitch out of on the way
