Best place to HH from Almaty to Bishkek, Chimkent. Just look on 2GIS how to get there, I believe it was bus 136, 245 and 247. Could pay with cash (200 tenge). Got a ride in no time further on the highway but my new friend Kourik (45M) destroyed his vehicle and I had to do HH again hope you're well bro.

Direction Tashkent. Lot of cars will ask you for money so make sure it's free. I have hitchhike after the place where everyone else is hitchhiking. To go there I took bus 101 and then a minibus t'as goes there. Just ask the locals in the city. It is a spot where locals hitchhike to Tashkent. If you want to get faster, it is fair to give few euro to drivers. I found a shared private taxi but I felt a bit bad and gave like one euro to the driver at the end.

Good spot to go direction Samarcand. Make sure it's free : BIEZ DIENEG. Plenty of trucks going there, slow traffic, some shadows, close to city if you need to eat or something. Got direct lift to Samarcand with Zima (M41).

Direction Samarcand. Good spot don't use a sign "Samarcand". Some people got lucky and got a direct lift for free : good for them. Reality is you will get harassed by lots of taxis and locals to pay for a trip to Samarcand. This is just how people here do. I stop using the sign and got a lift further for free where I got someone directly for Samarcand. Just try to get out of here, this is a station with taxis and public transports where it's just weird to ask for free rides. But it can also work, this is just advice to get faster a direct ride. Taken by a couple (M48)

Objective : Bukhara. Indeed very good spot. I was offered a melon 🍈 and then a redhead teenager talked to me. At this moment a bus stopped. I was like : naaah I don't want to pay. I then explained in ouzbek than I travel without money from France and the bus manager said "OK LET'S GO". Made a lot of friends in the bus ! All nice people. Was also offered launch. Deo Gratias!

Well this is the spot where people go further or to Nukus. I've been a bit stupid in not understanding that everyone in UZ drive a white Chevrolet and I thought they were all taxis, kind of dystopic. Also, several people stopped and asked money so it comfort me in this thought. Then a bus stopped for me and I thought maybe I've hitchhiked a bus for free but probably not. Indeed I paid 11€ to go to Nukus. Quite a lot but hey, we learn everyday

Excellent spot to go South, you have a shop, restaurant, toilets, lot of traffic. It took me more time because I basically was with three young kazaks and they wanted to hitchhike with me (they were also HH to Aktau) and while I went to buy water inside they found two cars and we went two by two ! You don't really have a choice anyway but not the perfect spot. When I was there, no trucks were entering KZ, just cars (often full) and taxis. Very low traffic as well. Somehow, a small truck driver stopped and brought me all the way to Atyraou! God is good ! Thanks Ruslan 🇰🇿🏹

At the Russian checkpoint, you need a car to cross it. E-VISA DOESN'T WORK HERE (2026). I just asked the first car and they accepted, they were 4 nice people inside ! You need to stay with them until you cross the Kazak checkpoint so be patient. Also, the Russian soldiers were really cool, I was worried about having lost my migration card and got nothing bad.

To go here from Astrakhan, you need to get the bus 109 from the Bus Vokzal (to "Krasnyi Yar" at the right of the train station. I did not really understand where to go out so I just quit the Marshrutka in the middle of Krasnyi Yar then walked maybe 20 minutes. It was nice tho, and doing stop there was quite pleasant. Really easy to get a lift to the border. Thanks Alexei and Alexei!

I think here is not a bad spot but try to get a lift to at least Tver or a gas station far from Moscow where you can catch some truck doing long distance. Maybe it's even better to take a train that goes far away from the city to start HH, incredible amount of local traffic. I did the mistake to accept a ride from a actually good guy, Vladimir, but I lost almost 2-3 hours with him because I thought he was going to Saint Petersburg and he invited me, showed me around etc. He dropped me in a empty gas station where most of people again were locals.

Never had such problems with hitchhiking. Looks like perfect spot but there was a big problem with gas so lot of queue. You can think that lot of people will be able to see you and take you further...well no : nobody on 8 hours took me even when I was talking to them. Direction Moscow : plenty of cars but nobody stopped and a lot were full. Voronej ? Nobody stopped. ROSTOV ? Nobody was going there (at least, from what they said). I met another Russian dude that was working there, Nikita, and like me he needed to go to Rostov. We tried so hard and nobody stopped, not even the Mashoutka on the highway and of course internet was not working in that zone so even getting a taxi took us 2 hours. Gas problem was impacting so much the drivers psychology it's insane!!! Anyway, it was interesting experience tho hahaha

This sound like a random place but it's the best to go to Rostov on Don easily. I asked the soldiers to find me a car that goes there and they said ok even though they just found a car going a bit further. So I used a sign and after 15 minutes I found a Gregori, Belarusian truck driver that took me all the way to Rostov-on-Don. I also sleep in the back of his truck xD Deo gratias ! There is also toilets, restaurants etc.

June 2026 : you need a car to go to the customs. Just go to the military outpost where all the cars are waiting, they checked my passport, talked and laugh with me (they love Italians) and the soldiers even took a picture all of us xD They said I need a car and I just asked if they can help me finding one so it was pretty easy. At the customs, read this well : I got down and asked if I can pass, the soldier said I need a car so I got back in the previous one. No one want to pass the customs with a foreigner (especially in Russia) so I know I had to get out at some point. However, the guards called all the passenger to get out of the car and pass by walk, perfect ! I was just asked where I plan to go, my backpack wasn't event checked. Everything very easy but I know it has been not the same for everyone. Kind of weird because today the situation is even more risky than before with drone attacks. Deo Gratias!

June 2026 : no problem at all to get out of Georgia by walk. Guards said nothing, I even asked if I can walk and they said yes. Just pass by the duty free building on the right. Guards will ask if you have a Russian visa. Personally I got a tourist visa back in Paris before starting my trip. You can basically walk the whole way to the Russian side BUT the tunnels are dangerous IMO. There is kind of a sidewalk but it's very narrow and you can fall from it in the total dark so I preferred to hitchhike, a Georgian truck driver took me until after the two tunnels. It's up to you but don't take any risks please 🥺

One advice : go back to Mestia ASAP, most of the people go for tours in the morning but everyone left between 2 and 3 PM. If like me, you were condamned to walk in the tunnel to the border, just pass the first tunnel (easy) and will arrive here. Talk with the manager and explain the situation he might find someone for you. Or just talk to the people. It's gonna be too long and dangerous walking to the checkpoint.

Not good spot but best than the other one imo. Police passed by and said nothing, no one is in danger. People looked at me better than the previous one. Indeed a quite good spot, you have to go on the middle way close to the crosswalk. Two people stopped for me and I decided to go with the flow and not waiting a lift for Trabzon for 4 hours so got a lift to Görele with two cool guys that invited me for Thea in front of the sea...thanks Mehmet and Kubilaï!

Good spot to go to Bursa. There are the cars that comes from the ferry wave by wave but none of them stopped. I was taken by one of the truck from the truck agency just after the toll station. He was going to Bursa but I was going to Eskisehir so I asked him to drop me in a gas station.

It was a Sunday so most probably that's why it took so long : every car was full ! And I did not get too much attention. I don't understand how the others "talked to truck driver" because truck drivers just go to the toll station and pass. It's not a parking or something. However a lot of cars are parked but again full most of the time. I accepted to get a ride in the other side of the ferry, was a good decision. Thanks Seyfullah!

Good spot to go East. I was offered a ride easily to Ankara but I refused because my goal was Eskisehir/Bursa. Had a lift to Gebze after 40mn to take the boat BUT most of the drivers don't go to the ferry ⛴️ so they will just let you in a random place in Gebze and you might have to walk 1 hour to go there.

Perfect spot to go to the border (Guevgueliya). Once there, walk one hour, don't wait another lift to the border crossing. Most people are afraid to bring strangers to the checkpoint and by walking you're almost faster than the queue to enter Greece. Just hitchhike after the checkpoint. Low traffic gas station and cars are often full but almost all of them go to Serbia and to Belgrade. You can find a car that is not full. Not the ideal but probably the best to go out of Zagreb. I took bus 281 but you can also take bus 276. A car stopped after 20mn but they were going north. Got a ride to Slavonski Brod after an hour. Thank you Šimečka. You will need a big cardboard and you can find some in the trash in the corner of the gas station outside.

I waited two hours but it was a low traffic day and eventually there was some works on the gas station. Definitely the best place to go west ! Got a ride to Leipzig. If you really want to go to Germany it's completely doable there's a lot of Germans. Actually more than Austrians haha. But you have to talk to them. We have been picked up by Tiberiu which is a truck driver, imagine how possible for a car it is to stop for a bit. But nobody did... Got a lift to Tg. Mures, we will see there to go to Cluj. Ok so I guess I was lucky to have a couple of kind italians taking me to Ventimiglia in like 10mn of waiting. BUT I think, if it wasn't them, I could wait a lot. There's almost no room to stop, it's just after the border so there are some cops & carabinieri and it puts a negative atmosephere for hitchhiking which reflects on people attitude.
