Finding a car at this border checkpoint was not fun. You can easily cross the border on foot, even though it is a car-only checkpoint, just approach the booth, show them your passport, and you're set. But finding a car willing to take me anywhere was a complete pain in the ass, most of the drivers were not willing to stop because of the police presence. If they stop for the shops/toilets, they are usually packed with stuff, especially during the holiday season. But the Serbian cops are awesome. They did not bother me at all, and when they had a shift change (7 pm Serbian time), one of them asked me about my goal (he saw that I was stuck there for 5 hours) and stopped a car for me going all the way to Czechia. Maybe soliciting a ride in the queue between the Bulgarian and Serbian checkpoints would be easier, but you can't really do that once you enter Serbia.

Maybe I just got unlucky, but I stood here for more than an hour. For the first 50 minutes, I stood here with a sign SRB. After that, I switched to Dragoman and got a ride to a gas station there in half an hour. I would say a lot of local traffic. The traffic light is 30 sec green, 30 sec red.

I think this is an awesome spot. If you have the energy to ask, there are a lot of people stopping here for a quick bite, if not, just thumbing with a sign worked pretty decently for me. I really cool dude stopped for me and brought me all the way to Sofia. The cars are slow, and there is a place to stop easily.

At a border checkpoint, I arrived late in the day and was asking around at the nearby truck stop. You can definitely find somebody there, but I had no luck. After that, I stood at the beginning of the highway with a sign reading "Arad," just to move to a better station, and after about 20 minutes, a very nice guy brought me there.

After nearly an hour with no one stopping, I moved to the highway ramp. (sign Olesnica, Lodz, Warszawa). Cars can go in so many different directions, and the traffic lights are likely sensor-based (or precisely timed), so they do not have much time to look at your sign or stop.

Good spot, if you don't want to ask around. The traffic is bottlenecked here because the other routes from the roundabout are still under construction. Just be aware that there are a bunch of fuckers working on the nearby construction, so if a van filled with a bunch of laughing guys in high viz stops, don't get in. They will not bring you to York, but to a nearby construction site, and you will have to walk back here.

This is likely a good spot, but I just unlucky. I came here in the evening and tried to thumb a ride to Dundee. Tried for two hours, asked at the gas station, nothing worked. Then I slept hidden in nearby bushes (it's hidden and doable, not comfortable) and continued the next morning. It took me like 20 minutes to thumb a car. Btw, the gas station staff is awesome, I went here in the evening (around 8pm) asked for a cardboard and the guy told me that I can have all the pastry that I want because he has to throw it out. Don't count on that, but he made my day.

I would very much advice you not to hitchhike from this place. I tried red light hitchhiking, it worked for me before, but not here. The lights changes fast, so there is no time to stop and for direction Cambridge the traffic is pretty weak as well. I had to walk to a nerby gas station like 6 kilometers and it was not a pleasant experience in scorching summer heat. But if you have to walk to the same gas station as I did, don't use Google maps, you can easily walk around the farms, it's only private property when it comes to cars and it's easily walkable.

Ok, this is my short rant about getting to the UK. It's hard, like really hard. Stop thinking about that in your average hitchhiking times, multiple it by 10. It's like waiting for Godot, but it's the same as ever, it's not matter of change, but time and persistence. I got lucky with a Norwegian car, they told me that they are going in two days and I agreed. But it's extremely difficult and absolute majority don't want to even speak to you once they hear the word UK. Foreign license plates are your goal, but it's still going to be a massive pain. I approached UK cars without a sign and just waved my sign to anyone else. Have your passport and ETA ready and the best of luck for all of you.

Absolutely the best spot towards Prague. Slow cars, good spot to stop, could be seen easily by drivers. Hitched from here a lot of times times and never waited here for more than 10 minutes. To be honest, not the greatest spot, but the best, when it comes to car going from Prague to Slaný and you need to get to Chomutov. Ask around, you only need ride to Lotouš and from there it's easy. (Look up Lotouš place I created) Not a lot of cars stopping here, but you don't need long ride.

Lotouš is the best place to get off when going to Chomutov, but the car goes only to Louny. Hitched from here multiple times and always worked becouse of the 50km/h speed limit. Sign adviced. There is a bus stop, where the cars can easily stop.

To be honest, not really great spot. Hitch was not slow by any means, but gas station personal kicked me out, so I had to stand on the parking nearby. One tip to getting here from Brno. Get the train to Brno - Starý Lískovec, from there you must walk to Martina Ševčíka street and just before you cross under highway you need to climb up next to highway on the side of the gas station. The climb is kinda steep, but doable even with large backpack and dress shoes. You need to walk next to highway (BUT BEHIND THE RAILING, THERE IS QUITE A LOT OF SPACE), until you reach the gas station. Take care, stay safe.
