We're inching closer to submitting the Hitchmap app to the App Store and Play Store. It has all of the functionality of the website, plus:
Faster loading times and less data usage, while still working offline. The app caches all reviews on your phone and only refreshes them once a week, or when you click the refresh button.
The ability to record your trips, as shown in the screenshot. This data isn't visible to other users. The spots you're soliciting rides (blue circles in the screenshot) are automatically detected. These spots can later easily be chain-reviewed.
The ability to share your location with friends/family.
The part that needs most testing is the recording functionality while hitchhiking, as all Android phones have their own quirks. Just start recording from the moment you start soliciting rides, stick your phone in your pocket and stop recording once you're at your destination. Among other things, this will allow you to display all of your trips on the map afterwards. Recording data is kept private: other users will not be able to view it.
