This is a great spot, there is a lot of trafic and a lot of people going long distaces. Drivers can stop here easely, a few of them stop there to take pictures, so you can ask them directly. We made a sign and got pick up almost immedeately. A very nice Kanadian man took us straight to Split.

(2 people, f, 26 + m, 49) We split up. One of us approached drivers at the gas station while the other tried hitching from the side of the road. One car stopped and asked for money. Shorty after got a lift us to Suceava from the side of the road. The driver was very kind and took a huge detour. He brought us to the station just in time to hop on our train.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a cloudy day, drizzling. On my way from here to Sibiu. I finished hiking 3,5 kms south of this place. Initially I thought it'd be fairly easy to HH here. But the road which looked easy on the map turned out to be quite busy, main road, but physically narrow. I walked 3,5 kilometres when cars passed me by inches (no sidewalk, no nothing), splashing me with water (a huge pour down just finished), to find a first place where a car could pull over. The place is on the inside side of a curve, which means less visibility. But has enough space to stop. Bad thing was that cars were driving fast here. And, for some strange reason , coming in waves. So drivers had a split second to make the decision, with other cars just behind. Luckly for me after 25 minutes two friendly guys stopped and took me to Sibiu. Less than 1 kilometre up north, just after the railway bridge is a place which looks way better.

Loads of space for cars to pull over if you are going south/split, little shade tho. Also good amount of traffic, after 20 minutes we (2 guys) had a ride to split. Used split sign

A lot of people go to Mrkonjic Grad and not Jajce, but you can accept the ride and get out where the roads split. Indeed, cars go fast but they have a lot of space to pull over.

After some asking with a sign to Split, we managed to find a guy who took us all the way to Makarska. There are enough cars going south.

pretty much instantly to split. in summer(high season) reject short rides. stand between two lanes, don't try to get more. SIGN would be EXTRA useful. i did thumbing and got to split. dude took me with regional roads instead of autobahn, it was super fun.

Very nice spot, a lot of visibility and a lot of traffic. I followed the advice of the previous post and stood at the junction of the road and the gas station. The road split to go East or North so you need a sign to have the right people to stop. Got a ride to Rocky Harbour quite fast.

Friendly guy took us to another parking -->Better spot is a little further down the road (last parking before highway split to Nyíregyháza and Romania direction, there is also has station), in this spot there is water + toilet

Got a ride close to split pretty quick. Not the easiest place for ppl to stop

Stood at the exit direction Paris with a 'Reims' sign. Got picked up by a truck, that brought me to the service station before the roads to Paris and Reims split

Loads of cars all going the same road, I had a sign and got picked up within 2 min (crazy!) there’s a food/drinks place here too, as well as a bus stop going to split

In theory great spot for Split/Rijeka/Zagreb, it's just full of tourists that don't take people and for the truckers it's good to catch them at the right time(for me early morning, as i slept here)

quickly got a short ride a few exits down, which I took because it was after the Atlanta exit on the I-75 north south split. nice people here

Got picked up after a really short wait with a sign saying "Zadar/Split", waited around 50m north the petrol station bc talking to people there hasnt worked out before. Got picked up by a lovely Croatian who took us all the way to split 1 male 1 female + luggage

Got a ride into the centre of Čačak from the village I was being hosted in, a bit past the bus stop. This spot or a bit further down near the NIS petrol station at the road split was recommended as a good place to hitch to Kraljevo/Kragujevac.

such a pretty rest area, almost didn't want to leave lol i'd say ~50% go in the direction marseille, 40% in the direction nimes, montpellier and 10% some places inbetween the upcoming highway-split found a ride in the morning to montpellier quite quickly also true: great spots to camp and spend the night not true anymore: dumpster accessability
