Got a lift til Lahti in 60mins, and several offers to get taken to the highway.I stood just _before_ the traffic lights, which was recommend to me by a local passing by. (maybe that's good because drivers don't accelerate yet, don't have to stop at the bus station (where indeed many busses stop), and still have enough time to pull over into the empty space next to the street (which at this point is still within in city limits so no need to worry about "stopping on the highway") idk.)

A bus stop just before the roundabout a good place to hitchhike to Lahti or Helsinki.―Anonymous, July 2016

It is a bus stop and there are traffic lights before it so the cars are driving slowly and it is easy to see you. I have hitchhiked from this place to lahti and helsinki many times. You will probably catch a ride to Vaajakoski/ABC and there is a good place to continue.―Mustikki, July 2016

It is indeed better to stand just behind the traffic lights. There is also a trick you can try if you stand behind the traffic lights : if you push the button for pedestrians to cross the street, the cars get a red light and there is a bigger chance that they will see you and their speed is much slower. That's how I got a ride to Lahti after 20 minutes.―Bonkers1990, June 2014

Agree, tried to hitch to the north from the bus stop, right after the traffic lights. Although it seems, like a lot of space for cars to stop - no results. But hitching in the end of bus stop, I got a ride to Lahti direction in 1.5 h on autumn morning.―MustacheHitcher, November 2013

Not very useful but I write it down just for fun. I was walking in this tiny country road coming back from a little festival and the first car I met stopped and I got a ride straight to Lahti by a guy who didn't even know there was a festival in the neighbourhood!―Anonymous, July 2013

A bus stop, both the cars from the ABC petrolstation and from Lahti go through here. And the cars can you see you at the lights...―Anonymous, September 2011

Quite good, tho it's a little harder to go to Lahti than Kuopio, because you'll either lose some trafic if you go on the bus stop (or have to take the 644 road which may become a trap), or put yourself on a spot a bit further the roundabout, where cars have a bit less space.―EggDestroyer, September 2011

Not allowed for pedestrians but a good place after traffic lights. Not a lot of space indeed but got a ride from a big truck in Lahti direction.―Anonymous, July 2011

Towards Varkhaus, Mikkeli, Lahti or Helsinki. Actually this spot is nothing special, I was waiting aprox. 2 hours. Traffic is not dense, try to get to road 23 and you will be more succesful.―Anonymous, May 2011

Towards Lahti or Porvoo/Kotka/KouvolaIn the beginning of the extra long bus stop. Because the place is not behind the motorway sign, it is legal stopping and also Finnish cars will stop. Because the road splits quickly to two main directions, having a sign is important.

A bit far from centrum, but if you end up to here, there is a good bus-stop where you can hitchhike from. And lights for cars. Directions: Jyväskylä and Lahti.rating: 3/5

To Kuopio, Mikkeli and Lahti. First you should take ride to the ABC in Vaajakoski. You can use sign "ABC" (people will understand). From ABC it's very easy to continue both (Lahti/Kuopio) directions.rating: 4/5

Near university of applied sciences (TAMK). To Lahti and Jyväskylä. There is a good bus-stop where you can hitchhike ("Kissanmaa"). You can walk here from city center. You can take a car going to wrong city, but remember to jump out before motorways. Using sign isn't necessary. Wating times: 5-40min.rating: 4/5
