Within 20 minutes we found someone to take us to central Lyon. Pretty busy even in the afternoon with lots of people going to Lyon. We were also offered a lift to Cannes.

Me and my girlfriend got a ride to Cannes in less than 15 min because a woman came spontaneously to offer us a ride.

A good place with low traffic and easy enough to get a ride to Cannes.

Very good place to get a ride to the West. I have waited 20min and got a ride to the 1st petrol station just before Cannes (broad a sign "Cannes"). If there is no train (http://www.ter.sncf.com/paca/), take the tramway to Vauban station, then behind the tram stop take the bus n°6 to "Bon Voyage" station. Then find the highway

Great spot! Thank you! I guess it was not easy to find it... I have been waiting 1h (between 8am and 9am) to get a ride, but this place has potential. Easy for cars to stop, a lot of traffic, and cars going slowly. Use a cartoon "Cannes - A8" to get the big gas station just before Cannes exit. If people stop before I suggest to stay here waiting for the right car. Some precisions: dont be afraid to get on the highway by foot. Try to walk on the other side of the safety barrier, not so easy at the beginning. Also it takes faster by train from "Nice-ville" (main station) to "L'Ariane-la-Trinité" (it is 7min). schedules on this website: http://www.ter.sncf.com/paca/. Cross the bridge in front of the train station and go left to the entrance of the highway: you can see the viaduct (10min walking)

There is a lot light street in this crossroad but time when car are stopped is short. There is a lot traffic since the other entry is closed. I did not find better place. So I tried in all traffic light with a sign "Cannes" because the first big gas station is just before the exit of Cannes which is 30km away. Then it is easy to get a lift. I have been 1h waiting

10 juillet 2014.

Took me 1 1/2 hour to get a ride to Cannes. Lots of cars go there but will not take you.

Huge service station, lot of traffic but expect long waiting if you want to get to Italy. Most of the people who stop by are going to Nice. Also, a lot of rich people who don't like to see tramps in their Audis.

If you get thrown out in Cannes (as I was) and despite the above still want to give this place a go, here is how you can get here - the legal way.

From Exit 42 you will need to find your way to Chemin du Belvedere which goes parallel to the highway. The roads are quite creepy especially by night so I wouldn't recommend it for girls. Once you reach the other end of the road, turn left, then turn left again. BE CAREFUL, there is no pavement and very scarce lighting, I almost got run over in the dark. Walk along the Chemin du Ferrandou until you reach the service station. The area is fenced but at the farther end there is a revolving door so you can enter without climbing the fence.

The good thing is that the shop manager lets people sleep inside after the restaurant is closed, so with a lattice and sleeping bag you can get a decent night's sleep in darkness and safety if you run out of rides.

Definitely, definitely do not get dropped off here. There is a huge Autogrill just a few kilometers away towards Brescia which serves well both for Milan and Genoa. Unfortunately I mistook this coffee stop (NO petrol station here!) for that place and got stuck here for nearly 2 hours. (Although afterwards I managed to get a direct ride down to Cannes, FR :)).

We were two girls going to Montpellier. This place is quite dangerous but still we got a ride after 10 min max. Maybe worth trying but there must be better places close to Cannes...

It's really easy to take a lift if you have a sign "CANNES" and get off the Shell Petrol Station before Cannes.

Direction Aix - En - Provence, Cannes. Hitch-hike at the traffic lights when the cars are stop. You can ask the drivers to advance you at the first gas station on the highway. It's usefull to speak some french.

there are 2 entrace to highway in nice, i wtayed in both of them for hours, in rain, the small road by the see is impossible also, but there is a localbus going to cannes for 1 euro, it takes 2 almost 2 hours cause it stops at every station but if you start your journey early in themorning its easier to hitch from cannes ,,,
