Even if we had a sign to Chambéry - Grenoble, 4 people stopped and proposed us a ride to Annecy (which was the opposite way... Feel like people don't know their geography well over here) but the 5th car took us to a petrol station after Chambéry.

Someone offers us a ride to the Péage. It is not the best place to stop, but on a friday evening, lot of people working in the industries nearby are going back to Annecy or Chambéry.

A girl saw that we were writing a sign to Chambéry and proposed us a ride to Rumilly. Her car was parked on the parking lot next to the street.

Great spot with loads of traffic. If you're getting here via Berchem station and want to cross the bridge, don't trust google maps. Had to take the long way to the gas station.
Luckily didn't take too long to get a ride. Legend drove me all the way to Chambéry

Really good to go to Chambéry or even Grenoble (less frequent), but if you want to go to Albertville, you may go to secondary road at 5 min walking.

Do NOT stop there hoping for a ride to Lyon, the highway splits at the same level so traffic goes elsewhere. If stranded there, a sign saying "Vénissieux" or "Villeurbane" would help. Someone took me to a bus stop there and I could reach Lyon eventually but it was a mistake to stop there, almost no traffic.
If you are coming from Chambéry and your driver doesn't go inside Lyon, stopping at "Relais l'Isle d'Abeau Nord" 20km before is best.

Great spot for Geneva, you have to climb over the barrier on the bridge but it is worth it! I used a sign because cars are also heading towards Chambéry

I really dont know what's the best strategy to leave Chambéry. We went there, easy access from the green bike road, but bad spot. Lot of truck, cars go fast to accelerate before the highway.
It's not impossible, but doesn't feel safe.

Quite a good spot even though there is not that great traffic in the morning. Good way to get to Grenoble or Chambéry.

Got a lift to Chambéry, most of the cars going northward but there are still some which are heading south

arriving from nantes, we get off here from a car going to orléans because our aim was lyon and chambéry. it was lunch time and there were quite many people going in all possible directions (nantes, orléans, poitiers, bourges). we got a ride direct to chambéry (wouhou) after about 1h, but other people had offered us a ride in other directions before.

LOTS of traffic, so we tried with a sign to Nimes directly. That was a bit over the top, but we got picked up to Chambéry after changing the sign. Total waiting time: 1h.

A lot of lights, choose the one which stop a lot of cars. To Grenoble or Chambery, it works very good. Ask for the pay station "St Quentin Fallavier"
