I tried to start there by 9 in the morning. I got a good ride to Dijon. but I was lucky. it is not a really high frequented service station. like okay. but I've seen better ones. anyways good spot, easy to arrive there by public transport from Lyon centrerating: 4/5, wait: 45 min 💬+🪧

Very good spot. I always leave Montpellier from there. You can go to the west (Béziers, Narbonne, Toulouse, Perpignan...) or the east and north (Nîmes, Marseilles, Lyon ...)This time I had a sign "Toulouse" and got a ride directly to Frouzins (south west of Toulouse). A guy solo with just one place. This day I hitchiked with a French girl going from Marseilles to Toulouse. We had to separate since the guy had just one place. If you read this message, I hope you got a lift and could manage to reach Toulouse on time ;)rating: 5/5, wait: 20 min 🪧, ride: 257 km ←

Okay so we we arrived at Gare du Lyon at in the evening, got some kebab and continued our journey north. We knew about this station from the hitch south. From gare the lion we took the train to fosses and than a connecting bus to survilliers. The public transport trip took about an hour and costs 7,50 pp. We think it's worth the effort, considering the fact that we had a tent to camp at the station. From survilliers it's about 30 minutes walking through the industrial areas, which was quite scetch in the dark with all the cars racing by. Once we got to the petrol station we found a hole in the fence to enter the station, which was unnessecairy since there was also just a walkway a bit further. There are some nice grassy bushes to camp a bit away from the people on the station. In the morning we started hitching at 9 and after an hour we got a ride from this cool Canadian band all the way to Utrecht. Shout-out to Cola™️ for putting us on the guest list, you guys are great.rating: 4/5, wait: 60 min 💬+🪧

We didn't use this spot... But !We were trying to enter the highway to Lyon from here. So many cars told us that they were going to Marseille. If you are reaching Marseille, I think it's a perfect spot. After 30min trying with a sign Lyon - Avignon, we decided to move to another spot.

Going to Lyon, we got a ride to Valence. We tried on a sunday afternoon, under a small rain, and there was not a lot of cars going this way, but we got someone after 30min (firstly under the tree, then better located on the street).rating: 5/5, wait: 30 min

Right after the Total gas station. I had a Lyon sign and stood under that pine tree that has a big rock under it so I would be seen from traffic coming from both the industrial area and the motorway service station. People refuel here to go towards Lyon. Easy peasy, maybe a bit lucky but it's always about luck.rating: 5/5, wait: 10 min 🪧, ride: 90 km ←

Do NOT stop there hoping for a ride to Lyon, the highway splits at the same level so traffic goes elsewhere. If stranded there, a sign saying "Vénissieux" or "Villeurbane" would help. Someone took me to a bus stop there and I could reach Lyon eventually but it was a mistake to stop there, almost no traffic. If you are coming from Chambéry and your driver doesn't go inside Lyon, stopping at "Relais l'Isle d'Abeau Nord" 20km before is best.

Very strange place indeed when trying to go south. Took me around 4 frustrating hours in 40°C to get away from here. I tried asking at the gas station, asking the truck drivers and thumbing at the exit. The last one mentioned worked in the end.I think the reason why this is such a strange place, apart from the fact that the gas station serves both directions, is that this highway is not the most used one when going south. Notice that when you put into the GPS a route let's say from Strasbourg to Lyon, it prefers the highway A6, that runs parallel on the west to this one. However, at the exit from A36 close to Dole it is signed that this highway leads to Lyon. Which I believe makes all the drivers that don't use GPS take this highway. Which was in the end my experience. I encountered lots of older local drivers unwilling to take hitchhikers, or families that were fully packed.

I was coming from Montpellier to Lyon and had the choice to be dropped here or at the big peage a few km towards Lyon. My destination was Germany. After 15min a german couple took me in their camper van! Maybe I was lucky but from what I see there are enough cars, toilets, possibilities for food so I would prefer this over the peage anytime again! You can ask german cars (or swiss etc) depending on your needs.
