Lot of traffic, many people go to Paris. Tried to get a ride to Reims, but settled for one to Orléans instead.

The roads in this area was recently completely changed. This roundabout was really good for us to go towards A10 (Orléans, Chartres, Nantes, Bordeaux, Toulouse,...).

80% of cars were going to Evry, you don't want them, you need to reach the gas station Limours-Janvry on the A10 but there's usually some people going there (it's a 10 min ride) from the gas station just go and talk to people to reach further.

I always go there to leave Paris. It's around 1h15 by public transport from Paris center but you're guaranteed to start the trip easily after.

We got lucky this time and found someone directly to Tours

After a bit without sign, we decided to show "Orléans" and got picked up in 5min. There is some place to stop, and people can see you when waiting at the traffic light. Huge glow of cars going to A1 / N20 to the south.

Good spot if you want to go to the east (Tours, Bourges, Orléans...). Here the highway splits in two directions (Paris and Tours) and you can easily switch from the Paris péage to the Tours péage.

We found a car in 3 minutes to Orléans even though there were two of us with tons of luggage. We were in the middle of the toll booth, standing on a concrete block and holding up our sign.

arriving from nantes, we get off here from a car going to orléans because our aim was lyon and chambéry. it was lunch time and there were quite many people going in all possible directions (nantes, orléans, poitiers, bourges). we got a ride direct to chambéry (wouhou) after about 1h, but other people had offered us a ride in other directions before.

The Gendarmerie (kind of a police) brought me there. I first was sad because there were very few cars. But soon a car stopped with nice people in it. They brought me to Orléans !

Around 30 minutes wait on a Wednesday evening (4:30 pm).

The traffic jam of the peak hour probably made me wait longer than usual as it puts people in a bad mood.
On the other hand it allowed me to talk to drivers while they were waiting for the traffic lights to turn green.
And that's how I got a ride to Vierzon.

I had a big back pack with me and 2 card boards. One with a "next gas station symbol", and the other with Orléans.

Probably one of the best spots to go south of Paris, towards Orléans. It is often crowded, but I rarely had to wait.

Busy place. Easy to change sides thanks to the restaurant bridge. Also easy to reach from the Saran-Gidy street (one fence to climb).
11AM heading south: Possibilities for far rides up to Spain; sadly no-one going to the city or Orléans.
10AM heading north: 80% going to Paris, finally found someone going east towards Switzerland.

can be rough to get to Orléans, Paris is like a magnet,
France is especially crossed on the north-south axis..

In the beginning of september 2011, works/constructions on the bus line are over. You can now go to the bus stop "La Vache". To go to the toll ("péage" in french), I had to go quite easily over a wall (you will see broken wire fences).
No problem to hitchhike at this place which is good.

In 10 min, I got a ride to the next "péage" just before Montauban: that was a mistake because toll workers forbid me to hichhike there. Therefore, I advise you to get a lift directly to the peage in the north of Montauban because it is only a tickets toll so there is not any worker. The best way is to catch a car going further in the North (Limoges, Châteauroux, Orléans, Paris)
