Expected to wait shorter, i think it was bad luck, but got a ride to Toulouse. We waited 50 meters up the stopspot and got many reactions from people going not out direction. I think its the best spot to get to toulouse direction

I waited at the ticket machine with a sign "Toulouse" and got a ride to Bordeaux. Perfect!

Generally a lot of traffic and easy to ask cars by the petrol station or the restaurant. Started asking people at 5.30pm and only got a ride at 9.30pm.
Maybe we were not lucky because the highway to Toulouse was closed off because of the wildfires.
Eventually this very sweet couple took us and actually gave us a ride to the doorstep of our friend's house, so that was amazing!

Just by the entrance to the toll station. I had a sign for Toulouse.
Spot is ideal (shade possible) and I didn’t bother to start asking people directly.
I got a ride directly to a Toulouse metro station where I could continue.

On a finalement renoncĂ© Ă  partir.

We were 3 people so It didnt help but we searched a ride in direction of Toulouse, while everybody was going to bordeaux. Still a good spot if you search for going west.

Does anybody actually enjoy hitching from a peage? I know I certainly don't! As a hitchhiker I prefer sticking to small country roads, I find it a lot more relaxed. Most importantly, though, it doesn't sit in a legal grey area like peages do.

The “service station” consists of a tap and a toilet, no thrills here, so no cars stop. This means that you're going to be hitching straight from the gate. Luckily, in the Toulouse direction it's possible to stand just behind the “no pedestrians” sign and still be seen from the road, which certainly feels a little bit better than dancing with traffic.

The man who dropped me off give me materials to make a sign, and I think that went a very long way towards helping me get a ride quickly. I wouldn't like to be thumbing here!

Big thanks to the three lovely Algerian workmen on their way home to Toulouse in their car who's back window is held shut with duct tape. Your kindness made my afternoon.

I was sat sipping a coffee after my first menu du jour since leaving Spain, glancing at maps and figuring out how best to get to Toulouse that day, where I intended to stay with a friend. Annoyingly for me, it seemed the best spot to leave Ax was the place I was dropped off at in the first place. Fantastic.
The cool Andorran air was well gone at this point, especially since lunch had carried me into the hottest part of the day, so the walk to the spot felt like a real slog.

Upon arrival, a second thing hit me, this spot is great
for the other direction! Going north you have a big open car park with more than enough space to pull over. On the south side
a grassy ditch. Oh well, we roll with it!

This is a spot where a sign would be beneficial, much to my lack of forward planning. I wanted to make the most of the steady stream of traffic leaving Andorra, but the problem is they're headed all over the country! (a quick glance at the number plates will show you the true appeal of cheap cigarettes and alcohol.)

Eventually, I was picked up by a very nice man in a very nice car with air conditioning that felt like heaven. He wasn't going straight to Toulouse, but to Béziers instead, meaning he would turn off of the motorway before any service stations came up. Much to my chagrin, I agreed to be dropped off at the Peage just past Pamiers. He was kind enough to give me a marker and some cardboard, though, to make leaving Pamiers just that little bit easier; for which I am incredibly grateful!

Just stood at the exit with a Bayonne sign and soon an RV stopped and took me there.

Took a train from Toulouse to Longages Noé to get here and just walked for a bit.

I moved from the spot near the roundabout to the dashed lines in the middle of the road going west and the road going east. It felt like a dodgy place to stand but there was plenty of space for people to stop if they were willing to park illegally. Someone stopped soon - two musicians used to hitchhiking. They agreed it was the only place to hitch from that bit of road.

Would recommend going to another place to leave Toulouse!
