Not bad. Got picked up by two charming German students going to Heidelberg. (1 M, 1 F)

Asking around should work, in my case I was pretty unlucky with the weather and full cars. Eventually decided to sign at the on-ramp and was got a ride to Heidelberg within five minutes.

Gonna go against consensus here. Almost all cars are local traffic and the ones that aren’t are usually going to Offenburg. I waited close to three hours with my sign saying Karlsruhe-Heidelberg before a French guy I talked to at the station took me to the autobahn.

A guy and a girl on a Thursday afternoon without a sign. After getting there by bus & train and walking about 25min, we stood at the first exit, where you get all the cars going both to the highway or to the petrol station. A lot of cars passed by, but we shortly got a ride to Heidelberg. Seems to be a good spot to go north.

Not busy in the night, the first driver we asked took us to autohof next to the Heidelberg (probably we were lucky)

Driver went to Darmstadt. I got out at Heidelberg.

Seems like a great spot. It's a gas station with a lot of traffic towards the nearby A8. We (two guys) were picked up within about 5 minutes, to our final destination in Heidelberg.

We were 2 persons hitchhiking together. At 4:45 pm when there was a lot of traffic. Didn't have to wait long at all - a lot of were reacting to us (1 lady said sorry for not taking us because she lives in Heidelberg).

Was maybe there at bad times. 7-9PM had no luck so ended up camping in field nearby. Next morning took a couple hours but got a lift to Heidelberg after talking to people at restaurant rather than petrol station.

Got a direct ride to Nurnberg after waiting 30 minutes or so. Usually my go to stop, easy to go south to Freiburg or north to Heidelberg.

Thumbing at the exit with a sign "Heidelberg" i got a ride in 10 min.

Its a good place for asking drivers directly, not so good if you prefer just hitchhike on the end of the station cause there is not much place to stop there and cars come from more directions. Waited quite long (but refused short rides), then got a lift to Heidelberg.

Gut aus Saarbrücken heraus zu erreichen aber wenig Verkehr hält an dieser Tanke (nur noch Tanke, Imbiss ist geschlossen). Hatte Glück und hab Leute aus meiner Heimat getroffen nach ca, 45 Minuten Richtung Heidelberg. Good to reach from Saarbrücken but not many traffic. There ist just a petrol station (no more Bistro). I had luck and meet people from my home area after round 45 minutes in Direction Heidelberg.

This place was very good. I came here with the last people that pickes me up. To continue my journey to Frankfurt I asked the people directly, the first try was successful and two guys from Heidelberg took me with to Frankfurt Airport.

Got a lift to Heidelberg in 15 minutes. Fun to walk to this station through the Forest too!

Found a ride to Nürnberg from here, most people went to Würzberg or Heidelberg though
