Gas stations are always good spots, and this one is also a BlaBlaCar spot ! A lot of traffic even at midday, in the direction of Karlsruhe.

I wanted to go to Heidelberg. It was already dark and it was Saturday... A group of several polish truck drivers were sleeping there until Monday, going back to Poland. Asked around for about 1.5 hours, almost no traffic, so I decided to settle for a ride to Karlsruhe and catching a train to Heidelberg. The spot should be good, but my timing and luck were bad.

Got a ride with the second car I asked. Not a lot of cars at around 10:00 in the morning on a friday. Lots of polish car signs and trucks, the people I asked were heading towards Karlsruhe and Ulm.

Wanted to go east to Karlsruhe and waited for 2 hours without luck. Once we changed our sign homburg we got a ride in less than 10 minutes.

I was holding a sign saying "Augusburg/Karlsruhe" and got a ride within 20mins. Two gas stations and lots of niche where rides can pull over. High traffic too.

Gonna go against consensus here. Almost all cars are local traffic and the ones that aren’t are usually going to Offenburg. I waited close to three hours with my sign saying Karlsruhe-Heidelberg before a French guy I talked to at the station took me to the autobahn.

Its alright, it is possible for cars to stop, but not much traffic, direction Karlsruhe

I was thumbing at the end of the service station. 10 minutes later I got a lift to Karlsruhe. Perfect.

Not the best spot, mostly locals/Karlsruhe.

It's an OK spot if you are prepared to wait. Lots of cars passing through but a lot of local traffic. If you are hitchhiking southwards, I'd entirely avoid going into central Karlsruhe in the first place. Stay on the autobahn, e.g. Bruchsal West.

Lots of cars going through, but you mostly get ignored. Be prepared to wait. I first tried unsuccessfully with a card saying "Stuttgart", which is a bit too ambitious. Then I switched to a sign saying "A5 süd". Eventually I joined with two other hitchhikers, who were going to Paris. I was taken to Karlsruhe by a German man. It seems that waiting closer to the ramp is slightly more effective.

Very nice spot to get to Stuttgart/Karlsruhe

Waited for couple minutes thumbing at the exit ramp and soon got a ride going directly to Karlsruhe center.

Took us a while to find a car in the direction of Karlsruhe. Modt of the cars are going to offenburg

Took us 10 minutes to find a ride for Stuttgart BUT it was lucky (driver was coming back from a football game and stopped for a quick snack). The suggestion provided by another hitchhiker to ask for rides at the beginning of the petrol station was right. Again though, it was lucky. Karlsruhe doesn't seem like an easy place to hitchhike out of. Maybe it's better to wait for people to take you further like in Stuttgart, and staying on the A8 highway.

Technically illegal, I was behind the bollards with a sign to Karlsruhe in a deep rain with traffic jam making the speed there to be like max 20km/h, got a car with 5 minutes, but probably wiser to stay somewhere else( unless huge traffic jams would happen)

A lot of cars to the west. A car stopped for me right after I started to wait (?) with a sign saying Karlsruhe. I did not wait for a minute. I was lucky. They drove me to Karlsruhe. There is a good space for a car to stop for you.

Thumbing at the exit with a sign "Karlsruhe/Heidelberg" i got a ride in 10 min.

I met an absolute gentlemen offering to take me to north-west Italy across a two-day journey. While I was heading in a different direction, I did manage to head down to Karlsruhe with him. Great spot! Thanks J.!

On a sunday evening with not a lot of traffic. Got a ride quickly. Stood on the end of the station with a sign. And a guy in a brand new Mercedes took us past Karlsruhe to a gas station. Good for going north.
