Got a ride to Kassel. Don't take this road if you want to go to Osnabrück, as I was, Dortmund route is better I guess.

Mostly LKW, but managed to find a ride to Kassel for a Swedish guy going to Italy and then I found a Polish bus going towards Wroclaw.

Wanted to go South and made the mistake of taking a ride to the newly built A49. There are only small gas stations and I could not really find someone there. So if you want to go South. Take at least a ride to Hasselberg Ost or Reinhardshain Nord as there are no suitable service stations in the Kassel area.

Two guys hitchhiking south via the A7. We were picked up in less than 30 minutes. We got a lift to Kassel where we tried heading south. However, there is a lack of good spots for southbond travel in Kassel, so if you want to farther south we recommend hitching with someone who’s heading farther south than Kassel.

Good spot, we think. It seems to be a regular spot for hitchhikers heading south/southwest/west. We stood by the western on-ramp to the autobahn. Not a lot of traffic, but we also arrived late in the day. P.S. There’s a shower: think about using it you bum! We were two guys hitchhiking late in the afternoon/evening. We were signaling to go for Leipzig/Magdeburg. The hour was late in the day, so when a driver offered us a ride to Leipzig we accepted. In hindsight, we should probably have headed straight west towards Magdeburg/Hannover, since it was difficult to plan the route after stopping on the road to, or in, Leipzig. We were heading northwest after Leipzig towards Göttingen/Kassel via the A38. We did however get onto the A38 by sheer luck, the driver’s poor sense of direction and him being a bit creepy (esoteric guy that let us lie in the back of his van). Stay safe out there folks.

I've been stuck in Frankfurt and after trying different hitchhiking spot in the city I would say it's the best one. I stand at the traffic light with a cardboard "A5 Kassel". There is also a gravel space after the traffic lights were you can go and people can see you. If you want to go North, you're best chance is to be drop at Getterau gas station.

On a Monday in mid July around 8 pm there were hardly any cars and no one was going in the direction of Kassel. After 45 minutes of waiting I ended up accepting a ride to Frankfurt since I had gone the route from there before and it seemed more reliable. Bonus points for the cute kitten at the gas station though.

Good spot, even if not super busy. I got lucky and found someone to take me in the direction of Kassel fairly quickly. It was around 7:30 pm on a Monday in mid July.

Before we write a sign to Kassel, one old man stopped us, but it was more luck then advantage of the spot. And he took us only to some weirdly big gas station out of the city, where we stucked for cca 3 hours. But maybe, i think it is good spot, traffic is strong there to A70 and A7. But big problem is Schweinfurt at all, because locals do not stop, it is a deaf place. Hitchhikers in Wurzburg told us the same. So it is better to run away from Schweinfurt.

Run away. This spot sucks. We wanted to get to Fulda/Kassel or just Autobahn 7 but nobody stoped. People who definately went there, they were just pretending they dont and LKW drivers slept there, so they didnt give us ride. There are just locals, who are going there for Mc or just shopping. They were smiling but we felt just like bunnies. Dont let happen that you stuck there for hitchhiking. We went back to Schweinfurt with young german local, who was pitty about us.

We wanted to go to Basel, Freiburg, Frankfurt, Kassel from there. Got our first ride over the border very quickly.

After trying all day to get out of Frankfurt we spent the ~€5 to get to Friedrichsdorf and got to this spot at about 20:00. The 2nd person we asked gave us a ride to Kassel. In my experience the best way to get out of Frankfurt.

For Chemnitz and the center of Leipzig, this is a very good spot. But for Kassel/ Göttingen we waited 1,5 hours. It was the thrid car to head this destination in this period of time. The journey from Leipzig took us very long as well. Pack some food and a good load of time for this one.

Getting to Kassel is super easy. If you want to get south, ask to get dropped at a small parking along the highway, because there is no more service area before Kassel. And freaking everybody is going to Kassel

bus stop on B7 towards Kassel or Eschwege. Also works for going to Treffurt if you have a sign.

Good spot to get to Kassel as many cars head in that direction. For going further south, north or west it is more difficult. If you want to go west ask for a ride to the Exit Wilhelmshhe on the A44. That spot is basically still in Kassel. From there you can easily hitchhike to Dortmund and further.

A lot of People in the direction Nürnberg or Erfurt and it is also possible to get a hitch on the A38 to Kassel. I used this spot a lot of times and usual waiting time is 30 minutes. Normally I use a sign with 'A9'.
