Waited quite a long time with the intention of going to Stuttgart or Frankfurt. Got picked up eventually going to Ulm. Would say its an okay spot.

Solo woman with sign for Stuttgart picked up within minutes. 14:30 on a Friday, September 2025. Stood at exit of roundabout for Stuttgart.

Traffic going to Stuttgart + an easy space for them to stop.

Spent an hour here with a sign saying "Ulm/Stuttgart", first possible ride after 30 mins but didn't take up on the offer because there wasn't a good spot where they will eventually drop me off. 2nd ride wanted to drive me to Ulm directly but decided to join him to Sigmaringen due to it being closer to my end destination. Enough traffic to get a decent chance for a ride, a chance came every 30 mins.

High Traffic Area, T intersection. Was able to get two rides in the same location within 30 mins. Holding a sign "Ulm/Stuttgart." 1st ride had to return me to the spot because they got a work call forcing them back to Munich. 2nd ride drove me to a high way gas station closer to Ulm.

Best place imho to go to Stuttgart.

Picked up after 40 mins with a sign to Stuttgart

Lots of cars going through, but you mostly get ignored. Be prepared to wait. I first tried unsuccessfully with a card saying "Stuttgart", which is a bit too ambitious. Then I switched to a sign saying "A5 süd". Eventually I joined with two other hitchhikers, who were going to Paris. I was taken to Karlsruhe by a German man. It seems that waiting closer to the ramp is slightly more effective.

Monday morning, we were two. First we stood at the exit but the cars were going fast. We then went to the exit of the gas station itself where the cars slow down. A guy took us to Stuttgart. Not many cars, but this spot is worth the wait.

Again not that much traffic. A lot of people go to Stuttgart. I wanted to go further

Very nice spot to get to Stuttgart/Karlsruhe

Don’t do this spot unless you absolutely have too, it’s dangerous, especially if cars don’t merge on time. I got picked up by a guy who did a U-turn to get me since it’s was so bad, he dropped me off 10 minutes later at a gas station where I got a ride close to stuttgart.

Took this spot to head to stuttgart, I didn’t get far with it unfortunately but it’s a great spot and got picked up really quickly

Two guys on a Saturday around noon. Got quite lucky, we scored a ride all the way to about Stuttgart in next to no time. The place to be for southward travel on the A5!

Tried hitching from here into Stuttgart, was relatively busy, around 4pm. No one picked us up not a lot of traffic going East either. Wouldn't recommend we were just trying to save a walk.
