Perfect spot for getting to Athens - can ask at petrol station or just have a sign

Great location to hitch a ride out of Athens to the north in the direction of Lamia, Larissa, Thessaloniki. This street is directly going onto the highway, so every car that's passing you is going in the right direction. I was there during the week at 9AM in the morning. Because so many people go to work, there is a traffic jam on this on-ramp, so you can easily talk to drivers. The on-ramp also has a sidewalk, so it's completely safe to stand there. Most drivers don't go far but they can drop you on the highway at ha toll station and from there it's very easy to hitch a truck that's going all the way.

Solid spot as there are lots of tourists going back to Athens from their daytrips to Delphi. I ended up finding a ride with an Albanian living in Greece who was going to Athens to visit his mother in the hospital in Athens.

I spent the night at the camping in Lichnos, and wanted to get to the intersection with the bigger road in the morning. After 15 minutes of trying I found a ride with two tourists in their campervan. I think it's good to be here in the morning to catch the people leaving their accommodation in Parga/Lichnos as they can sometimes go far. I could've gotten close to Thessaloniki with them, but I wanted to go more in the direction of Patras / Athens and had them drop me off at the intersection with the main road.

Had a sign saying "Athens". I ended having all the way closer to Dallas from a former hitchhiker who used to travel all over the country. 'Dog', proudly republican and member of the band Black Ice. Offered me money at the end of the ride, even if I told him he didn't have to. Gave me his # as well, telling me I have a friend in Texas now, if I ever come back in the area. Got pulled over by the police during the ride, but for silly reasons. Nothing happened.

Almost got a fine for hitchhiking here. And people were mostly going towards Athens, I was trying to reach Trikala… DO NOT RECOMMEND Avoid this city

Stand behind the toll post on the side where the trucks go through. Also check if anyone at the rest stop goes to your desired location. The highway is easy to cross, so this stop works in direction Istanbul and Athens.

Tried the other spots at the other harbour for around 2 hours first, but wasn't successful as there were no ferries arriving there, but at this spot I waited right at the spot where the cars come off of the ferry and found some nice guys who took me all the way to Athens (which was pretty lucky I guess)

Waited 2 hours for a ride to ioannina. Only one car stopped that was going to athens. The police came and told me i had to go because they wanted to do checks on cars at the spot. They told me to move to an other place. I don't recommend the spot. I didn't find a ride

Very wide road, a lot of people go to Athens, especially on Sunday. Plenty of space for cars to stop. You're visible from the far. A greek took me to Kifisia in Athens, nice ride.

Spot is good if you need to go to Athens, there's a little parking area for cars to stop. I waited at a traffic light at this intersection. A Georgian worker stopped and brought me to Athens, Syntagma. Nice ride

Waited a minute to get a ride up the road parallel the A1 near Afidnes. Took quite some time to get here from Athens by public transport, but worth the hassle.

It's a great stop to rest and catch your breath, nice man owns this place, I could charge all my devices, drink water and also he offered me free food! Hitchhiking there was quite difficult, especially in the evening. Minimum traffic, no one stopped, even though there's a lot of place to stop. After waiting for two hours I decided to walk down the road(I planned to walk 8 hours to Meteora), but thankfully when I was hitchhiking down the road, crazy in a good sense of words guy picked me up and he was heading to Athens, but I still asked him to drop me at Meteora. He bought me coffee, some food and gave me 10 euros. Got lucky

Great spot to get to athens, a trucker took me to volos but they went on to Athens.

Decent spot with a fair amount of traffic. Picked up by a friendly old school trucker called Hank who took us all the way to Athens, Al! One guy one girl

We got taken by a Romanian family after 1h30 waiting, directly to Athens! We were waiting a bit after the toll station so there was space for them to stop 👍 It's a bit adventurous to get to the toll station taking the bus 80 and then walking on a dusty road but really doable👍

Busy road but cars are going slowly since the roundabout. We’ve been told by the Volos local it is the best place for south Lamia/Athens direction. Even tried a place 700m down the road where traffic lights are. Had a sign with A1 highway. We’ve got even good reactions but no one took us. Had to took a train.

One of the best spot to go to Thessaloniki from Athens. Got a ride in 15minutes but it is illegal to hitchhike there
