Not much traffic while I was there (Saturday) but best spot in the area for going south. Got a ride to Budapest

Long waiting time mostly because of small traffic but after some time and rejecting one 30 km offer I got ride to petrol station north of Budapest

We got lucky — when we got out of the previous truck that had taken us to the border so we could cross it on foot, a driver in the queue for passport control (together with the cars) asked us if we were hitchhiking and offered us a ride. He was heading to Budapest, which was exactly on our way. I think it’ll be easy to hitch a ride after the border, because, like everywhere else, drivers might be a bit hesitant before the border. Although this guy did pick us up and take us all the way to passport control.

Mostly locals but somehow spot worked for us, the only people with hungarian number plates took us to Budapest airport

We waited about 1.5h and then got a ride close the the Serbian border. Probably the best spot to get out of Budapest in direction of Serbia. Imo its better to stand at the entrance of the station than at the exit.

There was not a lot of traffic and most of it was going towards budapest but found one truck going pas kosice so he was my savoiur and took me exactly in my direction. But shoudl eventually work if you are going north from here. Going budapest shoudl be very easy.

Went there to catch the morning work traffic and trucks. Was trying to go in Romania direction but as most of the cars are going towards Budapest we just decided to go to the next gas station towars there and cross the highway. It worked pretty well as we founf a ride towards debrecen pretty easy.

Brilliant spot, waited about 10 min 1 male 1 female, took the train from Budapest, was definitely worth it!

The bus stop is just after the roundabout so it's not that good to thumb but just a few meters further is another area where cars can stop.Waitet about 30min for a ride towards Budapest. We realised later that the driver wasn't going via the highway but on the road 5 which still worked out fine as after about 40km comes a spot from where it's only 5km to get to a service area on the highway to Budapest.

Probably the best spot in all of Kosice. All the traffic is funneled through this single lane road and people are driving slowly. Lots of traffic as well. My piece of advice, DO NOT ACCEPT A RIDE TO THE BORDER. Multiple people will stop and offer you a ride there. I accepted one and was stuck hitchhiking around there for an entire day. There is no traffic around the border town or the rest stops around there. I even tried hitchhiking on the highway and it didn’t work. I eventually had to get a ride back to Kosice by night time, and camped in the fields behind the small town. I was able to charge my batteries in the hotel near this spot, they were super nice. Next morning, I hitchhiked and waited around an hour for then a family offering to take me halfway to Budapest since they were going to Hungary for a little day trip vacay. So yeah moral of the story is just be patient. The locals and everyone around there is super nice and you’ll eventually get picked up. Make sure that you choose a decent rest stop or city as your drop-off point because beginning part of Hungary is pretty rural. Thanks for reading my ted talk and happy hitchhiking y’all :D

Might be the best spot you can get. Not a lot of people going to the gas station but you can stand near the safety lane near entryway of the road and capture the attention of the drivers on the highway. Idk if it’s that effective though since people there are driving relatively fast. I tried for an hour and a half then tried the McDs. I met a fellow hitchhiker there by coincidence and we were just talkin and chillin. He even bought me a cheeseburger. We ended up going back to the gas station and both hitchhiked together (I wanting to go to Balton and he wanted to go to Bratislava). After 20 minutes or so a lady who works in Budapest and lives in Balton offered to take me and host me for a night. Honestly one of the best rides in my life so far. Long story short maybe best to hitchhike during rush hour as it worked for me lol. But just be patient and make sure to have a big, big sign. If you need cardboard ask the gas station, they gave us some.

Lot's of Hungarian cars coming to Budapest but nearly none to Debrecen. No Romanian truck wanted to give me a ride neither. If you go to Budapest, it's a good place though.

Not too much traffic and lots of full cars. Got lucky in the end with a ride that almost couldn't fit us. With patience you can get a ride all the way to Budapest or beyond even.

Good place to get dropped off here and hitchhiked. Asking ppl may work here but I tried and all their cars were full or I was brushed off. I waited by the exit and after like 20-30 min some dude offered me a ride straight to Budapest. Good spot as a midway point to Budapest.

trying to get to Budapest with a sign, no luck at all. one person offered a ride to Breclav. don’t recommend

1 man 1 woman. Great spot to head south from Budapest. We got a ride quickly to Szeged. The woman even came to us because she saw us asking around

Great spot to get a ride to Budapest. A lot of German and Austrian cars that are open to take hitchhikers

Waited for almost two hours. Eventually a taxi driver took us to the airport for free where we instantly got a ride. I don’t recommend this spot even though there are some people going to Budapest or Bratislava

Great spot for Zagreb but nobody goes towards budapest. We had to wait 2 hours for a guy to take us to a better spot
