so you want to stand behind the sign for enfield and kilcock as opposed to dublin. people take this road to dublin to avoid the tolls on the m4. drivers are a lot more likely to pick you and you meet nicer people on the R148 than trying to hitch onto the motorway.

not a whole lot of space to pull over for drivers but its ireland so they will pull over anyway. direction dublin.

its a bit far to walk to from town but if you get dropped here its a great spot. theres space back towards the other roundabout for trucks to pull in, the ones marked Connolly and Lynn drive to Donegal from Dublin and often break here. signed for carrick.

to get out of dublin hitch from the next intersection or the one after, this one has too much local traffic. signed for kilcock

Most people on the Rosslare ferry heading west or south, but def possible to find northbound. Overnight ferry quite empty but on the afternoon one straight to Dublin should be doable

i went to Emo but you could prolly also sign for motorway or Dublin Kildare Naas from here, there's a speedbump so everyone's going v slow, loads of drive ins to pull into, portlaoise seems to love roundabouts as much as me so there's many good spots along this road

this spot isnt as good as asking around the rest stop but after 10 minutes signing for dublin a lovely woman from belfast brought me to saggart so this spot works too in a pinch. i wouldnt sign from the onslip though it looks too sketchy to walk to. signed for dublin

small update to this which is that while i was asking for lifts to dublin from here i was kicked out by the station manager. ive hitched from here before 3 or 4 times with no problem from staff, so i reckon its still worth asking around the pumps for lifts etc, just be nice and polite and dont give customers an excuse to complain.

it isnt sign posted but i asked a local and he said this is the road people would be using to get to ennis from milltown. during festival season especially i reckon you could chance writing limerick or even dublin on a sign and thumb the whole way home, i got very lucky immediately with a lift to port laois while i signed for ennis.

many people going this way, maybe was ambitious to sign for dublin but got a ride all the way, little way into a field gives enough space for cars to pick you up, visibility is ok

got a lift to a better spot but at least in the morning nobody's leaving dublin through here rlly, might be better in evening; not lots of space to pull over either tbh

Direction Galway, Cavan or Dublin. Mostly westbound traffic but I signed for Dublin and got picked up quickly enough even on a wet day.

its a grand spot direction dublin, loads of room to pull in after the roundabout but i was unlucky waiting a while. careful where you stand there isnt an awful lot of room.

signed for dublin and got lucky with a lift quickly. seems like a good spot at first because drivers can see you from across the crossroads but cars are driving too fast here from the dual carriage way to slow safely, and cars turning from the perpendicular roads are mostly locals. try after the roundabout on the motorway or at the traffic lights before the clinic to the south.

Not the best place in terms of having space for cars to stop, but the kind Irish people never disappoint. For direction A5 (Strabane, Omagh, Dublin)

2ppl, wednesday afternoon. We came from Dundalk, wanting to get a ride towards Limerick. Our strategy was to find a ride from someone going past Dublin to Red Cow (a Luas stop, on the west side of Dublin), take the Luas and then continue from there hitchhiking west to Limerick.
The strategy worked quite well, as we found that person really soon. We asked around at the entrance of the station.
