if youre leaving tuam (direction galway) from this roundabout then hitch on the N83 exit instead of the motorway entrance. cars are more likely to stop for you along this road than the motorway, and its generally safer and youre more likely to get a lift quicker. i got a ride here in two minutes in the middle of november even though it was almost dark.

walked north west along the ennis road with my thumb out and a sign for Galway. i got a lift just before the roundabout all the way to Tuam. most people driving to galway or ennis will leave limerick along this road and theres plenty of space along this road for cars to pull over with the bike lane and cars are going slow.

good spot for getting out of galway south bound. take bus 404 to oranmore north and walk back a bit to the roundabout. better for rides to Ennis or limerick than trying to hitch on the motorway by the clinic. lots of traffic on weekday morning

2ppl, Sunday afternoon. Initially wanted to go to Killarney, stood with a KERRY sign (county Kerry). But we got the ride to Galway instead, and we didn't regret. Good spot for several directions. Cars can go quite fast already, so having a big sign is a good idea.

Not very busy. Waited with "Galway" sign and got a ride to Oranmore.

pretty much every car going direct to galway uses this road - also good for rides to ballinrobe, headford etc.

yup west galway loads of space, fair amount of traffic going into galway

west galway is filled with angels. only good rides going out connemara. got a lift even late in the day directly where we wanted to go.

good for rides to athlone, got lucky w a lift to galway but lots of south going local drivers. tried thumbing first but got a lift soon after we made a sign for athlone

drivers going to galway rarely pull into kinnegad rest stop so dont bother asking there or at this roundabout for lifts - if u end up here otw to galway better to find a ride on the m4 to mullingar or edgeworthstown and then go to athlone, see more of the nice countryside and usually fast getting a ride to galway from athlone

if trying to get a ride to galway probably better to start closer to m50, near liffey valley sc, but for what this spot is worth good visibility and room to pull over etc, just not a lot of cars going long distance.

hitched from here a good few times, never waiting more than 20 minutes for a ride to Galway or Clare. can ask for rides from the rest stop but can easily just thumb a ride from the on slip.

space to pull over & good traffic on a saturday evening in summer! good for traffic into roscommon town and from there easy hitch to galway or tuam, i got lucky with a hitch straight to lough rae though

Easy to hitch to Clifden. Maybe a little bit harder for the way to Galway but lots of space for traffic to stop. Plenty of traffic as well for a rural area.

A bit long to go there from the city center. But I really think this is the best place to Galway.

Good spot to reach Clifden and Galway. It's a good idea to wait tourists getting out from Inishbofin's ferry, more chances to get a lift ! Waiting time : 20min

Just before the bus stop, good way to catch cars from the exit. To the west (Galway, Athlone, Longford, Westport ...) The motorway junction was super busy one afternoon so I decided to walk up to here. Got a lift all the way to Galway pretty quickly! No hard shoulder, but I stood in front of a wide entrance...

Got a ride all the way to Galway from here! Visibility is not great as there is a hill in the way, but cars are going slowly as they turn left from the R344 (most cars will go in the Galway direction).
