I took the tram T1 to the airport and walked there. Many people are going to Prato. After asking around for more or less 20 minutes I got a ride to Bologna

Arrived by ferry (which i paid for) in Ancona. I stood near the exit for cars with my prepared sign, and someone stopped in less than 10 minutes and took me to an Autogrill in Bologna.

I was asking almost all people entering autogrill bar, I had a "Genova" sign with me. Most people were heading east (Piacenza, Venezia, Bologna) while the others (some of them going south) were simply refusing to take me. Finally, after more than two hours, I asked sb to take me to the Alessandria's train station (the first person I asked, agreed) and I continued by train.
If you go east, the place seems to be very good.

very bad spot, the highway sign is placed so that all the good spots for hitchhiking are blocked off and you will be risking a fine if you pass it, also be careful, it turns out there are 2 signs marking the start of the highway, where one of them is just for show i guess cuz we got police kicking us out behind the first one, which we didnt notice at first. If you are heading towards Firenze it should be okay since we got like 5 cars stopping, but noone is heading towards Bologna. If u end up here going towards Bologna, I recommend making a sign and standing at the road marked by the map, where most cars pass through and try finding a place with the most space at this road, its not ideal, but its better than nothing.

good spot towards the entrance to the highway, but be careful cars are mostly heading towards Firenze and its hard to stop at the entrance, so if ur heading towards Bologna id rather take the non-highway route and go city by city.

Good spot towards the highway, but I would not recommend going towards the highway if you are heading towards Bologna, since there is not much place to stop for cars before the entrance to the highway and in front of the gate it is illegal, we waited there around 4 hours, so id only hitchhike towards the highway if ur heading towards Firenze, otherwise try taking the non-highway route to Bologna.

We started at Rimini Nord toll booth and easily got a ride here. It was very hot in the morning so we didn't want to wait. After 10 minutes a camper driver saw us waving from afar and came back to pick us up. He took us to Samoggia a little town after Bologna. One girl one boy.

Got lucky that some workers were opening the gate as soon as I got to the station. Not sure if access is possible otherwise. No sign, asking people directly. Most foreigners were down but usually had full cars, a couple of Italians on their way to Vicenza dropped me off in Bologna.

Was looking for a ride south along the Adriatic, we found one before we even got to the spot we wanted to hitch from by walking along the SS64 with our thumbs out. Bologna is great!

We tried to get a ride either to Firenze or Bologna. We stayed in this spot on a monday, from 7:30 until 8:30, and then changed to 43.3091301, 11.3147234. After another hour, we gave up and were going to take a bus so we started walking to Nazario Sauro. Luckily a guy was going to Bologna and stoped when he saw us walking. Both the spots we were at seemed good, since there was space to stop, was close enough to the highway and there was a lot of traffic at the time. Maybe it works for smaller distances

Walk on the side of the highway (safe) all the way to the border (10min). Stand between the two border control post. I ask the Sloven border control and they said they are okay for me hitchhiking, I asked the italians and they said no. So i stood in SLovenia aha. It's the best spot since people slow down to 30 and you catch all the trafic, however, with a huge sign bologna venice, it took me 2hrs to get picked

Pros - well equipped Decathlon beside, large roundabout to wait, good spot to drop off while arriving from Modena, 1,50€ train by Casalecchio Palasport station or bus from Ceretolo Vivaldi (Riale is 2,20)
Cons - this spot takes you into the main road to Bologna and potentially into the highway but you should be sure whether driver goes north, east or south so that you don't get stuck on the highway.

Got a ride to Bologna after 30 minutes of smiles.
Invest 1,50€ by Roger app to get bus 9 from Rimini station to San Vito or train to Santarcangelo and walk from the last stop. Stand before the "no autostop". A young guy saw his wanderer friend in me and picked me up. Traffic is chilled but could be busy in rush hours.

An extremely busy Autogrill! So many German cars going both North and South. For some reason though quite difficult to get to Bologna from here and close to IMPOSSIBLE to go East towards Rimini.
You can ask people directly where they're going or stand with a sign at the exit of the gas station (less effective).
According to my calculations the peak traffic was reached at 1 pm with an average of 60 cars passing in the Southern direction and 40 in the Northern (yes I spent the whole day here, it was this comfy + nice view).
The grocery shops on both sides of the road are so busy you can easily get away with taking any food/drinks and going upstairs with it to the restaurant (Didn't want to risk too much and only got 1 pack of chocolates 4 euro worth).
Tablediving is indeed extraordinary here! Mostly due to presence of many wasteful Americans XD
Can't vote for the free showers though, doubt it's still a thing.
Not sure if you can camp nearby this place but there are some pretty thick trees at the boot of the hill (some fences have to be jumped over to get there).

I think is a good place to go South or to Trieste, we found a ride directly to Bologna that was our destination. Medium traffic but not a lot

Great spot if you want to get to Venice or in direction of Slovakia/Austria. Likewise for Milan, Trident.
Incredibly bad spot if you want to get to Bologna and further - we had to spend the night. In terms of sleeping: I recommend going through a gate and turning left, there’s some bush - we set up a tent and spent a night there without any problem, and we used the toilet at the gas station during the morning. Station’s staff was nice and they didn’t cause any problem.
But if you’re going to Bologna etc, I recommend catching any hike in direction of Milano / Padua and getting into the next autogrill (gas station) between Venice and Padua - Ristop |Arino Ovest. Amazing spot to catch a long ride and it’s not that far!

Another french hitchhiker was there, he was going north and me toward bologna. I was asking drivers with my best italian "lei parla inglese? no? ho, vado verso alessandria e mi serve un passagio per favor." I had a lot of friendly reaction and many people were not going there, eventually, a french dude drove me to an autogrill close to alessandria. Nice
