It's a petrol station inside the highway, it calls "Cantagallo". You can reach it from the city: take the bus 89 from "piazza malpighi" and stop in "S Biagio Micca". There is a little road under the bridge, follow it. It takes around 30 minutes to arrive inside from the city. You can go in both directions: to North it's good to go to Padova, Piacenza or enter in Bolonia; to south it's good to go to Florence.―Anonymous, February 2015

from Florence city center, try to catch a bus direction Prato! it stops 20m from the petrol station, must be way cheaper than the bus to the airport (6€!!!)―Fra.mae, May 2013

Don't fully agree to what above me said. This only applies when you don't have a lot of luggage as the traffic light is only red for about 25 seconds (which isn't a lot). Then for Florence cars can't pull over to the right very well as they gotta go straight in general.
I still got away after about 90 minutes, but it was quite dangerous.

Good place to go towards north (Milano) or south (Florence) on the A1. IMPORTANT: If you press the button of the pedestrian-crossing light right at the intersection, ALL cars for your direction will IMMEDIATELY stop in front of you. That will help you a lot.To get to the place you can probably get a bus to the intersection of Emilia Ponente / Viale Sandro Pertini.

I used this spot to go east towards Pisa, Florence, etc. Get here by taking the 17 bus and getting off at EUROPA 11/AUTOSTRADA. There's a gas station, but since it was after 7pm and only the 24 hr self service was open I just stood on the ramp going up with a sign for E80 Est...someone stopped after 30 minutes only going to Repallo, but they brought me to the first service station. Probably it would be easier in day time, but since I am only one girl no one was scared of me.―Anonymous, December 2011

Florence is largely a retirement town. Very difficult to catch a ride here. Took us three hours to get out. Some decent spots along the 101 in town though.―Anonymous, June 2011

Going North - sign said "FLORENCE"Got a ride within 30 minutes. Plenty of space on the bridge for a car to stop on the right shoulder. Just dance on the railing while you wait.

you can reach this gas station from florence center by taking bus for the aeroporto. from here, you can take any ride that is entering the autostrada, and if they are not going your direction they can leave you at the first service area on the autostrada, from which it is probably more convenient to hitch.rating: 3/5
