Okay place, not much time for cars to decide, but it works, we used a sign for Florence, there is a trash can at the parking where we found cardboard so id recommend making a sign, since right away the first car we showed the sign to stoped😆

Still works in 2025! When your coming from the fields there is a spot on the left side of the fence where can jump over really easily because of a small breakage. There are only a few cars going to the gas station but the second person we approached gave us a lift directly to the city center in Florence.

Not sure what was wrong with this place, probably bad luck. Station is well placed people stops there but most of them do not want to give us a ride. Some folks was going to Florence. We ware trying to get a hike in Rome direction it was very problematic We catch it after 7h of waiting

I hitched from here towards Florence on a Sunday, and there was not a lot of traffic. I waited 2.5hrs for ride! But Im sure it is easier on weekdays.

It's a petrol station inside the highway, it calls "Cantagallo". You can reach it from the city: take the bus 89 from "piazza malpighi" and stop in "S Biagio Micca". There is a little road under the bridge, follow it. It takes around 30 minutes to arrive inside from the city. You can go in both directions: to North it's good to go to Padova, Piacenza or enter in Bolonia; to south it's good to go to Florence.

from Florence city center, try to catch a bus direction Prato! it stops 20m from the petrol station, must be way cheaper than the bus to the airport (6€!!!)

Took by 2 franziskan monks at the sunset, the toll is quiet good both going to viareggio/pisa than prato/florence (my direction)

Don't fully agree to what above me said. This only applies when you don't have a lot of luggage as the traffic light is only red for about 25 seconds (which isn't a lot). Then for Florence cars can't pull over to the right very well as they gotta go straight in general. I still got away after about 90 minutes, but it was quite dangerous.

Good place to go towards north (Milano) or south (Florence) on the A1. IMPORTANT: If you press the button of the pedestrian-crossing light right at the intersection, ALL cars for your direction will IMMEDIATELY stop in front of you. That will help you a lot. To get to the place you can probably get a bus to the intersection of Emilia Ponente / Viale Sandro Pertini.

I used this spot to go east towards Pisa, Florence, etc. Get here by taking the 17 bus and getting off at EUROPA 11/AUTOSTRADA. There's a gas station, but since it was after 7pm and only the 24 hr self service was open I just stood on the ramp going up with a sign for E80 Est...someone stopped after 30 minutes only going to Repallo, but they brought me to the first service station. Probably it would be easier in day time, but since I am only one girl no one was scared of me.

Florence is largely a retirement town. Very difficult to catch a ride here. Took us three hours to get out. Some decent spots along the 101 in town though.
