Lot of locals going on the highway. Sign Venezia. Two guys. Hitching before the pay toll directly in front of the sing “no autostop”. Kinda hard for some poeple to even spot you so wear something bright or use a bigger sign. After 30 minutes local lady with a dog took us to Latisana.rating: 4/5, wait: 30 min 🪧, ride: 35 km ↙

A pretty nice restaurant + gas station that's perfect if you're going in the Eastern direction (Verona, Padova, Venezia, Udine and also Slovenia). Way harder to find anyone who would be going North to Trento. Also I found it quite tricky to get to Modena from here. I waited for a couple of hours and got tired after asking more than 100 different cars so I decied to go set up my hammock behind the gas station, oh how naive I was. There's NOTHING behind the gas station. Just some persimmon plantation, private property all over and a road leading to a ghost town. Though there is a nice restaurant 500 m away from the station (I asked for some food but they refused to give me any. Then the most beautiful waitress offered to buy me a pizza with her money but I gently refused <3) and a big truck parking where I made friends with some Slavic drivers and they gave me their food too. After some time I lowered my demands and ened up going just below Mantova.

I asked my ride to leave me here on my way from Milan to Brescia since I didn't want to enter Bergamo. I was surprised to see that many cars were passing through this gas station even on a Sunday night.Eventually got picked up all the way to Brescia relatively quickly.
P.S. On this Autogrill I came upon a couple of foreign backpackers that were headed to Venezia. They were standing with a sign on the entrance to the gas station, which didn't bring them much success since I found actually asking the drivers in simple Italian way more profitable.

A good spot, many cars, people can stop, but sign is indeed necessary! I got a ride after 20 minutes in direction of Venezia to the last Area di Servizio before Verona―Anonymous, May 2015

Not as good but probably safer spot than the nearby toll gate. When I arrived, a couple just got picked up to Venezia. I got a lift to Brescia after an hour or so. Kind staff in the restaurant under the office building.―Anonymous, August 2013

If you have a sign "Venezia" or "A23", everybody shows they go to Udine. If you have a sign "Udine", nobody stops.―Prochy, July 2013

I tried to hitchhike from this petrol station towards sLOVEnia / Austria but most of the drivers that stopped here were going no longer than 10 km. This is because after they built the new highway (part of A4) a bit north from Venezia Mestre, near Martellago, just to avoid traffic congestions, now all the drivers going long range between Milan / Bologna and sLOVEnia / Austria avoid this city ring; result: this is now a dead spot. Plus, the employees at this gas station revealed very unfriendly to me while I walked around the fuel pumps to ask the drivers for rides, emphasizing that I should go away from the fuel pumps, closer to the station's exit, and stop asking the drivers threatening me that otherwise they would call the police. I tried here for about 2h without any result (with exception of the swear words from the employees - I understood them because I speak Italian and Venice is my hometown) and then I decided to go back to the town and take the train.―Anonymous, May 2012

I hitchhiked from this place heading West and this place is good only to go to Monfalcone or Gorizia; if you want to go to Venezia from here then you will waste your time. Because it's possible to get rides only until Monfalcone or Gorizia but not any further, my rating for this place is between Average and Bad.―Longhaul, May 2012

I was dropped here (coming from Genova), and found this is NOT a good spot IF you want to go either into Milano or east towards Brescia/Verona/Venezia/etc.It is much better for destinations north or west of Milano (though there might be better service areas in other spots around the city).
To get into the city I got a ride to Rho and then another one into the city. Waiting time: about 2 hours.

I was hitchhiking to Venezia. After hour I started to catch cars to Klagenfurt, just to be on highway. Very friendly driver with a lot of time, going to Klagenfurt stoped. He told that station dir Klagen is bad and made 50km more just to leave me on the last gas station before Italy.―Sierak, June 2011

a very good relay on my way from MESTRE (VENEZIA) to MILANO in summer 2010. as not everyone from the MESTRE-area (from where i had departed) travels on long distance i had a stopover here for 30 minutes. there is lots and lots of traffic at this place - trucks, busses, cars. there is a petrol station, a rest area as well as a large restaurant. people speak english very well. there are oppportunities to get taken to PADOVA, VICENZA, VERONA, BRESCIA as well as MILANO during minutes. on my personal rating from 1 to 10 (1 = worst ever, don't go there!, 10 = perfect spot) i want to rate this place a "9 to 10" as it is safe, clean and people are very friendly.rating: 5/5

a good place to reach MESTRE (meaning VENEZIA) from UDINE (or just to relay). there is only few cars stopping at this petrol station, it took me 30 minutes to find a driver but everyone is very polite and helpfull. there is a shop as well as a little restaurant at this place. it is difficult to reach it from the normal road network as you have to walk through some gardens (north, along the autobahn), along a concrete noise-reduction-wall and over the off-ramp of the autobahn first (maybe there is an easier way too..?). on my personal scale from 1 to 10 (1 = poor, 10 = excellent) this spot deserves a "7 to 8" as it is very safe to stand at and everyone is very friendly.rating: 3/5

i tried to reach MESTRE meaning VENEZIA from here - but was not successful. there is many cars passing but no one took me during one hour. positive option: visit PALMANOVA instead of crying, a 400 year old fortified city with a name that can be translated as "the new palm". you can walk there from this place in 15 minutes. there is also supermarkets 2 minutes from this spot (can be seen on the satellite image). standing on the peage (maut-/toll-) station is not allowed, the empoyees will show you away immediately.rating: 3/5

a perfect place to hitchike westward in the direction of 'miramare castle', MONFALCONE as well as to VENEZIA or UDINE. there is an (often 'red') traffic light at this place and many-many cars that are passing by. as this spot lies in a commuter area (meaning most people passing drive from work home or drive to their workplaces) you should build a cardboard sign indicating your destination. i believe there are not too many persons willing to offer long distance trips from here. there is a large PAM-supermarket just 100 meters behind the railway overpass you can see from this place and another supermarket just 50 meters away.rating: 3/5
