indeed good spot for getting out of riga, but sign IS NECESSARY, I was standing with thumb and failed my route.

there is a bus stop a bit further, but this little turn also works. got a ride straight to riga.

didn't get a ride. monday, around 1pm. why? because road has two lanes, and the lane at which you stop cars, the right one, leads to a turn, when in reality you want to go straight(parnu, riga, etc). so I highly!!! recommend to move further sound, cross the roundabout and stand there. maybe I was extremely unlucky here, but logic tells me it was not my fault.

2026 spring update, amazing spot right now, road works have taken down the speeds, instead of two lanes there's only one very slow, due to the redirections of bus lines (no people besides you) and huge bus stop, its amazingly comfortable for cars to stop here, which means for the time the roadworks are in affect (most likely til the end of the year or til next spring) you will have a literal cheatcode to get out of Riga to Kekava, wait times 5-15 minutes expected right now, good luck and use it while you can!

Instead of being on highway or using very uncomfortable Circle K spot, just walk here from Adaži and here in this 50km/h area with huge safe shoulder for cars to stop and loads of traffic which most of is going to Riga, where you most likely would want to go, you'll get a car within 5-15 minutes to Riga, doable all year long any time

Towards Adaži, if u get lucky you can catch a car going to Riga too, quite some traffic, but speeds are high and not the greatest side of the road to stop a car, avoid at dark, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected

Not bad spot, go as close to lights as possible, the car going slow, there is place to stop. Almost every car go to Riga, people are very kind and speak English

Truck parking for lorries headed towards Estonia, would recommend coming here early in the morning from Riga and talk with the drivers, other times probably not so great

I went with a sign at just after 07:00 (still dark). Cars moving very fast (speed limit 70 kph), but after about 30 min a kind truck driver stopped and took me directly to Riga.

It was two of us (guy and girl). We waited for 30 minutes on a Wednesday morning and got a direct ride to Riga on a truck. Great spot, cars drive slowly amd there is a huge space for cars and trucks to stop.

Towards Biržai, ideal spot, loads of low speed cars all going to there the least, wait times of 5-10 minutes, you could even go Biržai-Germaniškis/Skaistkalne-Riga if you want to go around the via baltica

Indeed ideal spot for going basically anywhere towards Riga or major cities in Latvia, as well as even further south, wide enough bus stop to have a lorry stop, decent street lights for the darker times, okay amount of traffic, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected

Got a ride to the border with an "EST" sign. Pretty high speeds do trucks won't stop for sure but still works. Getting to here by bus from Riga very easy.

Not very busy but every car passing you will most likely drive to Riga so that's nice. A long bus stop for cars to stop and they drive 60-80km/h. Good visibility.

Tough spot. Not a busy gas station but you can hitch the road from the gas station exit. Didn't have any luck to Latvia from here, only found a ride to the next village. If you wait long enough, getting to Riga shouldn't be a problem though.

Maybe I was greedy, but finding a car to Estonia was almost impossible. Not really advised, but I believe this is the best place going north from Riga.

Good spot! I always waved to the incoming cars as well as those exiting the gas station. Took me one oil truck all the way to Riga. He was exiting the gas station.

One male 40+, with a sign "VILNIUS" , one big and one small backpacks, dry but cloudy day. Going to Vilnius. A very good space. A bus stop, with enough space even for a truck, just after the entrance/exit to a petrol station. 8:45 in the morning. A perfect traffic, a car every 20-30 seconds. I barely started hitchhiking and a car stopped and took me to Bauska, where after 15 minutes I got another ride, all the way to Vilnius. The only problem with this place is getting there. Before, from Riga, there is a highway, plus it's 20 kms from the centre. So no chance to walk there. I got a ride from my friend. But I guess there must be a bus from Riga, stopping there.
