we walked along the road in makedonska kamenica and just tried different spots with place for cars to stop. around 10 minutes after we left the city a guy who was going to Stip took us. there is a good gas station on the way if you are headed to skopje

We just said hi to a Turk truck driver at border control. And he found us after border and took to Skopje. Gave us some beers too

We got around 4 cars which stopped to take us (to Skopje to Parnik), but we were three people so got a car to Kustendil

first car stopped towards skopje... super easy to hitch at toll booths anywhere in this country

Traffic is very local most of the time, probably better luck at early times of the day, at least you are in town but you cannot walk further up the road (signs forbidding pedestrian traffic 100m up the road towards Skopje), people are pretty friendly and interested in you so makes it easier to get rides.

On a Sunday morning, a police officer took me, he was heading to Skopje

Lol didn't even had the time to write my sign (used the thumb while few cars were passing by) that a car with two Macedonians asked me where I go : "South, North Macedonia...Bulgaria?" "Come in!". Indirect ride to Skopje because they invited me at a generous grill restaurant! Had no problem to pass me trough the border, even though I was heavily controlled

Created a sign for skopje on the flight and made sure to display it prominently on the flight. When I landed I walked to the road. Sadly there is nowhere to actually pull over, but cars where repeatedly happy to stop on in the middle of the road as theres very little traffic, its a small airport, and people are pretty chill and cool. I walked along this road towards the roundabout, thumbing cars that came, and I think the tenth car stopped and just said get in. No taxi approaches and the driver spoke perfect English and where cool travellers themselves. Had a lovely journey and arrived in skopje before the shuttle bus (which would have cost €4) had even left the airport. If you dont feel like hitching there is a shuttle bus for 199 den (about 4eur). But it leaves every two hours. The ATMS and money changers offer crap rates. Change money in the city.

This seemed like the most practical place to hitch (directly on the motorway but with a big hardshoulder for cars to stop, and due to the border chaos it was fairly slow traffic.) Demoralising as lot of cars where taking the exit just before this though. Still, perseverance. Tons of trucks rejected me, but eventually got offered a ride to Skopje, allowing me to reach Ljubljana. The driver spoke English and was super cool. 60 mins for a super fast ride in a BMW is pretty damn good.

It is a bit difficult to get there. Not evey comfortable. But it is possible to get a ride towards North Macedonia. Do use a sign. I was advised to use Skopje instead of NMK

We hitchiked as a couple. We were trying to get to Skopje from Prizren. Got a ride till Prevalle. Beautiful scenic road.

Waited 20 minutes. Got a ride with a Kosovo gentleman till Skopje city center

2 guys. We were surprised, but almost none cars passing through the gas station. In 3 hours about 20 cars passed (including the gas station guy after the shift). But if you start kindly asking, someone will take you, although most of the cars stopping are not going to Skopje.

Got a ride to Skopje after it was already dark

Good spot. Everyone goes towards Macedonia. Had a sign "Macedonia". A truck with macedonian driver stoped and luckily I got a ride almost to Skopje (driver went to Tetovo and had to drop me before Skopje, so the rest I just walked)

Amazing people picked us up in 10min and brought to Skopje

It was horrible, no one stopped for us. We waited there two days. Then got a ride from a police officer on duty to the closest bus station to skopje. Wouldnt recomend this way.

Used this spot to hitch a ride into Skopje. I ended up just focussing on the people coming off the A2 highway, as traffic already on the road was driving too quickly and no space to pull over. But it works out perfectly because all drivers coming from the A2 have to come to a complete stop and wait until traffic is clear so enough time to make some hand signals and get some real eye contact.

Got picked up by a truck while standing in the grass on the left side the road (driver side). Used a sign with Skopje. Little shade but the post of a tall sign was just about big enough to hitch partly shaded. People drive slow here and you're very visible

We took the minibus from Ohrid to Struga told them to stop in Podmolge (1eur person) then walked to the highway till the spot. A Macedonia couple a police men and a military women took us to Kićevo. From there we got a ride with a truck driver to Skopje.
