Waited for quite sometime but it was on a Sunday when most people went back to Skopje rather than going out

The police will order you to move to this gas station from the border eventually. We got ride quickly to Skopje. Stay near the highway . We used a sign saying MKD.

Got a ride by some Germans to Skopje. Great spot, cars are going slowly

I came from Niš and got dropped off by the first ride (truck) here since he had to stay on the highway I could've asked for a Kumanovo drop-off but thought maybe some cars there would head south and not to Skopje. In hindsight, I should've chosen the Lukoil on the highway just south of Kumanovo because it would have way more cars In contrast, this gas station doesn't get much traffic. I mostly signed to get the cars on the road behind this gas station, and only ran to the gas station when a car pulled up. Many cars either didn't stop or were full, some local/neighborhood traffic. It was a Sunday FYI Eventually got picked up by a Macedonian couple and they dropped me off at a mall 30min walk from the center

Solo female. Asked around for Skopje but many cars were going to Bulgaria or were full (with kids/pets/grandparents). Maybe because it was a Sunday during the summer But idk if there's another spot near Niš that could be easier, since there's no gas stations on the southbound highway until almost Vranje Eventually found a big truck who dropped me off just outside of Skopje because he had to stay on the Ring Road highway

Its alright, we hitchiked at the end of the gas station so that we could hitch cars both from the road and gas station lot of locals, but we managed to get a ride directly to Skopje

was walking to the north and turned around when cars passed by. dude took me to great rest station with restaurant on the way to skopje, where it's super easy to find a ride. called "Mekicite od Strazha"

we walked along the road in makedonska kamenica and just tried different spots with place for cars to stop. around 10 minutes after we left the city a guy who was going to Stip took us. there is a good gas station on the way if you are headed to skopje

We just said hi to a Turk truck driver at border control. And he found us after border and took to Skopje. Gave us some beers too

We got around 4 cars which stopped to take us (to Skopje to Parnik), but we were three people so got a car to Kustendil

first car stopped towards skopje... super easy to hitch at toll booths anywhere in this country

Traffic is very local most of the time, probably better luck at early times of the day, at least you are in town but you cannot walk further up the road (signs forbidding pedestrian traffic 100m up the road towards Skopje), people are pretty friendly and interested in you so makes it easier to get rides.

On a Sunday morning, a police officer took me, he was heading to Skopje

Lol didn't even had the time to write my sign (used the thumb while few cars were passing by) that a car with two Macedonians asked me where I go : "South, North Macedonia...Bulgaria?" "Come in!". Indirect ride to Skopje because they invited me at a generous grill restaurant! Had no problem to pass me trough the border, even though I was heavily controlled

Created a sign for skopje on the flight and made sure to display it prominently on the flight. When I landed I walked to the road. Sadly there is nowhere to actually pull over, but cars where repeatedly happy to stop on in the middle of the road as theres very little traffic, its a small airport, and people are pretty chill and cool. I walked along this road towards the roundabout, thumbing cars that came, and I think the tenth car stopped and just said get in. No taxi approaches and the driver spoke perfect English and where cool travellers themselves. Had a lovely journey and arrived in skopje before the shuttle bus (which would have cost €4) had even left the airport. If you dont feel like hitching there is a shuttle bus for 199 den (about 4eur). But it leaves every two hours. The ATMS and money changers offer crap rates. Change money in the city.

This seemed like the most practical place to hitch (directly on the motorway but with a big hardshoulder for cars to stop, and due to the border chaos it was fairly slow traffic.) Demoralising as lot of cars where taking the exit just before this though. Still, perseverance. Tons of trucks rejected me, but eventually got offered a ride to Skopje, allowing me to reach Ljubljana. The driver spoke English and was super cool. 60 mins for a super fast ride in a BMW is pretty damn good.
