I actually preferred this spot over the restaurant parking lots nearby. When I was there, the parking lots were pretty empty but there was traffic on the road. There is a bus stop where cars can easily pull over right before the highway to different directions. Had a sign that said Leiden, my ride would only have gone to Alphen but ended up taking me the whole way to Leiden Central Station. Surprisingly good spot. Even though it was already 9pm.

Literally got from one car into the next. Ride took me to near Gouda (was asking for the direction of Leiden)

Great spot if you need to go to (northern) leiden from the direction of Amsterdam. The exit of Leiden itself is a bad to spot to hitchhike and quite far from the city.

Going to Leiden and most people were going Amsterdam. Eventually found a couple going back home. Definitely asking is the way at the station

Was there at sunrise on a weekday. In around 25 minutes, I was offered two different rides. One in the direction of Rotterdam, and another towards a petrol station on the highway just outside of Leiden. At this hour it was all short-distance work traffic.

Catching all traffic to the A4 motorway from the south part of Leiden. At his spot, the traffic is speeding up from 50 km/h to 80 km/h, but there is enough place to stop on the exit lane to a small parking lot.

Used this spot quite often for Leiden, Den Haag and Rotterdam. Usually takes less than 20 mins.

Waited 10min to get to Leiden. Had a sign.

A 15 mins hitchhike and a car with a nice driver took me directly to Leiden.

Cars have to stop at the traffic lights or are comming out of Wassenaar. Therefore they're not fast and there's plenty of space to stop. Really good to get towards Leiden and a lot further :)

People moving further on the A12 to Den Haag or To Leiden via the N11. Best place to stand if your first lift goes down the A12 and you have to go on the N11

Petrol station Bijleveld. This is the big service station between Rotterdam/The Hague/Delft/Leiden/Zoetermeer/Gouda. You can find here rides towards Zwolle, Apeldoorn, Arnhem and Eindhoven/Maastricht.
