A old french couple took me to Vilar Formoso.

In summer crowded place with a lot of ppl heading west of Spain or Portugal (mainly Porto). Out of the season maybe not that good place. After few minutes I found a couple who give me a lift to Guimaraes.rating: 4/5, wait: 10 min 💬+🪧, ride: 321 km ↙

If you go south, better ask only for rides to Viana. From there it's easier to go to Porto. This spot got me a ride compared to the one on the south of the townrating: 4/5, wait: 30 min 🪧, ride: 17 km ↘

Try not to get dropped off here. It's indeed a spot, but on the highway and the cars go really fast here. The parking is closed btw so not a valid rest stop really. (Sign: Porto)rating: 1/5, wait: 15 min 🪧

Not the busiest in terms of cars but bunch of trucks. Waited for just over 3 hours at this station. Asked around, stood at the exit, tried the highway too. Eventually a truck stopped at the exit and agreed to take me to Porto.rating: 3/5, wait: 180 min 💬+🪧, ride: 197 km ↖

Signs in general don’t seem to have worked for me so when I started asking people through Google translate I had much better results. Did this from 9:30am and at 11:20 a man was going to Fatima and said he can take me. March 8th during raining time and still all good. I’m sure you could find people straight to Porto or Coimbra but I wasn’t lucky enoughrating: 4/5, wait: 100 min, ride: 74 km ↑

We saw another pair of hitchhikers immediately find a lift to Porto so I think we just had less luck. We got a lift to Tordesillas with some persuasion.rating: 3/5, wait: 45 min 💬+🪧, ride: 190 km ↙

Busy gas station on the way to the main highway (A1) heading norte.Really easy at friday's afternoon.
Talk to the drivers and ask if they can take you to the next service area. Once in the highway really easy to go to Porto.
Disadvantages: near the city center, a lot of people just passing or going for the suburbs.

I only took a look at this spot since the driver from Vila Pouca de Aguiar dropped me here by mistake on my way north-south. This spot can lead you west to Porto, but it's so steep so I'd recommend the one more south-west in Parada do Cuñhos. On the other hand, the bus station is 2 minutes walking :)rating: 3/5

Very good spot to continue the hitchhike to south. A water spring is available. Drivers smiled, 2 cars stopped within 40-50 minutes and the second one dropped me in Vila Real. However, if you are going to Viseu/Coimbra, don't drop off on the western side of Vila Real where the bus station is, or you'll need a city bus to A24 entrance (5/31/51, cost 1,55€). Also if you wanna continue to Porto or the west, that highway entrance in Vila Real city centre looks steep and uncomfortable to wait at, so you'd better check the map for a better continuation.
Here might be good northward as well.
