Many people are leaving the city (Arad) and drive in the direction of Timisoara. There is shadow under the bridge and a little space for cars to stop. It took us (f,26 and m,49) 30 Min. to get a lift

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Arad in Timisoara. Across the road there was a welcome to Arad sign and behind me end of Arad one. It looks like a very good spot. A double lane changes here into a single one. So, the end of the finish lane is a very good place for cars and lorries to stop. A hundred metres before there is a very bumpy railway track and all cars have to slow almost to zero, so they will pass you slowly. Good visibility. One bad thing there is no shade. After 25 minuts waiting I got a ride to Timisoara.

I was waiting at the end of the last grass island (by the very exit there wasn't enough space to stop) hitchhiking sometimes with a right hand and sometitimes with a left one. Occasionally with both so I looked like Jesus 😁 There is no shade. The toilets are free. After 25 minutes Romanian lorry drivers picked me up and took to Arad.

I was waiting only 5 minuys and I got a lift to the last petrol station before Seged from two women and a young girl. I was waiting at the exit of the petrol station hitchhiking with a right hand cars leaving the station and with a left one those driving along the ramp joining highway. So sometimes I looked like Jesus 😁 There is no shade. The toilet and internet are free at the station.

At the very end of the petrol station there is little space, so I was waiting a bit closer, at the end of the last grass island, hitchhiking once with a right another time with a left hand. And sometimes with both, and then I looked like Jesus 😁 No shade, quite busy traffic, both cars and lorries. There is free internet, but the toilets are paid. After 15 minutes a lorry took me to another petrol station 55 kms along the highway. There were some road works so it took as nearly 1,5 hours 🙄

I only add that place is a bit uphill so lorry drivers may not be keen on stopping here. A 100 meters closer to the center there is a flat and long exit from the petrol station, but it's after a curve so visibility is limited. The choice is yours. No shade, cars coming in waves due to the traffic lights a bit before. After 15 minutes I got a ride to a petrol station 27 kms along the highway, from where quickly I got another lift. The couple even forced a chocolate bar on me 😊

Got an incredible ride with an old super nice Romanian guy. Once we arrived in Arad he took me to the town hall for a tour, then he showed me around the city, brought me home for lunch and gave me 200 lei

Cars are slow because of the roundabout an they can easily stop. Good spot for arad or timisoara. There is another good spot in front of the roundabout

Ideal spot to go to Arad or Timişoara

I tried to catch a car to the west, standing with a sign. I was picked up by a kind Romanian who was going to Arad.

Long wide shoulder for cars to stop. Rides direction Arrava Junction or Arad.

Didnt wait long to get a ride to Arad even though there wasnt a lot of traffic.

Not an ideal spot but it's definitely possible to get a ride from here both in direction of Serbia and Romania. We waited for a little over an hour before we caught a ride to Arad in Romania

There's many rest stops on this road, and I'm not sure which one I was dropped off at because my ride did not speak any english, but I got extremely lucky and was dropped off literally in front of another ride (Romanian) that at first drove me to Budapest and then accepted to take me all the way to Arad, Romania. This is extreme luck on my behalf though, so be careful with these rest stops, they can be hit or miss. Stop at a petrol station up ahead (ask for "benzinkút") or at the Austrian/ Hungarian border if you don't want to take a chance.

There is very little traffic at this border crossing, and it's difficult to get here. Most of the traffic into Romania is from Hungary to Arad, so unless you have a specific reason to enter from here, you better avoid. Hitchhiking after the border towards timisoara wasn't easy because of very little traffic. I was lucky the border police helped me and put me on a truck

With patience and some Luck you can get a ride to Oradea, Maybe Cluj. Much more traffic going to Arad though. If you are heading to the Northern part of Romania, consider going via Arad, once you're in Ro hitching will go much faster!
