Not an ideal spot but it's definitely possible to get a ride from here both in direction of Serbia and Romania. We waited for a little over an hour before we caught a ride to Arad in Romania

There's many rest stops on this road, and I'm not sure which one I was dropped off at because my ride did not speak any english, but I got extremely lucky and was dropped off literally in front of another ride (Romanian) that at first drove me to Budapest and then accepted to take me all the way to Arad, Romania. This is extreme luck on my behalf though, so be careful with these rest stops, they can be hit or miss. Stop at a petrol station up ahead (ask for "benzinkút") or at the Austrian/ Hungarian border if you don't want to take a chance.

There is very little traffic at this border crossing, and it's difficult to get here. Most of the traffic into Romania is from Hungary to Arad, so unless you have a specific reason to enter from here, you better avoid. Hitchhiking after the border towards timisoara wasn't easy because of very little traffic. I was lucky the border police helped me and put me on a truck

With patience and some Luck you can get a ride to Oradea, Maybe Cluj. Much more traffic going to Arad though. If you are heading to the Northern part of Romania, consider going via Arad, once you're in Ro hitching will go much faster!

If you want to go to Serbia, it will be difficult. This place is perfect for Romanians. They just have to stop here if they are going somewhere far, because after crossing Romanian border there is literally no gas station on the highway xD
I stood there 2 hours with my girlfriend, 3 drivers stopped in total. And well we had sign Bucaresti... First one was going only to Arad so we didn't want to get stuck there, I mean it was too close for us. Another one was going somewhere near border too, they were all unable to speak german or english. Finally Romanian guy was going to Galacz and gave us a lift to the mountains near Sybin.

Direction: WEST
This is a good spot to go to Arad, Timisoara, or even Budapest/Wien/etc
Since the highway was made, this became a better spot than the one next to MC Donalds, since all the traffic from Sibiu goes on the highway.

To get here you would need a help from someone to drop you off, or you would have to have a walk(quite long ~ 1hour)

i was there 2 times and find long distances in short times.
first time: at the beginning of July 2012 with a cardboard sign: BUDAPEST.
Driver from my nationality stop and goes to Salzburg but drop me somewhere where 1 road goes to VIENA and 2 road goes to Salzburg.
time of waiting: 7 minutes
time start to hh: 8:45 am
in around Viena 15:00

the second time: in the middle of august 2014 just with the thumb up.
it was the first driver and stop but also a german who live in Ploiesti and who it was from many years here.
stop to buy Rovignieta and some cigarettes before the border.he goes me right to the center of Budapest even should to go Bratislava and then HANNOVER.

i was walking from Mall Arad to this industrial area for 35 min
arriving time:1 pm
waiting time : 1 min

Direction: NORTH-WEST SIBIU-SEBES-DEVA- A1 or

E68 the same direction and places
it is not a good spot for hitchhiking cause cars and trucks really high speed but there is enough space to stop.
i was drop there so the only solution it was highway A1.
it works with thumb up.
i ve catch a truck driver who goes to my destination-ARAD .
it was in the middle of August 2014 and there is a place under construction where you can hide of sun rays or rain.
the time: 10-15 minutes

Probably not the best place to go east, but not bad if you are leaving from Szeged. We got a ride to Arad in a very short time

Direction Transilvania, Sibiu, Arad, Serbia
follow the describtion on hitchwiki,
Get the metro to Pacii (note the metro is a bit crazy - if you're not careful the trains change lines without warning and you can end up at Gare Du Nord again!). From Pacii you have to find the main road going west, and go to the first bus stop. Get the first bus that says Carrefour and go all the way to Carrefour shopping centre, this is the start of the motorway.

just walk back a little bit to this bridge, its not that simple to climb up the wall but its makebale also with a heavy backpack.
Then you stand direct on the highway there is enough space for cars and trucks to stopp over! got a lift after 3 minutes to alba Lulia so quite good space!!!

A lot of drivers stop here to change money and get a vignette. Found my ride to Sibiu here in 5 minutes (but it might have been luck). From the border this is the main road east (if going via Arad), so all drivers and trucks will pass here. Ask people or just make a nice sign. Remember: 'fr bani (without money)'.

Perfect location to the south and east. Loads of Romanians but Serbian and Hungarian cars as well. This was on a monday morning. Found my ride to Arad in 5 minutes but if you ask around you can totally go further as well. Last big petrol station before the road splits so you will find drivers to Romania via both Oradea and Arad. Remember 'fr bani (without money)'

Takes quite some time to get there; train to Inrcs-Kakucs and then walk to the gas station. The walk is about 40 minutes.
