One male 40+, one big backpack, no sign, a sunny day. On my way from Baia Mare in Romania to Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine, about 250 kms (successful).
Finally! I got a long ride. And it was straight to my destination. After 5 short rides that day in Ukraine, I got a decent one.
I got dropped just around the corner by the previous driver and I decided to keep walking. I walked less than 10 minutes, hitchhiking along the way, when a woman stopped (btw. many women pickedme that day) here and she took me to Ivano-Frankivsk. Actually she was bypassing it, so she dropped me in the outskirts of the city and I walked the remaining a few kilometres.

Well, another short ride. The 5th that day.
I was dropped in the centre of the town. I walked out of it and I started hitchhiking while still walking. After 7 minutes and less than a kilometer walk I got another short lift from a woman (many women picking me that day). 2 kilometres. Yes, two.
It shows that people are very helpful here but they don't travel far.

The continuation of short rides series. I was dropped in the previous village and I started hitchhiking whilewalking up north. The traffic wasn't busy. After half an hour (2,5 kms walk), when I was passing through this village a driver stopped and gave me 15 kms ride. The 4th short ride in Ukraine that day.

After two short rides in Ukraine that day, the 3rd one came. I was dropped by the previous driver 700 m west of this spot. I started walking and hitchhiking and here another driver stopped and gave me 14 kilometres ride.

I got dropped in the village centre, after a short ride. Straight away I got checked by a police patrol. I started walking. I walk 2,5 kms. During that walk I was checked again by a military patrol (it sucks to be a man in Ukraine now). The last less than 10 minutes I hitchhiked while walking. At this spot a woman stopped and offered me a ride. She said she wasn't going far. But I was surprised when after less than one kilometer (yes, one) she said "That's it". So, I got off and carried on walking waiting for another short ride.

After crossing the border I walked up to here. A really good spot. A wide exit from the petrol station gives plenty of room to pull over. Good visibility. There is shade. Not very busy traffic.
After 20 minutes a guy stopped and offered his "taxi service". I passed.
Then I got blocked by a herd of cows, which surrounded me for almost 10 minutes.
After 40 minutes one guy stopped, but he was going only to the next village. I passed.
I should have taken that ride, coz 30 minutes later a woman stopped and offered me the same ride. This time I took it and I started a village to a village jumping (a series of short rides).

It was my last hitchhiking in Romania, during that trip, and I couldn't imagine a more perfect "goodbye".
My previous driver dropped me at this petrol station. A nice place. Good visibility, shade and room to pull over. I walked to the road, I didn't even have time to drop my backpack coz the first car was coming. I put my thumb up and I was on my way to Sighetu Marmației.

Pretty good spot. Still urban, but I guess it's the case for quite a few kms, so I stopped here. Plenty of space to pull over. No shade. I had really good visibility. The driver a bit less, coz the sun was still low and it was shining straight in their eyes. Busy morning traffic.
After 15 minutes the first car stopped but it wasn't going my way. 10 minutes later another guy stopped and he dropped me 20 kms before Sighetu Marmației.

One male 40+, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Crucișor village to Baia Mare, about 40 kms (successful).
The place had good visibility and there was shade. On the other had there was little space to stop (entrances to properties) and it was still urban. But the town didn't want to finish so I decided it was good enough.
And it was. After 4 minutes I was in a car, on my way to Baia Mare.

I actually felt like walking that day. After a very short lift before, I started walking again. I walked over 3 kms (around 40 minutes), most of it through Pomi village. At this spot a guy stopped and he gave me a lift to the next town - Seini (5kms).

I actually felt like walking that day. Plus there was almost no traffic in the village. After 50 minutes and 4 kms, the 15th car stopped. The guy was going to Satu Mare, so I passed. But he really wanted to give me a lift to the nearest junction, which was.... less than a kilometer away.
So, I decided to please him and I let him to give me a lift 😁

From Piata Mihai Viteazau you take bus number 8. You go by bus till Someseni, this is after Aurel Vlaicu. There you can find a good ramp. There is enough space to make a contact with drivers, there is a trafic light and also the cars are very slowly. From here you can go to Dej, Baia Mare or Bistrita, Ucraina, Suceava, Moldova. Do not forget to tell that you will not pay the lift. NU AM BANI, NU PLATESC. Is very important to say that after Salut, Hello.

Going to Merry Cemitery, to Creasta Cocosului or Ukraine. Get the bus 8 from Baia Mare and go all the way to the last stop, it will let you at a perfect place.

There is a high chance that you are coming from/to Cluj/Trgu Mures and the driver will drop you here. Don't worry for it is a perfect spot. If your intention is to go beyond Cluj, like Hungary, Oradea, Baia Mare, others, many drivers enter the Highway here and your chance to find a car is great. I've done it here several times.

The place is really great. We (2 girls) were picked up pretty quickly to the direction of Baia Mare. This spot is few meters away from the local HH spot, where drivers were ready to take us whenever we want for the payment. But 'nu ambani' (no money) works very well :) Also we walked for some 25 min to this spot from the UA-RO border

There is plenty of spots but I tried to hitchhike for above 2 hours, even changing spots but almost nobody goes to Sighetu from Baia Mare, especially during weekends.
