I think here is not a bad spot but try to get a lift to at least Tver or a gas station far from Moscow where you can catch some truck doing long distance. Maybe it's even better to take a train that goes far away from the city to start HH, incredible amount of local traffic. I did the mistake to accept a ride from a actually good guy, Vladimir, but I lost almost 2-3 hours with him because I thought he was going to Saint Petersburg and he invited me, showed me around etc. He dropped me in a empty gas station where most of people again were locals.

Never had such problems with hitchhiking. Looks like perfect spot but there was a big problem with gas so lot of queue. You can think that lot of people will be able to see you and take you further...well no : nobody on 8 hours took me even when I was talking to them. Direction Moscow : plenty of cars but nobody stopped and a lot were full. Voronej ? Nobody stopped. ROSTOV ? Nobody was going there (at least, from what they said). I met another Russian dude that was working there, Nikita, and like me he needed to go to Rostov. We tried so hard and nobody stopped, not even the Mashoutka on the highway and of course internet was not working in that zone so even getting a taxi took us 2 hours. Gas problem was impacting so much the drivers psychology it's insane!!! Anyway, it was interesting experience tho hahaha

a little bit of traffic, but they definitely go to M11, and chances are that 50% go to Moscow and 50% to St.Petersburg. So if you are stuck in Solnechnogorsk and need to escape it, take the 21/34/27 bus till the graveyard and then just go to the tollgates. ask for gas station along m11 if they dont want to take you far away.

Me and my friend (two guys) were traveling from Moscow to Riga, asked drivers here for the ride to Riga - nobody accepted (BUT maybe you'll be lucky so ask as much as possible). Right after the border on Latvian side there is a good spot to hithc-hike but drivers don't like to stop here. My advice is to walk by the road A12 further. Good luck everybody!

There were road works when I got there, so cars had to slow down. The first two that stopped were going towards Samara, the third took us in the direction of Moscow.

Try to avoid hitchhiking from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod on a friday....traffic is insane. While seeing the huge traffic jam going up the hill I tried to get a lift to Nizhny Novgorod from there. After about 20 minutes I just decided to walk along the traffic jam searching eye contact with some driver and stuck out my thumb. That worked pretty well, however walking was the same speed :D TAKE CARE! The hard shoulder can become very dangerous in Russia!

I tried to hitch a ride from somwhere here to moscow. It was quite difficult and I couldn't really find a good place to stand. It's probably best to stand at some of the cross walks. It was also not really worth it to walk on towards the hill to make use of the natural slow down. There's less space and cars are as fast. If you end up here just be patient and within an hour you'll get your lift ;)

From here I hitched a ride to Bologoye to visit Alexey (CS) and have a stopover while hitchhiking from St Petersburg to Moscow. I didn't have to wait for more than 10 minutes.

got dropped of right here because the driver continued to Veliky Novgorod. I just stayed there and it wasn't too bad. I got into a car which was going to moscow. (I was having a stopover in Bologoye at Alexey's place (CS) which is half way to Moscow. )
