I waited just before the roundabout but maybe waiting on the traffic light just before it is a better spot for cars to stop. Anyway, a car stop after a very short time and he took me to León. Very good spot also if you are going to Oviedo.

Spot is visible to westward cars coming onto the highway and the gas station. However, cars coming onto the highway are often accelerating, and on the lookout for cars merging in. They might not be able to notice you, and even if they do it is hard to stop in time.
There is a crash barrier which can make you less visible too though it does make you much safer.
To get from our normal pedestrian roads to the gas station, there is a side road behind the toll booth office that is not monitored.
This day was just before the eclipse in Spain so there were more foreign plates. But the traffic was a bit slower than some other highways I've been to.
The man who picked me up was a Lithuanian driving to Oviedo, and there's no reason to believe that people would only be doing short hops here.

For the direction of Porto in Portugal, someone take us for the direction of Oviedo, so it's a nice spot. Even more because we wait under the rain

When you go out of city try this. There is a place where the car can stop. It took us probably 30 mins to catch a car to Oviedo.

Going to Oviedo. I just waited for 10 minutes. In the north part of Spain it's very useful to have a sign with the place you want to go. People trust you more that way!

I stood in the round about on my way to Oviedo and waited 2 hours just to get a 20 km ride.

It is good place if you go to Oviedo. Just stay on roundabout or before on Avda. de Portugal and you can be picked up in some minutes. I tried to hitchhike from there to A Coruna too, but with no luck for almost an hour.

I waited there for a whole afternoon and couldn’t leave. All the cars seemed to be going to Oviedo. I ended up finding a ride backwards to a petrol station on the highway the next day and I was off in less than 30 minutes.

A better bet would be to ask at the gasolineras when people leave the autopista to refuel. Or take the beautiful, cheap FEVE train that goes to Oviedo along a scenic route.
