Not working if you are looking to go to Vitora / Bilbao. It seems better if you wanna reach Santander (?)rating: 1/5

We got super lucky with a direct car to Santander, but it is not such a busy petrol station, but still the best option I guess to get North from Cordoba.rating: 3/5, wait: 80 min, ride: 762 km ↑

Walked from the coast, hitch hiking, finally got a ride from a nice lady to Meruelo, biggest inland borough before the bay of Santander. Don't count on this spot though. It was poorly chosen. The fact remain that Cantabria is a great region for hitchhiking, because people here feel generally quite relax and nice.rating: 5/5, wait: 45 min, ride: 5 km ←

Seemed to be mostly local traffic but I'm sure you could get a ride to Santander with a bit of luck

All the cars go to Santander, so it's not good for Bilbao. Moreover there are not too many cars going to the high way.rating: 2/5, wait: 25 min, ride: 5 km →

The way to this big petrol station in direction Santander: Go to the bus stop Los heros, from there cross the bridge, turn right and walk aprox 300m until you reach the high waltage mast on your right side (it's visible on the map). Turn right to it thru the grass, on your left is a fence - if you follow the fence - there is trodden path through the bushes - you will reach the petrol station over the exit to the highway easily in 3 minutes (with a bit of scratch legs - but we are not sissies right:D). This is the fastest way. Then took me 30min to catch a car but its about luck. It's most convenient spot to hh out of Bilbao.rating: 5/5, wait: 30 min, ride: 26 km ↖

It is probably better in summer. There were a lot of cars. It took us around 30 mins. Some women brought us a piece of box with "Santander". Better. Good luck.―Boruvka.d, August 2016

A place to get a ride direction north (Santander). There's a gas station nearby, too.
There are two roads going up to Santander, following slightly different routes... both from this spot, and perhaps from the gas station, you'll find cars going up.
On a Sunday morning there was plenty of cars passing this spot, I had a sign to Santander, and in 10min got the first ride that took me some 30km up.
Can't say though if it's a good spot at anytime... it looks ok, not great but ok.
It's a warehouse and fields kind of area... not much there, but easy to reach walking out from Burgos.
I came walking from little roads behind the castle hills, if you come along the main road, maybe there's other good spots before that.

If you're hitchhiking to Santander/Bilbao, make sure to stand HERE and not on the much smaller CA-141, which noones uses for bigger distances. We made this mistake and waited hours on CA-141, until someone told us to wait here. Here we got a ride within 30 minutes to Santander. Lot of tourists come here because of the big beach. Supermarket on the corner.―Anonymous, September 2014

Good spot to go west. Santander and Laredo are super easy from here. Only complication is staying out of the road and making yourself visible to all three lanes coming.―Anonymous, July 2014

There are two gasolineras..one of them in direction Santander. A lot of inner-city traffic. In the end the workers of the gasstation kicked us of. We went to to the entrance of the autovia and we get a lift within 10 min.―Anonymous, March 2014

If you want to go to Santander or Bilbao here's a good spot to do it. There are a lot of people passing by with an "S" on their licence tag. I had a sign saying "Bilbao" but I would recommend you to write Santander. That's where I got a ride to.―Anonymous, September 2013

It's a good place to stay. There are loads of cars passing by and you should have no problem to catch a ride if you want to go to Bilbao o Santander. I was waiting for 20-30min until some guys took me to the next gas station. There I had more luck.―Mochilero, September 2013

We waited for about one hour to with "Santander" on the name plate, and we caught a ride along the northern coast to Ornion, I would rate it as average as the driver, who stopped immediately rushed that he can not stop there (although we were waiting just before the highway sign).Quite heavy traffic and easily accessible from the center of Bilbao to metro station Santurtzi really counts

Perfect place to go to Santander or Bilbao. There's enough space for stopping cars and the traffic is very fluid. Between 15 to 60 min.rating: 4/5

I waited no longer than 30 mins, lots of traffic and a safe place to stop. I stood just on the ramp that was heading towards Bilbao/Santander/South of Spain. Its only a 15 - 20 minute walk from the bay arearating: 3/5
