Was here at night with Bern sign. As always in Switzerland, few cars at night. Got to Lausanne eventually.

Excellent spot (tyre chaining area) AFTER the roundabout towards Switzerland. No light at night. 5 minutes with a smartphone-lit Swiss flag and i got a car to Lausanne. The Swiss shops Denner sell big swiss-flag-shopping-bags, that's genius, used it to carry things and as a destination sign on my shoulder. It's bright red and highly visible in the distance.

Good spot, a lot of traffic even at night. Definitely all cars towards Pontarlier and Switzerland go through here. However not so much space so it's not easy to stop. Get a Swiss flag, it's bright red and will make you visible and friendly to Swiss people (obviously only if you're going there). Better than a cardboard sign especially at night (no lights! Lighting up the flag with a smartphone was a good idea) Stand below the signs 'Lausanne', not below the electronic board (turning road, you won't be seen and high speed, very dangerous). Fun anecdote: when someone picked me up, we got circled by 2 police cars. Someone had been calling the police signaling "someone standing on the road"! Lol! I hope they’re just as effective when a burglary is reported to them. Nevertheless the policemen were nice and we did'nt get into trouble.

Mostly regional traffic, in my opinion not such a good spot to go south (Lausanne, Martigny)

Nice long lane after this spot for cars to stop, I saw it more frequented than the other exit cause all cars from all parkings exited here. Got a ride to Lausanne by a nice Belgian man visiting his daughter, they even invited me to their flat for a glass of water and giving advices about the city.

perfect spot for berne/lausanne (and also geneve), got took in lausanne with a direct ride in almost 40-45min fully recommend it : lots of space to stop (bus stop) and lots of traffic that drive slow good luck the place is perfect 🙌🏼

With "Lausanne" sign two girls got picked up quickly until Lausanne

Heading towards Geneva with a sign. Got a ride with an Afghan man going to Geneva in 15 minutes standing at the exit. Lots of people going long distances and got a lot of smiles and waves. Would recommend to get out of Basel towards Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich etc.

Probably the best spot to leave Payene and get back onto the highway. Approach people on the (quite busy) gas station and find someone going to the highway station near Frasses. From there you'll be good. Not recommended for longer trips. Almost all local traffic but some folks going to Lausanne

There's a gas station nearby and you can stand on a shoulder between the roundabout and the highway. Not the most long-distance traffic but good for getting to Lausanne

First I was hitchhiking just after the douane with a parking behind. It was nice, shadow with slow cars and place to parks. Unfortunately a giy from the border asked me to move after the vignette shop. Actually it was not so bad because I could talk to people, and this is how I've found to guys in the direction of Lausanne. Though they were a bit scared with questions half laughing: "don't you have any weapon on your bag ?"

There is a small lane to pullover. If you find yourself here, You will only see local traffic. Or cars going to Biel. Take a ride with one of those cars. Go to the gas station "Grauholz" in Ittigen, It is the biggest rest stop / "raststätte". From there you can Hitchike to Basel,Biel and Zürich easily. If you cross the autobahn, which is possible by walking the overhead bridge. You can go south (Fribourg, Lausanne...) from the otherside easily.

I always take this spot to go to Yverdon/Lausanne or further (Geneva or France). There is not as many cars as you would imagine, but at some point people stop, and there is plenty of room for them to stop :)

Picked up by a guy who works as a bus driver in Lausanne, argued with his mom on the phone about where the best place to me off was, eventually settled on the airport, where it was pretty easy to take a bus to the border. Gave me 20 Swiss francs as a gift, which is equivalent to 1 billion US dollars

Direction Lausanne. The spot is a bit sketchy since cars are moving fast with little space to pull over. Best to stand in the black triangle in front of the turn and hop cars pull up on-to it.

Very easy to get a lift to lausanne, after you are on the highway get off on La Cote rest stop if you need to go far into switzerland

Great spot, lots of traffic, easy to approach people filling up at the gas station. A lot of cars go further ahead to the shopping though so if you are two people splitting up is an advantage. Getting off here is probably the best option even if you lift can take you all the way to lausanne.
