Really good spot to go to Winterthur or Zürich, the cars can pull over easily and they don't come too fast because of the traffic lights. I (male) was alone.rating: 5/5, wait: 5 min 🪧, ride: 28 km ↓

There are loads of people going to the surroundings or just to Bern which makes it a little bit difficult, but in fact there are so many people that you just HAVE TO find sme going to e.g. Zürich or Winterthur. Especially because there are some trucks. As I arrived at the evening I met three further groups of hitchhikers and they were all staying not too long. Very motivating experience!―Mochilero, September 2013

Only hitched from there once. There is this little parking spot in front the bank where cars can go in to pick you up. So it's actually quite easy for them to stop. Most of the cars go to the highway to Winterthur. The first big gas station is just a few kilometers away and almost everyone goes at least there. A sign definitely helps. Ist a great spot. You can walk there from the city centre and it takes out really fast.―Jakob muc, May 2013

a perfect relais between ZURICH (or WINTERTHUR) and ST. GALLEN, KONSTANZ (germany) or SCHAFFHAUSEN. you will find a BP petrol station, a restaurant and a small COOP supermarket. you reach this spot conveniently with suburban train (s-bahn) number 7 from zurich or winterthur. get off at 'kempthal station' and wander up the hill (4 minutes) behind the factory buildings. there is many cars stopping at this raststaette. on my personal rating from 1 (poor) to 10 (a very good place) 'rastanlage kempthal' will get a '10'.―Anonymous, December 2010

If going south, past Zürich and out the other side, be careful - this is the last petrol station on this motorway before Zürich! It is very difficult to get a ride further south, and Zürich itself can be difficult to hitch from. I got a ride towards Bern after 1 hour.http://hitchwiki.org/en/Winterthur

For hitching EASTBOUND (Winterthur, St. Gallen/Austria) I have never tried myself yet, but will do so soon. I know you can sort of walk onto the lead of the highway but theres no space for the cars to stop. all traffic that comes from the east, needs to get through town, following E41. But they usually use the tunnel. So maybe you only try this point in case the other one at Bucheggstrasse does not work. Catch a tram to Milchbuck (7, 9, 10, 14) and then follow the road to "oerlikon", you will see the signs for the cars pointing out Highway and Wintertur/St.gallenrating: 3/5
