This seems like the best spot for going south out of Duluth. There are plenty of cars taking that ramp and there is space for them to pull over. I took the city bus from the north side of Duluth near Brighton Beach to about 3 blocks from here. I could imagine it taking a lot longer than 25 minutes to get a ride because in my experience, the hitchhiking between the Twin Cities and Duluth can be difficult at times.rating: 3/5, wait: 25 min, ride: 185 km ↙

Be friendly, super polite and you will get a lift towards Brighton or London. If you are patient it is probably worth it to ask for longer distances and not go with people that are just going shorts to Portsmouth or Winchester.―Lukas, September 2015

Good place for direction Brighton, theres a pub across the road, so on friday after 6PM, bit problem, cause drunk people are trying to help you :D You can just walk direction south with a sign. There suppose to be a gas station after big roundabout.. not sure, get car before.―Junkiee, July 2015

We were dropped here by our previous ride. He used to be an hitchiker and told us this was the best spot to go to Brighton. In less than 10 minutes we got a ride.―Anonymous, March 2015

Me and my girlfriend wanted to go to Brighton and within ten minutes we were offered a ride to a more hitchikable spot, closer to M23―The Barman, March 2015

Pretty bad for direction Ashford/London/Brighton - most people stay in town.―ICOS, October 2014

Awesome view, but the cars are still pretty fast and a lot of lorries block 'your' lane most of the time, so the cars on the other lanes can't see you or pull over. Also a lot of nasty exhaust fumes, because the hill is quite steep. You won't get a ride straight to Brighton, you have to go over London.

Good spot to hitch. There's a traffic light before so people aren't driving too fast to read sign, and there's a bus stop soon after they can pull over in.A lot of offers for Brighton. I took a lift to Eastbourne even though I was wanting to get to Dover. Got lucky after though :)

Had a few requests here trying to get to Dover, although most people were heading to Brighton as it was a sunny Friday.People will offer to drop you off closer to the M23 at least.

Good spot if you want to head north towards Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. Funnels main road traffic from Lewes and Brighton so always lots of potential people. Use the bus stop as gives people a chance to stop.―Anonymous, September 2013

best bet for hitching west from brighton. Don't bother with the layby further along the A27, you might get a lift but generally traffic's too fast. Just off the roundabout there's room for another car to pass one that stops for you.―Anonymous, March 2013

This is actually westbound ;-) - anyway, it's a good spot to get towards Brighton, Portsmouth, Gatwick, Heathrow, possibly Bristol, but NOT Birmingham or anywhere north of London.rating: 3/5

To get to Clacket Lane Service Station from London get a train to Bromley (you can use an Oyster card: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14836.aspx), then bus 246 (timetable here: http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/246Sum.htm)Ask the driver to tell you when you get to Pilgrims Lane, then walk down Pilgrims Lane and Pilgrims Way to Clacket Lane Services. You can see where you're going on a map here: http://www.motorwayservices.info/clacket_lane_services_m25/googlemap Where it says "Clacket Wood" is the service station. There is also a street view of this area on google maps.
Clacket Lane is an excellent place to hitch to Brighton (Westbound) or Dover (Eastbound) and also fairly good for most other directions as it's a busy station. Best thing is to stand outside the main doors into the station and ask everyone that comes out if they are going your way ("excuse me, are you by any chance going to Bighton?")
To get from one side to the other walk down the country lane to the back of the station until you get to the bridge and cross to the other side (couple of km)

Hopefully I have marked this spot right! To get to Brighton: Get the 109 bus from Brixton and get off when the bus starts going a different way from the 'Brighton' signs. This spot is on the M23, next to a row of shops with space for parking outside (great for people to pull into!) It's opposite a big pub too.rating: 4/5

It doesn't look like a great place as there's not much room to pull in but I've hitched twice from here and never waited more than a few mins. Good for getting to Brighton as it's just before the motorway (M23). Get the bus to Redhill and get off when you see the flyover.
