Easy ride, if I need to reach Glasgow/Edinburgh or even further down to England (sometimes lucky to reach destination by only one car). Or stand on opposite side of the road, if heading to Oban/Fort William.rating: 5/5, wait: 5 min, ride: 132 km ↘

It's a complicated spot for HH because the cars have space to edge one side... Very important to have a Sing !!!, I wait just 7 minutes with a sing to Edinburgh.rating: 5/5, wait: 7 min

Not the safest HH spot, but still good towards Edinburgh or Glasgow. Just walk a little bit outwards from the roundabout. Got a ride to Edinburgh after 5 minutes! AdrianB―Anonymous, August 2019

For going into Edinburgh, there is nowhere for cars to stop. Only option looks like bus stop, and anything but traffic for South Queensferry has to be in an outer lane so they are not going to have time to change lanes to get to bus stop. Maybe possible to hitchhike from roads leading to roundabout further up, but still not great, and there were roadworks making it harder when I was there recently.―River, September 2016

After 3 hours of walking from the center of Edinburgh holding a sign saying 'A1 South' when we stopped here we had a lift in around 5 mins. Closer to the A1 the better.―Anonymous, January 2015

Good spot to hitchhike towards Edinburgh if you visited the Dalwhinnie distillery. You catch all the cars from the A889, because they are still slow and even the cars from A9 can stop here.If you're walking from Dalwhinnie village hold up a sign if any car passes you and you can get a lift before you even get to this spot.

A spot towards Ullapool. Just after the gas station. The cars can stop on the small road. It's hard to say if this spot is good or bad, because cars can take you all the way to Edinburgh or leave you in the middle of nowhere.―Anonymous, August 2014

Nice spot. Cars are slow and there is a bus stop. Cars towards Edinburgh usually go this way, but most of the drivers don't go directly to Edi. May be better to go to Glenrothes first and then try to hitchhike to Edi.―Anonymous, May 2014

hitched here as a pair of guys twice, heading to edinburgh both times - waited 20 mins in the day, more linke 45-50 in the dark (6-7pm) but you catch all the traffic out of stirling as well as the service station.―Anonymous, March 2013

heading SOUTH from here with a sign (for edinburgh or fife) is a better idea than trying to hitch from Broxden roundabout at the start of the M90. But if you don't have a sign you may have to refuse lifts from people headed for Glasgow/stirling―Anonymous, March 2013

Best spot to hitch north from edinburgh, done it about 50 times so far! No need for a sign either, though only accept lifts going at least as far as the other side of the bridge (where there's a large layby)―PurpleKing, March 2013

Would be good during week time for M8 East (that is Stirling and Edinburgh). Better locations are at the end of Sauchiehall, where St. George's Road joins M8, and the end of Garscube road.―Anonymous, February 2013

Not so many cars passing here but after 15 - 20 min one car parked for me. He took me all the way down to Newcastle. I was left here by another person from Edinburgh―Gustavobretz, January 2013
