Solo Femme wheelchair user. Decent spot for hitching out of Southport towards Liverpool, can get multiple busses to woodvale area, then it's a short walk. There are traffic lights which slow down about 50% of traffic, some people turn down to avoid the traffic lights, but it's rare, there is plenty of space and the turn after the lights allows drivers to think about it and pull in if they want (that's what happend for me).

Stood at the entrance to the petrol station as all cars have to go past to exit the services. Got two stops in under 5 minutes, our ride took us all the way to Liverpool. One wheelchair user and a man.

Great spot to get into wales from liverpool or chester

Read about on hitchwiki. It’s a junction and one way takes you onto the M28, one way on smaller roads to Ormskirk. I flittered about between the two but eventually got a lift on the smaller road to Ormskirk… however I ended up getting stuck here as these little villages inbetween Liverpool and Preston are pretty hard to hitchhike out of. Equally, I’m not sure if cars can actually pull over on the M28 road, and it is most definitely illegal to stand there. So all in all, not a great spot, if you want to hitchhike north out of Liverpool your best bet honestly is just getting the X2 bus to Preston and hitchhiking onto the M6 out of Preston it’s way more straightforward.

Did nothing but sit at the rocks and thumb throughout the morning. Got offers for Coventry (traveller with an RV), Liverpool (truck driver) and one other slowdown, but none towards the continent until an older lady offered me a lift to Dover. Took it as it was getting boring…

A truck driver leant out the window and shouted “(something)(something) Livuhpeewl”. I couldn’t understand through the thick scouse accent. He might’ve been going to Liverpool. Along with every other driver for the next three hours. I abandoned my Edinburgh sign as the sun was setting and finally thumbed a lift to Glasgow before I gave up hope

Good spot for getting lifts north towards Liverpool. Terrible for lifts to south Wales, very few people are traveling that way from this service

A really good spot with most of the people going to either Manchester or Liverpool, we prolly just weren't that lucky :D

Large newly built services with a tons of cars parking but most of them being families. We were trying to get to Liverpool from Sheffield through Leeds and a lady took us to a nice services between Leeds and Manchester

I've used this spot twice, both on a Saturday morning. You can very easily catch a ride to Burtonwood services from here, or all the way to Liverpool or Manchester. Recommend a sign saying M62, and either Liverpool or Manchester, but if you're going to Manchester and get offered a right to Burtonwood services take it, you can get to Manchester quite easily from there.

This is the Burtonwood stop, the place your looking for, if your coming out of Liverpool and heading North or South.

I waited here for an hour to go south to Liverpool ! It's not the best place but it works

Depends where you're trying to get to Avoid if you're trying to get North of Manchester! - go back to Sandbach and then up. Ok for getting lifts into Manchester, sometimes liverpool or toward Leeds.

Good spot from Liverpool to Wales. Take a train or bus to Hooton, and walk 15-20 minutes. Do not waste your time at the petrol station or the church - walk PAST those places - this junction is more visible and has more space for drivers to stop. Good spot for going to Liverpool or Manchester (except when there's a football crowd), but you'll be hard pressed finding anything going further south.
