was asking people exiting the rest stop bit and soon got a lift to London (though I could've gone all the way to Dover)

I ran to this spot right after the ferry arrived, everyone is driving super slow and there's space for up to a van to stop for you here, had a sign for london but that was pure ambition; I think the spot's prolly shit if you're not here right after a ferry came in

asked around the car park, lorry park and thumbed at the exit of services for a lift to London. took us a while but eventually some electricians took us separately in 2 vans to Borehamwood. I seem to remember it not being the busiest of services, so be patient!

not good but not the worst. most people going to eurotunnel, so was tricky to find a lift towards London. I seem to remember us being kicked out from the shell so we had to ask around at the services proper, and a dude took us to Maidenhead services

seemed to be the best spot heading london direction. after a medium wait a lovely guy took us to Folkestone. anything was better than being stuck in Dover!

Best spot heading out of stroud south cos youve filtered a lot of local traffic by this point. If you can get a ride to the glider cafe then youre sorted towards ciren, swindon or london.

Got picked up quicksticks. 11 AM on a tuesday. Taken all the way to kingston in london by a delivery driver.

First car asked for Ghent. As I have a friend there who picked up the phone in bed...perfect. Had been a long day's hitch from London on little sleep :-)

Got a ride to London!

Kept asking people if they were going to London, some people going the other direction or Manchester. Could not find a ride. Tried going out of the city but also could not get a ride there.

Tried to go to London. One guy stopped after around an hour when I was making my sign and said he could dropped me near London but he will come back in 10 mins as he had to drop something off. He never came back after nearly 2 hour I gave up. Looks like a good place for cars to stop but maybe I was unlucky that day.

hit or miss I suppose. asking around for lifts to london or bristol generally unsuccessful. most truckers are in the trucker lounge, which, unless you came on board the ferry with one, you won't be able to enter. otherwise, cause it was a late afternoon ferry, most passengers were either staying in dover or somewhere, or lived in Kent... so duh get the early ferry

All London spots are a bit naff, this one got me out to reading somewhat quickly

Awful if you're not going straight into London. Had a sign saying M25 S and waited 2 hours before walking into town to get a train to Maidstone. Cars are going quite fast but the hard shoulder is big, 1 car and 1 truck stopped to offer me lifts further along the road or into London.

Heading to Europe, had a sign saying London. Good spot opposite the gas station, lots of traffic, very visible, space to stop. Got a lift in 15 minutes with a car heading into London. Got off in Slough - bad decision! Should have got off at Reading services.

Heading to Europe, got a lift in 30 minutes with a sign saying London. Car was leaving the M4 before Reading services so I got off at Membury. Good spot, extra lane for cars to pull over safely.

I didn’t wait a lot it’s true but nobody was going to London sadly :/. But a busy service station and can walk to take a bus to huntingdon easely.

It took me quite a while to find a truck going past London towards Dover, but with a bit of luck, you can do it easily. It's a big rest stop on both sides, so it's not hard to find a car going anywhere.
