Waited quite a bit here, since most cars weren't going far. I took a ride to a pie shop in Sheffield and met many other travelers there that took me all the way to mount Arthur.rating: 3/5, wait: 40 min 👍, ride: 16 km ↖

Everyone I spoke to was going North so it was really tricky. I waited by the exit but it wasn’t busy enough for the cars to be stopped so no one pulled over. Tried the same at the exit of the car park with no luck. I approached people at the benches by the food hall and most were going North, or there was one just not interested in giving a lift! Of those who were going North they were very lovely and wished me the best of luck getting to my destination and said they would have been happy to help if I was going the opposite way. My final destination was Peterborough. Finally I met a lovely woman and her two children who offered me a lift to Sheffield and I ended my hitching from there and got a train. Not sure what I could have done differently here. It seemed like an unlucky day.rating: 2/5, wait: 70 min 💬, ride: 79 km ↓

After 1 hour of waiting at the eastbound exit with a "M1" sign two cars stopped at the same time: one going to Luton and another to Sheffield.―Moryc, August 2016

Go to Sheffield Parkway for all routes except Manchester. This spot is not brilliant, but persevere and you'll get a ride. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffieldrating: 3/5

Petrol station on the way to Manchester. If it doesn't work, then anywhere along the A57 Manchester Road is worth trying. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffieldrating: 4/5

Advantages: picks up a lot of southbound traffic (including freight) from North Chesterfield and South Sheffield.Disadvantages: gets very muddy in wet weather; drivers will only stop at a red light or when there is no heavy traffic.
