Great spot to get to Pogradec or the Albanian Macedonian border in Qafë Thanë. Before we even wrote "Ohrid" on the cardboard two cars stopped. We turned them away because the drivers wanted money. After we wrote our destination on the cardboard the second or third car stopped and took us to Qafë Thanë border crossing.

Waited in the middle of the merging right lane with my thumb up. Few cars when I was there but friendly and the first one that stopped after 10 minutes got me to Stugra in Macedonia. There’s a café nearby if necessary

I waited in front of the last shop. Nice owner. The road is slightly uphill and before a turn so cars don’t go too fast and can stop on the side. My ride got me to Qukës, where I got a ride easily to Macedonia.

the SH36 gets unbelievably remote (and picturesque) past this point. there might be 20 cars per day on some days, so at the first opportunity I flagged down a car. a good guy, a hunter, took me up into the mountains, we stopped at his cousin's cattle shed then he dropped me on the hill overlooking qafe murre. walked to kacni

there's pretty much zilch traffic in these parts, so if you want to get to some remote village take any opportunity you get. a confused monolingual policeman took me to the petrol station in zenisht then organised a lift to Lis for me. so lucky

not a busy road the one up to shishtavec, but the Albanians are incredible people so flag down any vehicle which comes and ask where they're going. an almost full car took me to Oreček, a beautiful inaccessible village high in the mountains, in October

on this road you need to flag down the driver if you want to make it into the mountains. a nice Italian hydro worker dropped me by his station so I had more work to do...

Took me a long time to get onto a car. At first I had a “north Macedonia” sign but hard to read and the cars were driving pretty fast, signalling they didn’t go that far. After a while I ditched the sign and got picked up in 5 min to Librazhd. One man, 20s.

Waited right before the gas station so that cars could pull over easily. Had a sign reading “Elbasan/North Macedonia”. Took me a while (an hour and a half) to find a driver to Elbasan. I also tried the second roundabout right before the highway but turned back because the cars were driving too fast. Also, easily accessible from the airport so it’s possible to rest and use the restrooms.

Very good spot directly next to the gas station. Main road towards Tirana and you’re also catching the traffic going there coming from the roundabout. 2 guys with a sign „Tiranë“. Traffic was going very slow, cause there was some sort of construction going on at the road, so you got a good visiblity and also some shadow. We were taken after 1 hour by a guy who drove us all the way to the Center of Tirana and even took some shortcuts to avoid traffic and to make sure that we were even faster than the Google Maps was saying :)

There's no construction side anymore. The cars running fast. I really don't know why someone thought it's a good idea to stop there and let everyone behind him hitting hard the brakes. Anyway, we appreciate the friendly driver! 2 people with sign

No Shade WiFi and water from friendly campsite Alot of local traffic to thermals If you get stuck here Donnas Campsite is a lovely place and people from there might take you the next morning 1male 1 female 11am Tuesday

Me and my friend were trying to get to Vlore, we had a sign Vlore and Lushnje. The guy that stopped us was going to Fier and then he decided in the car that he will take us to the Vlore. Good spot for hitchhiking i think, long road, good space for cars to stop and cars are not going very fast. 👍🏻

As good as it can get, main highway between Shkoder and Tirana, cannot have plenty of shops and places to eat if you need a break, lots of cars at all times

Waited for 4 hours in the evening before deciding to call it quits and another hour and a half in the morning, had to take a bus as no one stopped for that long

Was walking towards the bridge and a man just stopped and asked where I am going, most of traffic from here is gonna be going towards Milot and Tirana/Shkodër, if they are not going the right way, just ask to be taken to Milot. Gas station up the road has more traffic and is on the main highway, if your luck is lacking here.

Good for catching drivers going straight and those out of Theth. Around 11am there seemed to be many passenger vans and private cars leaving Theth. I thumbed for 5 seconds and an Albanian family picked me up (they even woke up their boy sleeping on the back seat to make room for me!!). We stopped for coffee and strawberry-picking on the way. They were driving to Shkodër and dropped me off at the SH1/SH21 intersection outside of Koplik for me to continue on to Podgorica

still the best spot to get from koper in south directiom, unfortunately the driver didnt want to make a roadtrip to albania with us so he tool us atleast to pula.

Can‘t really recommend if you want to get to the border/Albania - Try at the roundabout down the road instead. Was dropped of here after I was told that it will be easy to get a next ride here from the guys who brought me here. Got a sign with „AL“ and „Shkadar“ and tried for about half an hour by directly asking people at the gas station with nobody going anywhere else than Ulcinj itself or towards the other direction to Bar or even willing to take me. The gas station was very full though, but workers were super Slow. Sun was absolutly brutal with about 40 degrees hot air so I could just stand in a small shadow from a gas station sign at the edge of the street but unlucky for me some big ass travel busses decided to somehow block the entry of the gasstation and the street so cars has to go slowly around them and couldnt really see me anymore. (Even when thats not the case, you better go to the gasstation itself or before or After it, cause directly Next to it people can’t pull over cause its locked of with some sort of barriers.) Decided to Walk towards the roundabout more south at the street to catch more people actually going to Albania/Shköder - worked way better :)

Ideally placed to get out of Podgorica, towards Albania. I stood right after the roundabout, there was room for the cars to pull over and even some shade from the road sign. I had a sign reading “Albania”. Had to wait quite a bit but going to Tirane that was worth the wait.

Very good spot towards Budva/Bar or if you are on your way to Albania! Right after the gas station and before the beginning of the tunnel, lots of space for cars to pull off easily. Was taken after 3 minutes my a Bosnian couple going towards Petrovacna between Budva and Bar :) (Late afternoon of a sunny monday in the summer - single male on the way to Albania with a sign „AL“ and another saying „Bar“)

Quite good spot, you got some shadow and are located right after the roundabout with cars possibly going in the direction of Ulcinje/Albania. Despite that there was somehow apparently not soo many traffic to Albania -lot of local license plates, and people turning into the parking lot to go shopping. Sign with AL/Shkadar - collected two middlefingers with that :) (the majority of people in that part of Montenegro don’t seem to like Albania the most). Was waiting for around 1 hour, until getting taken by some french family turning in from the parking lot on to the street and going to Ulcinj :) (Eventhough I thought people would go via the shortcut (R-29 road) to go from Bar to the Albanian border it seems like the majority is going the longer way through Ulcinj, so you maybe will be more successfull with a „Ulcinj“ sign)

Probably the best spot to Shkodër/the Albanian border, but I was still waiting some time, cause somehow nobody stopped. 2 cars offered to take me to the border for 10€ though. A bit of shadow if you stand directly behind the roundabout, otherwise you standing in the brutal sun :) Good space to pull over, cause there is a small shop at the road, where people stop to buy something to drunk or to Go to the bakery/fruit shop at the other side of the road. Was given some water by some locals, which were also waiting for some sort of local bus there :) After waiting for over an hour with no success, I just asked one of the cars, which stopped at the small shop if they maybe drive to Shkodër, and for my lucky suprise they Did :) 2 very friendly Albanians from Shköder, drove to the border, walked over without even getting my passport checked and switched cars there (he got 2 - one for each country, to skip the line at the border). They let me out at the center of Shköder after stopping at quite some stores on the way, to buy all possible attachments for water tubes that probably exist in whole of Albania - very nice :)

I was lucky to have a car to Albania here, there is no much cars but you can speak to people and I think it's better in Greece because they're afraid of hitchhiking. The two girl form the gas station are so nice, they offered me a bottle of water :)

Most people will go to Albania/Skhöder I tried at the exit of the town but no space ro stop and no shade. At the roundabout people might not notice you but shade and shops nearby. Got a ride from People going to Tirana to my Hostel in Skhöder. 1m Sunday 10AM

Long wait no pick up. People stare u down while driving? Strange, worst place in Albania for hitchhiking so far for me

Very good Spot to go to Albania. Went the from Bar Train Station 20 minutes walk. Stood the with a sign to Ulcinj and after 15-20 two guys from Albania, were taking us directly to Durres, so we were really glad 10/10 would recommend!
