Cars ride basically only to Geghard and Garni, so if you want to hitchhike there, it's ideal.(Hitchhiked with friend)

Lots of traffic, and the stoplights at the crossroads slow cars down, which helps. It wasn’t hard to get a ride to Sevan. Overall, a good spot.rating: 5/5, wait: 10 min, ride: 62 km ↗

Theoretically a good spot to Gyumri and Ashtarak I think. Unfortunately I realized way to late inti the ride that this is not a group of friends but a shared taxi. It did not say taxi anywhere. Driver acted like people I hitched with, so I assumed no need to make the money issue clear. You should…. Anyway in the end it was 1.500 Dram so 3,40€ roughly.rating: 4/5, wait: 10 min, ride: 101 km ↖

Kadjaran is a small town that everyone crosses on the way from Kapan to Meghri, Iran and opposite. If you are going north, find a car going to Kapan and take the bus number 5 to the eastern end of the city, where the road intersection goes left to Yerevan. I had a young guy offering me coffee, taking me to the next village, waiting with me for the Kadjaran-Kapan bus and then finding a friend of his to drive me there.rating: 5/5, wait: 10 min 👍, ride: 20 km ↗

Best spot from Meghri to north. If a local wants to take you here (Lehvaz village intersection) from Meghri, then accept! There are people leaving the village, there's space for trucks to stop. A covered bus stop against sun or rain. Also dusty blackberries in september. A spanish cyclist going south stopped for conversation and got a local white Lada stopping for me after 2 hours i was waiting :D Elders took me have lunch at their roulotte by a very twisty part of the road, then i hitchhiked with one of them to Kadjaranrating: 5/5, wait: 120 min 👍, ride: 30 km ↑

Very good spot if you are arriving from south (Ararat province) and you wanna skip the traffic of Yerevan on your way west - Echmiadzin, Armavir, Gyumri. You'll also skip the airport area and the need of taking buses to reach western suburbs. Mind that these western cities are industrialized, so people drive for money more than elsewhere.I got offers to Masis until a guy took me to Hayanist.

As of today, they say that hitchhikers can only go to Meghri and Agarak. They can't go to Tsav and come back. If you like to speak with locals or fellow travelers then you can find a ride from Agarak to Tsav or Nrnadzor. I did not and i trust situation will change.rating: 3/5, ride: 31 km ↗

Arriving here from central Armenia is easy and fun - check the spot in Areni. Leaving to anywhere up north can take long time! I did it 2 years ago from Iran and got stuck in Lehvaz village of Meghri, where a farmer gave me a couch and a truck took me to Kapan in the morning. I did it again during a long exploration of the country this week and got a ride to Meghri after 2 hours, waited 2 hours in the evening, camped and waited 6 hours in the morning. I also walked up to Lehvaz, it is a better spot than Meghri. It was already my 60th day in Armenia, been to all directions except of remote villages in Syunik and northwest. So i can say Agarak is hard to leave, unless you speak Farsi or Russian so you can approach drivers easily.
Kapan is easy to leave. I waited 5 minutes. Good luck

Come here by metro to Shengavit or Garegin and jump on the bus 6, 51, 55 or 55w - check more direct options from the city center to Karach market on app A2B Yerevan transport. 100amd each ride.I accepted the second offer to Artashat as it was getting dark and the guy dropped me at his market on the main road. Another guy took me to one more market+ cheap bbq restaurant (they call them bistro) where the owner spared a grilled potato lavaş with me. Stand at the crossroad where the cars accelerate into the M2 to Meghri.

Super spot. 4 colourful wanderers, we camped in Areni floodgate and came here at 11am brought by a friend's car to find a direct ride to Iran. After 5 minutes playing music and singing by smiley food vendors, two armenian trucks stopped for us and drove all the way to Agarak, which border i really missed since 2 years ago.We had signs to Meghri but they were really useless, as everyone would understand we're going as much south as possible. I'm in Samuel Hostel in Agarak, Iran will see me again in winter, going back to Georgia tomorrow!

Overwhelming city, lots of attentions, people willing to interact and help. 2 different aged groups of men wanted to give me money within one hour, a man in the cultural center next to "No problem hotel" drove me to Soran park when i asked for camping spot. English speaking girl at the café over there gave me cheese at 10pm. Chinari monastery was not allowed me to climb from the village bus stop.Hitchhiking in from Chambarak was fun and easy (last man gifted a Holy Bible), hitchhiking out was complicated. Road west to Ijevan was closed, so you need to pass Tavush and Aygehovit! No one picked me up and i walked uphill across all Tavush village. There a group of picnicking men gave me bread and natural vegetables after sunset, asked me if i wanted free hotel. Finally, once i woke up at the upper bus stop and waited for minibus to Ijevan 9:30am 1000amd, eng-speak lady gave me fruits.

Take the bus there, you can check it on G Maps. Its best to go to Armenia because it has no inner city traffic. Literally took me 1 minute. Lots of space for the driver and they are still slow due to a traffic light a few meters before the stop. Sign to Yerevan got me to Marneuli.rating: 5/5, wait: 1 min, ride: 25 km ↙

Wonderful view, calm border with almost only trucks. Came from Kars, got a truck ride in Çildir, walked to the gas station where the tir parking guys do speak Turkish + Georgian so they can help you. Only 3 cars in a hour so better to ask truck drivers! Got a ride by a tractor carrying hay they took me to collect more hay uphill and showed me the first village, while a fourth car of dutch tourists filmed us from behind.REMINDER * if you go to Tbilisi, trucks drive the Akhaltsikhe-Borjomi-Kashuri way as the Tsalka route is not allowed to them. So you can first go to Ninontsminda and then hitch to Tbilisi or Armenia.
Btw the view is priceless and makes you wanna stay for hours

The Khor Virap (Armenian: , meaning "deep pit" or "deep well") is an Armenian Apostolic Church monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Artashat, Ararat Province. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos.Khor Virap's notability as a monastery and pilgrimage site is attributed to the fact that Grigor Lusavorich, who later became Saint Gregory the Illuminator, was initially imprisoned here for 14 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia. Saint Gregory subsequently became the king's religious mentor, and they led the proselytizing activity in the country. In the year 301, Armenia was the first country in the world to be declared a Christian nation. A chapel was initially built in 642 AD at the site of Kirat Virap by Nerses III the Builder as a mark of veneration to Saint Gregory. Over the centuries, it was repeatedly rebuilt. In 1662, the larger chapel known as the "St. Astvatsatsin" (Holy Mother of God) was built around the ruins of the old chapel, the monastery, the refectory and the cells of the monks. Now, regular Church services are held in this church. It is probably the most visited pilgrimage site in Armenia.
