hitchhiked from the edge of gyumri to tbilisi over many rides, the waiting time was always very short, however many drivers will decline you a ride because they're not going all the way because they don't understand that hitchhiking is about getting many smaller rides, so you may need to explain this to them

Got a ride with an Iranian truck driver to Vayk, I think most cars take the other route via Goris though.

Cars ride basically only to Geghard and Garni, so if you want to hitchhike there, it's ideal. (Hitchhiked with friend)

Lots of traffic, and the stoplights at the crossroads slow cars down, which helps. It wasn’t hard to get a ride to Sevan. Overall, a good spot.

Theoretically a good spot to Gyumri and Ashtarak I think. Unfortunately I realized way to late inti the ride that this is not a group of friends but a shared taxi. It did not say taxi anywhere. Driver acted like people I hitched with, so I assumed no need to make the money issue clear. You should…. Anyway in the end it was 1.500 Dram so 3,40€ roughly.

Got dropped off here unfortunately but had my Yerevan sign. Would have probably worked without. Walk a bit till you find a good spot for yourself, there is a lot of space for cars to stop anywhere. Took me 5 minutes

Kadjaran is a small town that everyone crosses on the way from Kapan to Meghri, Iran and opposite. If you are going north, find a car going to Kapan and take the bus number 5 to the eastern end of the city, where the road intersection goes left to Yerevan. I had a young guy offering me coffee, taking me to the next village, waiting with me for the Kadjaran-Kapan bus and then finding a friend of his to drive me there.

Take the bus there, you can check it on G Maps. Its best to go to Armenia because it has no inner city traffic. Literally took me 1 minute. Lots of space for the driver and they are still slow due to a traffic light a few meters before the stop. Sign to Yerevan got me to Marneuli.

Arriving here from central Armenia is easy and fun - check the spot in Areni. Leaving to anywhere up north can take long time! I did it 2 years ago from Iran and got stuck in Lehvaz village of Meghri, where a farmer gave me a couch and a truck took me to Kapan in the morning. I did it again during a long exploration of the country this week and got a ride to Meghri after 2 hours, waited 2 hours in the evening, camped and waited 6 hours in the morning. I also walked up to Lehvaz, it is a better spot than Meghri. It was already my 60th day in Armenia, been to all directions except of remote villages in Syunik and northwest. So i can say Agarak is hard to leave, unless you speak Farsi or Russian so you can approach drivers easily. Kapan is easy to leave. I waited 5 minutes. Good luck

Great spot for heading towards Armenia or any of the villages up the road. Not much traffic, but very broad road and easy for cars to stop, which many will do eagerly (as well as passersby being very curious about your plans).

Wonderful view, calm border with almost only trucks. Came from Kars, got a truck ride in Çildir, walked to the gas station where the tir parking guys do speak Turkish + Georgian so they can help you. Only 3 cars in a hour so better to ask truck drivers! Got a ride by a tractor carrying hay they took me to collect more hay uphill and showed me the first village, while a fourth car of dutch tourists filmed us from behind. REMINDER * if you go to Tbilisi, trucks drive the Akhaltsikhe-Borjomi-Kashuri way as the Tsalka route is not allowed to them. So you can first go to Ninontsminda and then hitch to Tbilisi or Armenia. Btw the view is priceless and makes you wanna stay for hours

Picked up immediately direction Armenia, cars going slowly at roundpoint, nice shoulder to pull over and stop. Use yandexmaps to see which bus will leave you here from Tbilisi.

The Khor Virap (Armenian: , meaning "deep pit" or "deep well") is an Armenian Apostolic Church monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Artashat, Ararat Province. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos. Khor Virap's notability as a monastery and pilgrimage site is attributed to the fact that Grigor Lusavorich, who later became Saint Gregory the Illuminator, was initially imprisoned here for 14 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia. Saint Gregory subsequently became the king's religious mentor, and they led the proselytizing activity in the country. In the year 301, Armenia was the first country in the world to be declared a Christian nation. A chapel was initially built in 642 AD at the site of Kirat Virap by Nerses III the Builder as a mark of veneration to Saint Gregory. Over the centuries, it was repeatedly rebuilt. In 1662, the larger chapel known as the "St. Astvatsatsin" (Holy Mother of God) was built around the ruins of the old chapel, the monastery, the refectory and the cells of the monks. Now, regular Church services are held in this church. It is probably the most visited pilgrimage site in Armenia.

take bus 44, after the bus makes enters the settlement, we cross the highway to hike from there to Armenia. There are some vans along the road selling fruits. Vehicles stop by and slow down some traffic

The main road from Stepanakert to Armenia starts here. A policecar might stand here to check the speed of the cars passing, but this won't stop them from stopping

When going to Armenia, it might be a good idea to find a ride before Sadakhlo, as most people will feel uneasy if a foreign-looking, strange person with a backpack wants to cross a border with them. Still, with some patience, you will always find a ride :)
