There is enough space for cars to pull over, but ended up waiting two hours for a ride to Brno. I recommend making a sign to Brno

There is enough room on the side of the road so cars don’t have problem to stop. I was hh on sunday morning and there was enough trafic

A lot of people go in all directions so bit difficult to find the right person. Asked a lot of people, but not many had place or wanted to take us, but some business men took us with them after some talking

No space to stop but I thumbed it and 6 cars stopped into the road during the hour, but when I asked if they where going "a few km towards innsbruck" they basically accelerated away the bastards. Even the next exit where they were all going would be better, and some of them turned out to be going to towns 30km away. Eventually asked if they where going to brunnenfeld (a few km away) and got a ride maybe 20km (to a really shit gas station ughhhhhhhh).

One busstop and a lightly used junction with ok space, speed and visibility. 3 rides declined as they where going north. Eventually offered ride to bludenz. Another short distance ugh.

Small place to stop just before tunnel. Not great but traffic lights slow the traffic and better than the heavily used busstops. Found a ride tonnot very far away in 15 mins the driver stopped in the road.

Bus lane thumbing. Offered ride to Munich but took it just to the centre of feldkirch.

Leaving Graz seems to be very difficult. All the spots on this road seem to be a gamble. A local hitchhiker told me he used to ask directly to the customers at the McDonald's nearby. This place (just after the bridge) has very little place for cars to stop, but I suppose it is the best compromise instead of the gas stations before. Mostly local traffic (Graz suburbs and Leoben licence plates).

Before a level crossing there is space to pull over on the cerb and a slow traffic. Had a schweiz sign and got a ride to Switzerland in 20 mins. English speaking driver.

Although this spot seems hard to get to at first (you have to take a bus, walk and then jump a fence), it is worth it. There was a lot of truckers resting, asked two croatian guys where they were going and they took me right to the slovenia-croatia border.

Found a nice woman to take us to prague

At first sight this place look hopleless dirty and dodgy I thought I never gonna get a ride from this gas station so with little expectations I tried to get a ride from a night bus station that is next to the shell gastation... Worked like charm in 20 mins straight ride to Graz

Friday 10am dead as hell wanted to go to graz and avoid Vienna altogether , but after an our of few cars I gladly accepted a ride to Vienna city center

Actually a good place for hitchhiking (more than enough place for stopping), but many unfriendly, inconsiderate, and stingy people. A nice Belgian Family picked me up.

Guy took me to Austria from here A lot of German/Austrian cars

Honestly shocked that others say that this spot is shit for Budapest and good for Vienna — I had exactly the opposite experience hitchhiking to Austria! Three hours waiting with a sign for ‘Graz’ (I was on my way to Zagreb), and the only offer in that direction that I got was to a town just over the border. Yet three people stopped to ask if going to Budapest would help, and two more people stopped to apologize that they were going to Budapest! I had banked on people going to Vienna making the connection that Vienna is on the way to Graz, but as hour three closed I made a sign for Vienna, and it was STILL another hour. There is no shade at the on-ramp and it gets hot. The traffic is a steady trickle but honestly not that much. I would try another spot next time, no question. Lots of space in the surrounding area to camp unseen, though, if this spot does serve you. I walked here from the end of the tram line at night to cross the highway with less traffic and start early (not that the early start helped!), and was at least well rested for the frustration.

There passes enough cars. Asked some people but not many wanted to take us or didn’t go far, but a really friendly couple of the Netherlands took us to Rothenburg Germany and took us the next day again to Linz Austria, they even bought us food and gave 20 euros

Hitchhiked from here to get to Villach, Ana amazing spot where the only direction is Austria so you can get to Villach quite quick. Lovely man from Kosovo drove me straight to the station.

Enough traffic, but almost nobody stops. Many unfriendly people. Bavaria is much better for hitchhiking compared to Austria.

Lot of locals but nice people, a lot pulled over and try to get us on the way. It was late so we decided to only accept the ones going to Austria. We had A LOT A LOT of luck and a guy took us directly to Innsbruck even if he was not heading this way at all.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. As soon as we got out of a car the A22 Police pulled over and took our ID; saying hitchicking was not allowed even on the gas station. They stayed for one hour and a half on station to make sure that we didn’t try again. We had to take a taxi to the next city (very expensive) and start again from there. Be careful if you take this autostrada! We think that you might get a ride to the North/Austria but there is not a lot of traffic because it’s a little station.

I walked here for 4 hours from the centre, because other spots did not exist before. But the spot was perfect. After 10 minutes a Slovak took me to Ljubljana and from there I got 5 minutes later directly a ride across Austria to my home

A lot of cars going into the highway from here. I had a sign that said 'austria' and after an hour or so a car stopped. There is plenty of space for the cars to stop in 2 different parkings. The spot is right before the highway sign that says no autostop, so its legal ;) there was a police car closer to the toll booth but they didnt see me or, if they did, they didnt care.

I asked directly for austria, didnt want to hitch on the highway in italy so up north, they tend to be more strict. Most cars were not going on the highway, but finally one took me after a while there. Did not ask trucks!

We've got taken to Dubrovnik after little time by a Croatian coming from Austria. Car smelled like a marijuana and he was kinds tripping but overall a nice guy.

Good Spot, maybe the best to get to the west of Austria or the south of Germany.

We got there on Saturday around 6 p.m. Two hours later, only a few cars had arrived. The drivers said they were heading to Austria/Slovenia. It was dark after 8 p.m., so we went to pitch our tent (you have to climb the hill at the station; it's very safe there). In the morning, we hitchhiked in about an hour, but traffic was a bit heavier. You can charge your phone at the point! I stayed there because I knew it could be worse at the border. was okay. I started very early and the station was still quiet empty. I stood in front of the pertrolstation entrance with a sign saying Austria and Budapest and talked to people as well. Long time waiting what so ever

Some guy stopped the minute I put my thumb up but wasn't in my direction. Had a sign for Austria. A woman stopped 18 min later and took me to spittal

Undoubtedly a good spot to go to Austria or Ljubljana, as the first four cars that stopped were going to one of these. The is the bus stop for Jesenice hospital, and surprisingly most of the cars that stopped were the ones coming from the hospital road, not the traffic lights. Eventually, Danno gave me a lift to Mojstrana, dropping me right at the front door of my hostel, and giving me some wonderful hiking recommendations whilst I was there! (Notably, Slap Peričnik in the winter!!)

A lot of people from Slovenia work in Austria. We (2) asked a guy with a Slovenian license plate and took us directly to gas station next to Maribor which was good spot for our next ride to Ljubljana.
