This place is way too close to Innsbruck to be useful, I had to spend the night sleeping outside to get anywhere. Pretty much nobody wanted to take me, not even talk to me. Locals or gas station workers will offer to take you to next town so you can get a train, but I only got that because I spoke German to them and had a sign up, if you didn't speak German I doubt you'd have that luck. Only reason it is not 1 star is because of the gas station, and the proximity to the train station. Other than that - avoid, try to get a ride straight to the border from Innsbruck.

Better spot, people exiting after shopping through here, more local rides but gets you out of the city

Might be luckier in warmer months, I just froze my ass off while trying to get to the border. 90% of the traffic is Innsbruck as the mall is nearby.

No traffic, maybe 1car every 4mins, mostly to italy. Very expensive gas, so noone stops

dont know how long it took, but no one wanted to take us even towards insbruck, so we had to hitchike to bludenz then landeck, then imst and then to inssbruck mcdonalds

waited whole evening no one stopped, in the morning another few hours until someone atleast gave us a ride towards tovereto (we wanted to go to Verona)

Before we waited at the exit from the restplace, but unsuccessfully. Then we tried this place and got ride to the center of the Linz. We stood on the crossroads. We were visible and cars can stop on the joining line. It is not perfect, but not that bad.

We were standing on the roundabout. I would not say it was the greatest position, but the cars were going slow and there was a possible place to stop the car on the road leaving for highway. Noone were angry on us and early on someone took us.

Cars are leaving village so they are going 50-70 kph, but there is a straight road so we were visible and cars can stop on the crossroad to the side. Maybe the nearby petrol station would be better, but we got ride easily.

Good spot, cars are in the village going slower and there is a plenty time for drivers to spot you. Second car took us it it was local policeman/rescuer.

Got picked up on a bus station by two Czech young guys. They took us to the Alps to our destination. The place is good. We tried it at night the day before, but the place is totally dark, not a single lamp was on and after 20:00 no one stopped.

Short walk out of the city center, but gets you on the road towards Italy, traffic past here is quite often South Tyroleans coming back from Austria, so good spot to get into Italy.

In a cute little village, tons of traffic westwards, big parts of it local but easy to reach Lienz/nearby towns. Has a covered bus stop on one of the sides.

amstetten, only downside to this spot is that you always got the sun in your eyes if you're hitching before mid day

We had a sign Brno and Czech, in an hour we got a car to Breclav and the driver gave us 10 euros

Super good spot, I'm sure you could get a longer ride too but I just took the first ride and went for a pizza in the driver's home village

Ideal spot if you're heading towards Vienna. We (couple f/m) caught a ride there on a late Sunday afternoon within five minutes. Nice visibility with a traffic light just before, plus a low-frequented bus stop making it easy for people to stop. There seems to be quite some traffic also towards other directions (e.g. south or southwest), so using a sign seems essential here.

Quite busy rest area with most people obviously heading to Vienna, but with a bit of patience you may catch a ride west (A1), east (A4) or north (A5). We (couple) managed to find a ride straight to Bratislava after one hour on a Sunday evening.

On a attendu 1h, aucune voiture ne s’est arrêtée. On s’est déplacées à un autre point un peu plus loin près du Lidl où une voiture nous a pris 30 min plus tard, mais sur une courte distance jusqu’à une aire d’autoroute pour qu’on puisse aller à Munich.

Not many cars but I found easily ride to Germany. I asked around and guy from Bulgaria gave me a ride. Cool guy and nice stories

Good if you're going to Vienna and want to look for trucks, and it's not sunday - as on sundays trucks are prohibited from travelling through Austria. Not many cars here, so had to use the sign on the road. By miracle found a couple going to Italy, but the place seems difficult if trucks are not an option.

Good spot. Lotsss of slow moving traffic going in every direction with room to pull. Just a matter of time. Got a young Austrian couple that took me up to north Austria from an 'austria' sign

Even though this spot seems like a headache with all of the cars and directions it's super easy to hitch a ride by the side of the highway to Austria or further, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected

Towards Dravograd/Slovenia, medium traffic, there's usually cars around the parking area 50 meters down the road so I'd hitch around this road entrance, loads of locals going between Austria and Slovenia, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected

Huge rest area, great for Austria, a bit worse but still very good for other countries, real potential for long distances, however I'd recommend here to be earlier in the morning or during the daytime, not so many long distance drivers during the evening, mostly locals going to mcdonalds etc, wait times of 20-60 minutes expected

Not a lot of traffic in the direction of Austria (we were there from 10:30 am to 1pm and maybe around 10 cars every 10 minutes) and actively holding out our sign and asking people for 1 hour. If you ask for the highway A2 a lot more people are willing to take you. But not ideal to go all the way to Vienna in one ride.

much more worth being careful at an autogrill on the highway than holding a sign/thumb off the highway. got a ride through all of austria in a semi, but dropped us off at the last gas station before the austria/germany border because he was worried about bringing us, so we respectfully got off

After 30min of assuming and thumbing we got a ride to the border with Austria.

A lot of tourists going back to Poland, Slovakia, Czechia and Austria. Lot of space for cars to stop. Also the gas station that is close has very nice staff. They gave me cardboard and a marker to write my sign.

At first we (young couple) tried for hour and a half standing at the exit before entering the highway with a sign "Salzburg" and "Austria" but had no luck. Most cars here are going to České Budějovice. As soon as we changed the sign to "Budějovice" a sweet guy picked us up. He recommended us a good drop off spot past Budějovice and offered to take us there - a bus station in Kaplice nádraží.

Nice view, friendly people, very expensive coffee and still a shitty spot to go to Slovenia. Not as many cars as expected and lots of lots of people going to Germany (maybe due to the time - end of German summer holiday), prepared to sleep here but got lucky and was picked up by a nice guy on his way to Turkey after 20 minutes or so. But all in all: try this spot if you want to go to Germany or northern Austria, don’t try it for any other direction

As the other review says. I tried to go west (Switzerland), but it didn’t work at all. Most of the cars are going to Munich or further south to Austria. I gave up eventually and got picked up quickly after I changed my sign to Munich

golden gas station for going north (Austria, Slovakia, Czechia, Poland), many cars of various nationalities, after asking around a couple took us all the way to Znojmo (close to Brno, CZ), definitely recommend

I don't know what anyone said, but most of the vehicles are heading specifically to Germany and Austria—very few to Italy, and the ones that do go are packed. I've been here since yesterday evening, but it's been completely useless; I just hope I make it to Padua.

Me and my friend wanted to hitchhike from there to Vienna on a Monday afternoon. Surprisingly, many cars were local and no one wanted to take us further on even if they went to austria. Dont recommend.

A family of 3 heading to Austria agreed to drop us off at our hotel in Schaam. Had a fun conversation about Power rangers for the whole trip with an 8 year old in German (and I don't speak German lol)

The spot is good bot not perfect. Most people stay in Czechia but some also go further to Austria
