Two guys from tutoia picked us up and drove us to the beach. We explained what we’re doing, looking for dinner and then someone to stick our tent/hammocks. They showed us all their recommendations for cheap meals and then took us to a beach bar he knew and he came in with us to ask if we could stick our hammocks in the bar for the night. Everyone was super kind, were met with hospitality from everyyyyone in tutoia, getting offered free showers and then coffee and tapioca… too much!! Loved it here

Got a lift fairly shortly in a truck that was going to fortaleza. We were going to tutoia for the night, but for some reason he did say he wouldn’t have taken us all the way anyway

Not the best, most cars taking the exit into town or not going far, but not too long before someone stopped who was going to the airport in fortaleza, so dropped us off on the highway along the way, at least 100km south. We stopped here for espetinhas and the guy let us stick our hammocks outside his restaurant

Not many cars stopping, but not too long before one took us a little way along

We were here in a crazy rainstorm, which I do not recomend … no shelter at all. And still no one stopped for us. Our stuff was soaked. When the rain began to clear though a truck stopped and took us to jijoca do jericocoara. Maybe a better spot in the sun🌞

This spot was not really good for us. Not many people stopped except a few going to Barra grande and one truck driver who told us not a single car would stop for us… eventually took a lift to the junction for Barra grande and hitched from there

Got picked up by second car. We were going east and he kindly suggested that we’d be better off at the gas station in camurupim (the other direction) than at the “triangulo” junction at the top of the road to barra grande. This was wroooong! At the gas station everyone was going to Barra grande, so ended up getting a lift BACK to the triangulo and then on. Which took a long time. So would recommend, if going east to Céara, just get out at the main road and hitch from the roadside there!

People not going far. A few going to macapá which is a beach not that far away. Probs worth it to take their lifts a bit of the way up the road if your trying to get further east, but we ended up getting picked up by a couple going to Barra grande who offered us a villa to stay in for the night… so this spot ended up working out for us!!!

Not an amazing spot, people not that interested in stopping. But eventually got picked up saying we were going to Luis correia. We were looking for somewhere to camp and he ended up taking us to his town of coquiero where he knew a beach bar with 24 hour security. They directed us to another beach barraca which was shut on weekdays (saldanha) were we could stick our hammocks for one night. It was the best beach spot ever

Not a good spot for Luis correia. Just walk up the road north for 20 mins to get to the better road for LC

Not a great spot (obviously) but we got a bit stranded in the centre of parnaiba trying to get to luis correia so thought we’d try our luck. Somehow we got picked up by actually the nicest man ever … who was late for a work meeting but was so excited to meet us he drove us a fair way down the same road on the other side of the city for luis correia.

Not a great spot but fairly quickly a guy stopped who I don’t think was actually leaving town but agreed to take us to Paulino Neves (we said we were going to Tutoia)

They weren’t particularly friendly at this gas station… but they did let us stick our tent under a tinyyyy bit of shelter round the back of the gas station. Also free showers and coffee so not bad.
We got a lift to barrarinhas almost immediately by chatting to some guys who were a tourist guides in lencois park.

Not a lot of cars passing but must have been almost the first private car that stopped for us, local tourists heading to the park for the day

We were here whilst it was POURING with rain. Big rainstorm, didn’t help us. We couldn’t really stand outside the shelter so only asked the people who were stopping for gas, if they were going the way of Sao Luis/lencois national park. They weren’t. Once it stopped raining went out to the entrance of the gas station to get the cars on the road too and a trucker stopped for us almost immediately. Defo worth being on the roadside not inside the gas station here.

Someone started chatting to us as we put our stuff down here and before the convo was over a trucker pulled over and took us to Santa Ines (260km)

Had lunch in the little churrasqueria nearby (which was great!) and a family there must have learned what we were doing. So by the time we got to the spot they ran after us and said they would take us with them to the town at the maranhao border

Waited at a few different spots along this bit of road and no luck. Everyone seems to be staying in the city and v few people stop. Better off walking to the junction further up the road

Going to santo amaro/lencois park: got a lift from here to gas station, they let us put our tent under a tiny bit of shelter for the night, then next morning crossed road and got a lift straight into santo amaro 👍

Got here to go through Alligator Alley.
Little traffic, but might be due to the road works, at the time.
Might have more chance at the previous ramp (Golden Gate Parkway)
A VTC driver going back to Miami picked me up, telling me she was going through this road multiple times a day.
Got offered Fuji Water and listening to her daughter's music, an upcoming famous singer in Brazil!

We got there by taxi with the app "Ubiz car Brazil" for 16R$. There are not so many cars but they all go in the right direction and don't go that fast. There is no signal but "bar do limão" might have Wi-Fi.

I'm From Brazil, got a ride from here in 10 minutes with a trucker to cuzco.
The only thing that i think is good to point is that, while i was there, an old man was by my side. He was desperated because i was hitchhiking, saying that it wasn't safe.
On the other hand, trucker said that that it was common for him to take hitchhickers there.
Take your on conclusions.
Mine is, i would do that again
To get in this place i asked a man on the street where was the road to cuzco and he indicated me a mini van that would take me here. it costs 0,60 cents.
Transportantion in Peru is extremely cheap.

BRAZIL/ARGENTINA border: very easy to hitchhike here. We did it in both directions and didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes to get a ride to Puerto Iguazu or Foz do Iguacu.

Desk TIMS. This position receives truck toward the Northeast, Southeast, South and other regions of Brazil.
To get at the gas station: If you are in the city of Serra should go to the Terminal de Carapina and take the bus 540 (Terminal de Campo Grande) and ask to get off at Gas Station TIMS.
If in Cariacica or Viana you should go to the Terminal de Campo Grande and take the bus 540 (Terminal de Carapina).
If you are on another City of Grande Vitria Region (Vila Velha and Vitria) just go to Terminal de Carapina and take the bus mentioned above.
