Stayed at the end of the gas station. A guy stopped after not a long time and took me all the way to burgas.

Asked to the first truck that i saw for a lift to sofia, he said yes. Kind gentlemen

Best spot to exit Asenovgrad towards Plovdiv, Sofia etc

Got here by hh, and after two minutes one guy took us to the border !

We got around 4 cars which stopped to take us (to Skopje to Parnik), but we were three people so got a car to Kustendil

Bad spot. Very few cars which go to gas station, most of them are not friendly tbh. Quite all of the cars are full with people or with their stuff. Right after gas station sometimes there chill border police, we got lucky to be with them the whole day. They tell not to go to the exit of gas station because it’s dangerous. Fortunately after around 5-6 hours of waiting time at around 10 pm we got a lift to Sofia.

Waited there, were token by two border police girls, who drove to their work

There was a truck standing there, and we simply asked if it was going to Sofia, and he took us. A Turk. We ate and drank tea near the truck.

All the traffic is to the town, no pathways to the city so you are stuck at the gas station, upside is there is a gas station to stock up and hide away, but that's about it, try getting to other side of town instead if heading towards Macedonia.

Got a truck to Istanbul for 3 people within 5 min

Waited around 30 minutes Not the best stop, because cars are going fast and there is only small exit for them to stop But got a car to plowdiw

Perfect spot, there are shops nearby, the Tram 4 stop is just across the street, really easy to get out of the city towards Macedonia

Waited around 10 min For a car to Burgas

A nice guy from Smolyan took me to an amazing campsite near a lake, with a view on the mountains, where I spent the night. The spot is ok to do hh.

I did stop on the other side of the road because otherwise cars didn’t see me, not really a good spot but I didn’t have the choice. After 40min the owner of the restaurant took me to the next village.

I spent the day to do some hikes with a nice guy who took me directly, then continued my way to the Rodopes

Very good place to find a car to Plovdiv

Easy area to approach people, right on the highway towards Sofia, but sadly tons of local traffic so gotta filter it out quite a lot. Still got me to where I need to, so not that bad.

Lots of traffic, both local and intercity, tons of trucks too, and long off ramp from the Metro shop, so cannot get better. Trees provide a good amount of shade in the afternoon too!

This is the exact spot I used to get out of Istanbul towards Bulgaria, there isn’t much room to stop, but drivers merge onto the highway slowly, and theres a steady flow of cars

Got dropped off here by a local saying I could walk to Greece, which was not true, so I had to wait for a guy to drive me to the other side. I was very lucky to be picked up by a very sweet German guy travelling all the way to Gernany, although I had a intention to go to Bulgaria, so we spent two days together in Greece and Samothrace, after which he dropped me off at a road going to Bulgaria.

Not that much space for cars but somehow it works. Guy from Bulgaria picked me up after 5-10 minutes of waiting.

All the traffic at this point is crossing the border, now that both Romania and Bulgaria are in Schengen, no border checks either, and the cars are going pretty slow and do stop to ask where you're going. Be aware that at the time of my crossing, the bridge was getting renovated, and only one way was open, might be difficult to cross on foot if you wanted to, and might make the waiting times longer. But you can walk up to people and ask to take you!

Lol didn't even had the time to write my sign (used the thumb while few cars were passing by) that a car with two Macedonians asked me where I go : "South, North Macedonia...Bulgaria?" "Come in!". Indirect ride to Skopje because they invited me at a generous grill restaurant! Had no problem to pass me trough the border, even though I was heavily controlled

Lots of space to pull over, definitely possible to get a ride directly to Bulgaria as many cars have Bulgarian plates. With my BG sign I got taken to Giurgiu, the driver offered to take me to the bridge toll booth but I got off at the Kaufland because I needed food instead.

Unbelievably bad, not traffic towards Bulgaria but if you have to it’s doable, don’t try to go farther than KP. Stand all the way on the highway that way there is a chance for the highway people to stop. Eventually a guy stopped on the curve for me. Only saw like 20 cars over 45 mins

Do not recommend, cars are going fast and not wanting to stop to go towards Bulgaria, that being said there isn’t a better spot so I agree with the other commenter saying eventually you will be picked up. Use a sign that says KP

Easy to get to kumanov and closer to the Bulgaria border

Good spot by the poll station to get a ride to Sofia/Bulgaria. There were a few policemen doing controls but they weren’t interested in us and didn’t stop us. You can even reach this spot by foot (that’s what we did) from Dimitrovgrad by hitchhiking to a spot on the local road nearby and then there’s a path to the toll station. (check out the map) There was a fence around the station but it had big holes you could claim through and toll station employees and police didn’t mind.

Good spot, found a ride to Bulgaria in seconds (he was going all the way to Burgas).

Good spot because a lot of traffic was at the start (5pm) but then dropped very fast (6pm). Was standing with a sign bulgaria/k.palanka. Maybe a bit far saying signs but there is no other place kinda to go there on that road. Also maybe i was not that lucky because i was trying kinda late in the evening. But eventually very nice truck driver who was paying a toll(stramge because all others had the autamic one) took me all the way to sofia.

A lot of space, not a lot of traffic, but seems easy. Got taken by a guy that used to hitchhike in the socialist times of Bulgaria. He got me to Kjustendil to a petrol station and immediately found me a ride to Sofia.

Kind of the only decent spot towards Bulgaria, police spend a lot of time here just as locals for coffee. I've been trying for 3h until night with the little traffic from the petrol station (police was there) and 4h straight on the highway the next morning with a sign BG - СРФИЯ. Most cars were completely full, I left with a big beer box under my legs and my backpack on my knees, that was the only room available in the car, but I made it to Sofia.

Still possible to walk bridge from Romania to Bulgaria as of december '23, but I hitched a lift to Ruse here.

Realy good Spot to get a Ride outside of the City to califat (Border of bulgaria). 2 other locals Guys also tryed to hitchhike but 2 young Guys took us. They drove like crazy and IT was realy funny.

A lot of space for hitchhiking just after the toll booth. Lot of trucks go to Bulgaria, I got the ride to Niš after 5-6 mins

there is often a long cue of trucks waiting for the toll (since bulgaria is not a schengen country) and you can walk along the cue with your sign and find a pretty long ride

This is the spot you can use to get out of Turkey to Bulgaria. My experience in October 2021 was rewarding. I came to the border gate and the officials said "you can't walk" (it's been like that for years) and when I stood up few hundreds metres before, soldiers from Jandarma told me to get backwards and try asking at/inside restaurants. This doesn't work if you, like me, look Middle Eastern so the truck drivers will ignore you thinking you're irregular. So I took a dolmuş back to the pinned gas station and waited 2 hours (could be much less) until a Turkish man took me with him to casino in Svilengrad, offered me the entrance and a private hotel bedroom.
