Decent spot, late in the evening traffic was scarce but eventually a trucker picked me up and drove me to the Baie-Comeau area. July 2025.

Going west. This seems like a good spot but its very far from town/food/water so be ready. Traffic is scarce and bugs are bad as with most of Labrador. July 2025.

You could try your luck asking at the gas station I was unlucky, a decent amount of campers pull in here. July 2025.

Not a bad spot to wait, close to town and also room for cars to pull over they don't have much time to see you though after they make the turn in front of you. Make sure you have a big sign. July 2025.

Anywhere along this stretch is a good spot to wait traffic is low so they can just stop on the road no problem make sure you start early in the morning though, the bugs were bad but I brought a bug net and long clothing so they were manageable make sure you do the same. June 2025.

Just walking with my thumb out, got a ride to L'Anse-au-Clair pretty quickly, was late in the evening so low traffic. Make sure you try to get a ride before or on the ferry, the good part of this ferry was they let me off first but nobody from the ferry picked me up. Bring lots of sun, bug, and wind protection also lots of water and food if you plan on hitching through Labrador. July 2025.

Not a lot of space and time for the drivers to stop. Upside is you can hitch multiple ways at once. Eventually got a ride into stephenville. Bring lots of Water and food. June 2025.

I stood at the bottom of the first hill, going north. Not the best spot in the world since the cars are going fast around the corner and don't have much time to stop. If your on this stretch make sure you start early so you can catch people heading to work. Bring lots of water and sun protection. June 2025.

Good spot low traffic, cars can see you from far away also room to pull over for them. If I had to do it again I would start walking north and just have my thumb out while I walk beats standing on the side of the road for hours like me. Bring lots of water and food. June 2025.

Bring lots of water and sun protection. You will be waiting for hours out in the sun with no protection other than with what you bring or clouds. June 2025.

Going North, decent spot you can hitch the on ramp and the highway at the same time depending on the traffic. lots of stores nearby and what not. If you can try to get a ride before or on the ferry because they let the foot passengers off last so you can't really catch any of the traffic off the ferry since they've all left by the time you get off the boat. June 2025.

Walking south with my thumb out. I wouldn't really waste my time standing still since traffic is low. Got picked up eventually and driven all the way to St barbe. July 2025.

Good Spot. Heading North towards the viking place minimal traffic but the locals always help you out with rides.

If you don't ask people on the ferry because you fell asleep (like me), this is your best shot of getting a ride. This is where the trans canada begins again, the shuttle bus can take you fairly close. Try not to miss it though (like me), cause that will decrease your chances. If you miss all the cars coming off the ferry you'll have to wait til the next one comes. You can stand anywhere in the curve, the shoulder is very wide. Got a ride within 20 minutes.

I started my cross-Canada hitchhike out of this spot. As soon as I stood out on the road with my thumb I got a ride.

shittiest place in all of canada for hitching. it had a bad reputation. almost better to walk down the highway a couple ks until you are on a flatter, straighter section. you will get a ride but it will take a couple days. bring warm clothes

No idea about hitching from here into Canada, though...

Hitching west towards Vancouver. All the traffic going Trans Canada has to stop there at traffic lights, so it's a good spot. Also wide shoulders to pull over.
And there's a lot of gas stations and dining places around, you can go there and ask people.

Hitching south-east to North Pole, Delta Junction, Tok, Valdez, Canada.
A lot of traffic, mostly locals, but some go out of Fairbanks. Good place to pull over, cars are slow after traffic lights and can see you.

Quite a neat spot, though I had to wait a bit over an hour, which is longer than Quebec average for me. Maybe beacuse I started on the morning of Canada Day.
Easy to get to, $3 bus ride from the centre of Montreal. Great place to pull over, long straight stretch to get noticed from far, as though it was meant for hitching. Not so much traffic though.

I got stuck here for really long (around 3 hours), trying to hitch west to Trans Canada Highway. Empty road, especially in the evening (had luck next morning), most people going from Port Rexton turn to Trinity.

2 of us waited about 45 minutes. Cars are fast, there's no much place to stop, but still after enough time someone will pull over. Whole Trans-Canada traffic goes here.

With a sign for "CANADA", plenty of friendly cars stopped, though most were only going as far as Kingston. After under an hour got a ride to just south of Albany.

If going to Abbotsford Canada, unlikely you'll get a ride over the boarder, but having a sign saying you're Canadian, may help

Stand here with a sign "T.C.H." to go west. Make sure that your driver drops you ON the Trans-Canada Highway (there's a gas station just after Pitts Memorial Hwy joins TCH)

Stood here 1.5 days. Its called "Highway of Tears" because some 15 girls have been gone missing in the last few years while Hitchhiking. Finaly got taken by an American who had no idea. Worst spot in Canada to HH!

I wanted to rich Canada and it seemed to be quite good place to go out of the town. I just had to take the subway 1 until the end and walk 5 minutes. I waited there on hour.

This is very close to Canada's Wonderland. At the gates to the park they throw out insane amounts of food from anyone trying to enter the park gates with their own food. Shameful practice, but possibly a goldmine for dumpster diving? Anyone know? Leave a comment. I will check it out myself in August.

All over Atlantic Canada, Irving/Circle-K Big Stop truck stops are great places to hitch, as they are frequented by drivers going a long way. Amenities typically include public showers, free wifi, and a covered area outside the door where you can stand with a sign while staying out of the rain. Staff never bothered me even if I had not bought anything.
At this particular Irving I waited over an hour but then got a ride all the way to Charlottetown, PEI (my destination).
