Probably got lucky on this one. Short waiting time, I've only seen a few trucks and one car going this way. While driving, almost no traffic passed us before we reached Kamloops. Dave, a truck driver, stopped and brought me all the way to Vancouver, despite not necessarily being allowed. He offered me lunch and when he stopped at night, he offered me to sleep in his truck. In the morning, he waited for me and dropped me close to a train stop so I could keep going downtown

Entrance of the Icefields Pkwy, cars need a pass to go through this road, it forces them to slow down at the booth and there is room to pull over. It is very discouraged to get dropped off along the way, as there is nothing and no signals in 90% during the drive. In winter, there is also not many cars and many are full or not going all the way to Jasper. In my first hour, I got two drivers who stopped, but I had to decline the ride. Be also prepared to deal with the cold or try your luck at Lake Louise instead ! After an hour, I went to the booth and asked if I was allowed to hitchhike just after the entrance, mostly because it was sunnier on this side and people would stop in front of me to purchase their ticket. The lady accepted and end up talking about to Julia, my driver. It probably helped convinced her. Julia is another adventurer and heart surgeon who planned to go all the way to Jasper while making a few stops to take pictures (Very recommended, a lot of scenic places on the road!) I was her first hitchhiker and we became friends along the way.

The bride is easy to access by foot if you stopped for the night in Golden. (there's a cheap hostel there) Got my ride from Monique as I just got on the bridge. Spotting the avalanche risks for the railway, she was able to tell me a lot about the mountains that surrounded us along the way. She taught me a little about reading the snow on mountains and we did a few pictures as well.

First car stopped. Great roundabout with places to stop in all directions, and a few gas stations around to resupply snacks or equipment. Gordon was on his seventies but still working, on his way for a 12-hour shift as an engineer. He didn't talk a lot, but was keen to help me and show me pictures of this valley where he grew up. He does the route almost daily, chances you could catch a ride with him too !

Very long waiting time in regard of the constant traffic and the big room to stop. There is also not much ahead, so probably everyone going the same way. Got a ride finally from Dany, a native on his way home. Originally going to Fairmont, he offered to push me all the way to Radium. Told me about the valley, some traditions and legends of the surrounding tribes. Also offered to stop to take some pictures.

Took me 45 minutes to pass the border. Customs asked a bunch of questions, but they didn't check my bag. They were concerned if I had adapted gear for the cold. They also asked if I had a place to stay during my time in Canada. Saying I was couchsurfing in Vancouver and didn't have the address yet was enough (Although I had another place with a proper address and proofs that I was expected there.) I also had to show I have enough funds for the length of my stay. Probably easier to hitchhike directly at the border, but I wanted to walk and as border patrol was not the friendliest, I preferred taking my distances. Few cars passed me (On a winter morning, the traffic was more important southbound) when one finally stopped. Two young adults on their way to Cranbrook. They were nice.

Going west. This seems like a good spot but its very far from town/food/water so be ready. Traffic is scarce and bugs are bad as with most of Labrador. July 2025.

You could try your luck asking at the gas station I was unlucky, a decent amount of campers pull in here. July 2025.

Not a bad spot to wait, close to town and also room for cars to pull over they don't have much time to see you though after they make the turn in front of you. Make sure you have a big sign. July 2025.

Anywhere along this stretch is a good spot to wait traffic is low so they can just stop on the road no problem make sure you start early in the morning though, the bugs were bad but I brought a bug net and long clothing so they were manageable make sure you do the same. June 2025.

Just walking with my thumb out, got a ride to L'Anse-au-Clair pretty quickly, was late in the evening so low traffic. Make sure you try to get a ride before or on the ferry, the good part of this ferry was they let me off first but nobody from the ferry picked me up. Bring lots of sun, bug, and wind protection also lots of water and food if you plan on hitching through Labrador. July 2025.

If you don't ask people on the ferry because you fell asleep (like me), this is your best shot of getting a ride. This is where the trans canada begins again, the shuttle bus can take you fairly close. Try not to miss it though (like me), cause that will decrease your chances. If you miss all the cars coming off the ferry you'll have to wait til the next one comes. You can stand anywhere in the curve, the shoulder is very wide. Got a ride within 20 minutes.

I started my cross-Canada hitchhike out of this spot. As soon as I stood out on the road with my thumb I got a ride.

shittiest place in all of canada for hitching. it had a bad reputation. almost better to walk down the highway a couple ks until you are on a flatter, straighter section. you will get a ride but it will take a couple days. bring warm clothes

No idea about hitching from here into Canada, though...

Hitching west towards Vancouver. All the traffic going Trans Canada has to stop there at traffic lights, so it's a good spot. Also wide shoulders to pull over. And there's a lot of gas stations and dining places around, you can go there and ask people.

Hitching south-east to North Pole, Delta Junction, Tok, Valdez, Canada. A lot of traffic, mostly locals, but some go out of Fairbanks. Good place to pull over, cars are slow after traffic lights and can see you.

Quite a neat spot, though I had to wait a bit over an hour, which is longer than Quebec average for me. Maybe beacuse I started on the morning of Canada Day. Easy to get to, $3 bus ride from the centre of Montreal. Great place to pull over, long straight stretch to get noticed from far, as though it was meant for hitching. Not so much traffic though.

I got stuck here for really long (around 3 hours), trying to hitch west to Trans Canada Highway. Empty road, especially in the evening (had luck next morning), most people going from Port Rexton turn to Trinity.

2 of us waited about 45 minutes. Cars are fast, there's no much place to stop, but still after enough time someone will pull over. Whole Trans-Canada traffic goes here.

If going to Abbotsford Canada, unlikely you'll get a ride over the boarder, but having a sign saying you're Canadian, may help

Stand here with a sign "T.C.H." to go west. Make sure that your driver drops you ON the Trans-Canada Highway (there's a gas station just after Pitts Memorial Hwy joins TCH)

Stood here 1.5 days. Its called "Highway of Tears" because some 15 girls have been gone missing in the last few years while Hitchhiking. Finaly got taken by an American who had no idea. Worst spot in Canada to HH!

I wanted to rich Canada and it seemed to be quite good place to go out of the town. I just had to take the subway 1 until the end and walk 5 minutes. I waited there on hour.

This is very close to Canada's Wonderland. At the gates to the park they throw out insane amounts of food from anyone trying to enter the park gates with their own food. Shameful practice, but possibly a goldmine for dumpster diving? Anyone know? Leave a comment. I will check it out myself in August.
