Directions : Shanxi, Henan, Shandong, Beijing, Terracotta Army, Huashan. It took us some time to figure out this spot, we would have left in 5 minutes if we had understood that you can use the Terracotta Army traffic to your advantage no matter where you go. If you come in the morning, there are many cars going there. You can ask them to drop you on the first service station 7km down the road. There, you will have more long-distance traffic. Our goal was to go to Pingyao, someone heading to Shandong quickly picked us up at that service station and brought us to a service station near Huashan, where the road splits between Shanxi and Henan directions. So this spot is also really convenient if you are trying to go to the Terracotta Army or to Mount Hua !

Lots of traffic, everybody goes south. Once you resch here, you’ve made it to guangzhou. People were so friendly and interested. Layout of the station is compact but lot’s of parking for trucks too. Took less than 5min. Great spot!

Big station with bad layout. Lots of people and traffic but you won’t be able to cover even 50% by standing on one door. It took me 30min and some asking around to catch a truck driver. Trashed cabin but took me far.

Toll station. It seemed like the last resort but even this failed. I don't think it's possible to go from CQ to East/South via this route. Two cars stopped but they went to CQ. Friendly people but wrong direction. We gave up and took the train. What a wasted day - anyways, the next day will be better :)

Mid station. Not much traffic but at least the stores were open. Some shade and people. Nobody was very useful tbh. Going to CQ to South/East through this route seems bad. Better try Guiyang/Guilin. A english teacher picked us up and got us off the highway.

This map is outdated. There is a service area. Most stores are closed, very little traffic and it took us forever to catch a ride. Maybe bad luck?

После вокзала вернулся к ним и сказал, что нет денег на билет и могу ли я подсесть к проезжающей мимо машине хотя бы для пересечения границы до Нур-жолы. Они отправили в направлении указанном у точки там, где заезжают машины автобусы. Там Я обратился к полицейским с такой же просьбой. Они поговорили с водителем автобуса и посадили меня бесплатно. Когда получил штамп Казахстана, водитель посадил меня и высадил уже со стороны границы Казахстана , а сам поехал в Алматы.

Big station, lots of traffic - as always. Took less then 10min to find a great family to take us to Chengdu. They were super frienldy and their 7yr old granddaughter talked for hours. Kinda cool to see how chinese kids use AI.

Friendly staff and we met any people we saw at the station prior. The fruit sellerrs gave us a bunch of very strange looking fruits for free. The staff of the station organized a ride for us. We waited around 30min before getting picked up by a old strange family. They took us further then planned. The highway from here on is veeeery pretty. Worth the ride!!

Great station, lots of traffic and people go far because there are no major cities between here and Chengdu. We used a sign and attracted bunch of attention. Highly recommended.

Я проснулся в 6:00 чтобы найти водителя который едет пораньше, очень много грузовиков на этой станции. Машин уже поменьше. Достаточно просторно можно поставить палатку где угодно. По пути встречаются несколько сервисных зон, на которых можно также найти грузовик. Выезжали на рассвете и проезжали через очень живописные и красивые места рядом с озером. Дорога занимает два-три часа от этой станции на грузовике со средней скоростью 80 км/ч. Рано утром видел только грузовые машины, обычных автомобилей на дороге не было. Меня довезли прямо до международного логистического центра Хоргоса.

На этой станции было мало машин и грузовиков в это время, скорее всего большинство едет на такие станции как Wutai service area или Sailimuhu Service Area или Guozigou Service Area, чтобы переночевать и утром проехать всего 2-3 часа до Хоргоса. Лишь некоторые водители машин направлялись в сторону Хоргоса. Сервисная зона просторная можно поставить палатку.

Был совсем немного времени на станции. Спрашивал грузовиков, но они все уже имели партнёра в кабине. Поэтому начал спрашивать автомобили и один водитель, как оказалось со мной проходил вместе паспортный контроль, после Xiaocaohu Service Area и поэтому он был уверен что я безопасен и как увидел, что я направляюсь в одну с ним сторону отвёз меня до Kuytun Service Area. Грузовиков и машин тут достаточно много было.

Очень хорошая точка, много грузовиков, легковых машин, здесь есть отличный туалет (все кабинки только на корточках), скоро сказали будет душ. В дополнительной локации есть отличная кухня, очень доброжелательны. Где кухня туалет похуже. Много людей спят в палатках, ночью движение не прекращается, но становится тише. Так как я продолжаю путь с предыдущим водителем про направления водителей сказать не могу. Лучше, если вы НЕ проезжаете дальше Урумчи, а водитель едет в Урумчи, остановиться на сервисной зоне Yanhu Service Area, а не Xiaocaohu Service Area, как рекомендовала мне нейросеть. Потому что после Xiaocaohu Service Area идёт полицейский пост. И я подозреваю, что водители об этом знают, и мало кто останавливается на этой сервисной зоне. После полицейского поста открывается замечательный вид на горы а потом на зелёные степи. Не могу рекомендовать, кого лучше выбрать быстрого водителя или чуть медлительного грузовика, но сейчас идёт ремонт дороги мы пробили колесо по дороге и останавливались на обочине менять.

Большая сервисная зона, удалось рано утром найти машину, которая едет до Урумчи. Спрашивал как грузовиков, так и машины, чаще всего на кузове было написано 2 человека в кабине. А там уже было 2 человека внутри, поэтому мне отказывали. Все же рекомендую стопить грузовые машины, которые идут на запад, потому что идут они далеко, и виды по пути очень красивы, в легковой машине не вполной мере доступны виды вокруг. Дорога сильно загружена, все лихачат. После Чжанье станции сильно переполнены, может и получится там застопить кого-то.

Очень красивая станция, был на ней мало времени. Много машин на трассе G30 направляются в направлении Урумчи по новому шелковому пути. Много домов на колесах, много грузовиков и машин. Просторная станция для большого числа машин.

Много водителей на этой станции едут в сторону Синин, некоторые дальнобойщики едут в Хотан. Мало кто едет в сторону Увэй отсюда. Попалась пара с ребенком с номером 新, они смогли отвезти меня на красивую сервисную зону на трассе G30. Станция мне не понравилась, хоть и много кто сюда заезжает. Много заполненных машин.

Утром долго собирался, поэтому основной поток машин пропустил. Долго спрашивал машины, но те были полными, нашелся один водитель, который готов был отвезти до Синина, но мне было нужно только до Ланчжоу, поэтому высадил меня на финальной станции, так как отсюда идёт дорога на трассу G30 по словам водителя. Станция отличная, много места, туалет хороший, даже есть тайная комната из комнаты для семьи. Там я и поставил палатку.

We camped a few kilometers before the border and showed up there in the morning. A Kirghiz tour guide on his way to pick up tourists helped us through the Kirghiz border - which was smooth and friendly - and then drove us through the Kirghiz no-man's-land until the beginning of the Chinese area. This part is several kilometers long, and I don't think they'll let you walk it so my guess is that in case you're not lucky as we were, you will need to ask someone to bring you along. At the Chinese doors, we started to walk and an officer immediately stopped us. He told us to wait aside and asked a car to take us to the Chinese customs office, again a few kilometers further. We met the car again after the checks and they offered to drive us to Kashgar. If not, I guess you need to arrange the trip with a truck or a taxi drive, or maybe the Chinese officers will offer help as they were all very kind. The passport and security checks were quick and easy, no deep searches of any sort as we had heard many times. All in all, crossing there by foot without an organized trip felt totally fine and didn't cost us anything, although I think we got a bit lucky that it went so easily. Make sure to come in the morning as the two hours difference with China makes the day much shorter than it should be. We were also told that it's closed on weekend for travellers.

Lots of traffic and toll station staff. No shade and it took suprisingly long to catch a ride. Some cars stopped and asked for money (which never happend to me in over 2500km of hh in China - not sure why this is different). There is a long distance bus stop with regular busses to Shangri-La / Lijiang (if you ever wanna give up). We were not allowed to stand behind the toll gate but there is enough room (chinese stop everywhere anyways lmao) for cars to stop. It might (??) be more traffic south then north but still a good spot.

Border crossing is still only possible by bus. I hitchhiked to the border and tried to walk. They would not let me. The guards were not friendly at all. But as it is always the case in asia, there will be some very friendly locals who are happy to help. You can try to hop on a bus from right before the border but most bus drivers will want to see a ticket (which you get in zharkent for 5000 tenge). there was a lady charging 2000 tenge to help you get on the bus, which seemed to be necessary, because none of the buses wanted to take us people waiting infront of the border. granted most of them were probably full. in total you would have to pay 7000 tenge to cross from here (5000 + 2000). i don't know how but i ended up not paying anything to cross, the others told me not to worry about it. but i am guessing someone payed for me. the crossing took a long time. 2-3h i would say. it is probably smartest to hitchhike to zharkent and take the bus fron there. have fun in china<3

This is not a hitchhiking spot. This is very good park for making money by music performance - busking! Although forbidden for tourists in Taiwan, guards in the park can accept you and let you continue unbothered. Many buskers on weekends and occasionally on weekday evenings. Also ask for art villages where taiwanese tourists go at weekends, like Luojin village in Lukang township. Another great spot at the train station just few metres east of the train symbol on Google Maps - bus stop Taichung Station Dazhi N road and walk 50m south if busy) Busking in hot summer days made me book ferries to leave Taiwan to Fuzhou and slow trains to cross China. Winter can be more helpful as well as more hitchhikable.

Just stood at the highway entrance with a 河口 sign and got a ride relatively quickly. Mengzi railway station isn’t too far if you fail to get a ride and need to get out of China asap

Not sure, but I ended up paying for the ride from here (5 Euro). He commercial driver took me right to the border. There are some checkpoint on the way. They will ask you some questions and tell you that you kinda need to cross if you go further. I'm not sure if it's legally allowed to hh across those checkpoints (they are further south, before the city), but taking the commercial ride which was arranged by my last drier who took me for free, was a good idea. The border was open at 6pm (chinese time) and should be open till 10pm. Chinese side is very modern and quick, Vietnam is rather slow but works too. I really enjoyed this trip across China and can recommend it to anyone (as long as you're not bothered by the police and politics, don't close your eyes too much and always be aware of the background you're moving in)!! After soeeping here overnight me and my friend managed to catch a free ride with the buss that runs from the shukov statue to Arxan in China. The buss driver refused to accept payment as we where the first forigners to come this way according to him :)

Qhen qe got here our previous driver talked to the peopple at the industrial plant and got us a ride towards the chinese border. There are oil trucks driving all morning and evening towards china though. It is a asphalt road.

Had a sign for Wuhan (武汉), a truck driver going all the way to Henan stopped for me and gave me a ride to the last gas station before Wuhan, dinner, and recorded me saying “China number one” for his douyin

Big station and a lot of traffic - but as usual the police is not a big fan of it. I had to wait for two team leaders to come, had a 1h discussion only for them to take to the next reststop. They tried to tell me that hh is not allowed in China - just stand your ground. You can take the Metro Line 3 to the closest station and then taxi to the road left to it. From there you can hop the fence and sneak past the police. Don't worry, they will come anyways.

First couple I asked took me for 6h. They had a very comfy car and invited me to Hotpot with their friends + free accommodation. Pengzhou is a big hub for fruit and veg import/export. I had a look around the market. After getting few rides in China: 1. Don‘t use a sign - just wave 2. Talking with translation apps works good 3. The chinese are incredibly hospitable

Big toll station. Had a discussion with the police if I could stand there. Usually it‘s fine but those guys were annoying. After getting cleared I walked behind the toll gate (usually work better) but then the staff harassed me. After 30mins of discussion they understood and allowed it too. Pro Tip: Don‘t reject rides in China. They will tell you that they won‘t go towards your direction but they do. Don‘t use a sign, just wave at them. Medium traffic on a workday morning.

NO A HITCH Busses to China leave from here. You can‘t hitch the border. The last bus of the day goes at 6pm (THIS MIGHT CHANGE). It costs 5000 and tickets can be bought with card. Crossing was easy and took 2-3h (+3h time difference). Be ready to take out all metals from your bag. Good luck!

tried to hitch a ride to china, only had to wait about 5 minutes to get a lift, I think they got the destination wrong though because I was dropped off at some weird camp where they made me do a bunch of work and beat me up a lot

Can't cross border now as a pedestrian!! (as of sept 2025) Need to book a bus from China to Zharkent. 8€ and took like 3-4 hours all together (waiting for the bus to fill up and crossing the border)

Hitchhiked the Pamir Highway. It's very possible but slow and cold (early october). It took me only 5 days from Sary-Tash to Dushanbe. I didn't do much sightseeing/detours etc. Some locals and some European overlanders. After Murghab plenty of trucks from China driving to Dushanbe but they drive ~20km/h because how bad the roads are. Don't expect to make much progress in a day. Plenty of guesthouses even in small villages, iOverlander offline map is handy for that^^

Trafic flow is low, but atleast every truck driving here goes to Murgab or to the Chinese border. In our case a truck driver drove to the Chinese border! But since the pamir highway and the road is so shit, be prepared to drive for 14 hours to the China border! At one point our truck driver got tired and we had to drive the truck ourselves for over 6 hours. Good spot, got here by shared taxi which was 50 somoni from Khorog.

After 3,5 hours got only a 10km ride. After trying to hitch from the other spot we surrendered. If you plan to hitch in China anywhere else then the Tibetan areas (where locals will pick you up in no time) your best best will be truckers

First time trying to hitch in china. Only taxis stopped asking for money. I was told by locals that there's no way ill get a ride, i decided to surrender and after 4 hours of no luck i took the train to Xishuangbanna.
