Muzg kaj mi reunuiĝis post ŝia aventuro en Lai Chi Wo kaj mia vojaĝo prizorgante la katido de mia amikino Kityee, SongBill, dum ŝi vojaĝis en Butano. Poste ni irus kampadi sur ĉi tiu strando... Post kampadado malantaŭ la rubodeponejo, ĉar la strando aspektis sufiĉe malbona, ni petveturis proksime al la centro Dhama Vipassana, ĉar Muzg tie faros Vipassanan.

Post kaŝado de niaj aferoj ĉe la kampadejo Cheek Lam Chau, kie ni dormus poste, ni petveturis por preni kelkajn pliajn aferojn de la domo de nia amikino Kityee, por ke ni povu kampadi proksime al la Muzg Vipassana. Bona loko, ĉar estas enirejo por tiuj, kiuj volas vidi la digon kaj la grandan Budhon. Viro en Tesla veturigis nin al la "Festival Walk".

Tre videbla loko, ne multe da trafiko, sed sufiĉe da spaco por halti. Mi portis pezan dorsosakon, kaj Daniela, post semajno sur la tegmento de la domo de Tífani, volis kaŝi miajn aferojn proksime al la kampadejo. Unue, ĉar post la fino de la vipasana de nia amiko Muzg, ni povus kampadi tie. Due, ĉar mi iris al malgranda domo apartenanta al naturista amiko, kiu loĝis sur la insulo Lamma, kaj mi ne volis porti tunojn da aferoj. La strandoj kaj padoj sur ĉi tiu insulo estas mirindaj, kaj depende de kie vi estas, eblas fari ilin nude.

Tre amuze, mi enlasis mian amikon en la vipassanan kaj havis multe da bagaĝo, do mi ne povis grimpi ĉi tiun monteton tiel facile kaj mi petis veturon al la taksioj, kiuj revenis post lasi la homojn tie. Mi faris tion du fojojn, ĉar mi forgesis mian sakon da manĝaĵo, do mi faris du veturojn kun du taksioj kun kvin minutoj da diferenco. Aĥaĥ, mi revenis ruine malsupren laŭ la monteto tre rapide post kaŝado de miaj dorsosakoj kaj Daniela en la arbaro. Mi ankaŭ povus esti atendinta iun privatan aŭton, kiu povus veturigi min. Sed sur la strato estis iom pli da movado.

Post kampadado ĉe la "Shek Lam Chau Camping Place (tre paca, sed sen akvo proksime)" kaj lasado de mia amiko Mushky ĉe Vipassana, mi petveturis al Mui Wo (kiu estas tre internacia kaj havas publikan bibliotekon) por renkonti aliajn amikojn. Mi povus esti provinta la aŭtojn venantajn de Vipassana, sed plej multaj estis taksioj. Unu aŭto haltigis min unue kaj tuj rifuzis. Baldaŭ poste, unu kiu iris al Pui O haltis, sed ili lasis min en Mui Wo.

Ne estas tiel facile nokte; mi provis ambaŭvoje por atingi pli okupatan lokon, sed tamen daŭris 45 minutojn. Mi uzis la ŝildon "senpaga veturo", kiun mi uzis en Ĉinio, kaj ĝi funkciis kun aŭto venanta de Wu Kau Tang.

Post dormado en hazarda loko, ni trovis retejon https://www.thruhikinghk.com/wild-camping.html kun bonaj informoj pri kampadejoj kaj kampadis ĉe la strando Discovery Bay, tre multekosta kaj ŝika loko. Tie ni malkovris, ke ni estis akceptitaj viziti la vilaĝon Hakka en Lai Chi Wo. De tie ni iris al la elirejo kaj petveturis ĉe la trafikcirklo; tre malmultaj privataj veturiloj preterpasis, sed ĝi funkciis.

Quite a nice spot. Cars and trucks here seem to be heading further. Watch out as some cars go quite fast and do very dumb overtakes...

OK spot, lots of cars, they can pull over. But you're still in a populated area and rides might not get y0u too far. Heads up that the cars might be pulling over quite a bit behind you as they need to switch lanes to slow down. Ended up at a homecoming party with local Bai people :))

Mi kredas ke dum nokto tie estas plej bona ol en la benzino stacio.

En la nokto policistoj haltis kaj helpis min trovi lokon per dormi kaj lasis min dormi en la policejo mem.

Estas bona loko direkto al Hohhot, sed ne nepre gxis Pekino. La familio kontaktis min kun amikojn en Hohhot kiu helpis min tie. Kiam vi scias diri Byalalar, Dankon en Mongolalingvo, vi havos pli gxentilan reagojn.

Du knaboj helpis min kun eletrikaj bicikloj kaj poste pagins min trasporto gxis Hohhot.

En tia loko, eble ne la plaj strategia eble iomete antaŭe la policejo kaj la paspago (cxar tie komencas la autovojo kie estas ne permesata), vi p0vas petveture en ambaux direkto el Hohhot. Homo haltis iranta a alia direkto de Pekino, kaj policisto haltis kaj helpi min akiri la trajno gxis pekino kaj mi akceptis. Sed tie tute eblas ankaux petveturi Pekina direkto.

Same truck took us further down to нарын, but an excellent place to get other rides, and the Kyrgyz border itself is not too far away if you walk.

Border guards will not allow you to cross by truck, they will either put you in a military truck or you will be put on a bus heading in the same direction. Crossing the border at the arc, is done by walking, and at the Kyrgyz side you can get another truck or talk to your previous truck driver to wait for you if possible (what we did).

Only plausible place where you will get a ride is at the police checkpoint near the customs area where they check your passport or 20 km down the road at the next police checkpoint. Talk to the police officers and explain your situation, truckers are convinced that they are not allowed to take hitchhikers, but that is not the case when the police explains to them there are not going to be any problems down the road. Take a truck from here (preferably Kyrgyz) and go to the second to last border check.

Hitching a ride here is almost impossible, the border guards will put you in a taxi with other Tajik tourists. Be prepared to pay 40 Somoni.

Asked a Tajik truckdriver to take us, after I asked him where he was heading to. Russian language will be a major help.

tried to hitch a ride to china, only had to wait about 5 minutes to get a lift, I think they got the destination wrong though because I was dropped off at some weird camp where they made me do a bunch of work and beat me up a lot

Can't cross border now as a pedestrian!! (as of sept 2025) Need to book a bus from China to Zharkent. 8€ and took like 3-4 hours all together (waiting for the bus to fill up and crossing the border)

Hitchhiked the Pamir Highway. It's very possible but slow and cold (early october). It took me only 5 days from Sary-Tash to Dushanbe. I didn't do much sightseeing/detours etc. Some locals and some European overlanders. After Murghab plenty of trucks from China driving to Dushanbe but they drive ~20km/h because how bad the roads are. Don't expect to make much progress in a day. Plenty of guesthouses even in small villages, iOverlander offline map is handy for that^^

Trafic flow is low, but atleast every truck driving here goes to Murgab or to the Chinese border. In our case a truck driver drove to the Chinese border! But since the pamir highway and the road is so shit, be prepared to drive for 14 hours to the China border! At one point our truck driver got tired and we had to drive the truck ourselves for over 6 hours. Good spot, got here by shared taxi which was 50 somoni from Khorog.

After 3,5 hours got only a 10km ride. After trying to hitch from the other spot we surrendered. If you plan to hitch in China anywhere else then the Tibetan areas (where locals will pick you up in no time) your best best will be truckers

First time trying to hitch in china. Only taxis stopped asking for money. I was told by locals that there's no way ill get a ride, i decided to surrender and after 4 hours of no luck i took the train to Xishuangbanna.

Best spot to get north from LPB Cars need to slow down because of the roundabout and bad road conditions. Many trucks would go all the way to China

Coming from China, right behind the border post, many trucks are stoping for rest or gas refill. Easy to get a lift to Osh here, but be aware of the border opening times (It has a lunch break of several hours where everything stands still). Some small shops and restaurants are there to stock up on food while waiting.

Towards Zharkent. After crossing the border, just walk 15 minutes until you come to the end of tow. Traffic is very low. Unlike in China. make the money issue clear before you get in the car.

I agree, easy to walk there from the old town. Pingyao is a small town, so not much traffic, but this is China and hitchhiking is easy even with little traffic.

U can see to hitchhiking spot.This is the one i did which make sense to let people know at least u can get ride from here.try to pop on a but to while this place is a branch of high way entrance which you can try west kunming toll gate ,get there you will easily get a ride passing those place when you get dali usually it is the city downtown.most people trying to see the old town ,go with No.8 bus to get the old town. If you are going in the direction of China remember to take big supply of water as you may spend sometime waiting for the ride. There is also no place to hide from the sun !(It gets hot and there is at least 3km to the city)

To Murgab: From Sary Tash town, walk down the towards Tajikistan, the road splits at a police stop. Wait there for cars going left towards the snowy mountains. Alot of trucks from China to Tajikistan no longer go through here and hitchhiking (for free) is incredibly difficult. Even for paid transport to Murgab, waiting times are long.

Follow the road towards China for about 2km from town. Walk past an empty customs terminal to the new one. There will be alot of Chinese trucks in the morning, they stay there for an indefinite time for 'processing'. Some of them will sleep in Murgab, some go to Khorog, some go all the way to Dushanbe. They all leave around a similar time.

This might seem like a good place because of all the crossings, but it's also the spot where prostitutes (aka "china") wait for their customers. After many dirty looks I walked 500 meters up the road and was picked up quickly and the driver told me about the prostitution thing.
