Border guards will not allow you to cross by truck, they will either put you in a military truck or you will be put on a bus heading in the same direction. Crossing the border at the arc, is done by walking, and at the Kyrgyz side you can get another truck or talk to your previous truck driver to wait for you if possible (what we did).rating: 5/5, wait: 0 min 💬, ride: 6 km ↑

Only plausible place where you will get a ride is at the police checkpoint near the customs area where they check your passport or 20 km down the road at the next police checkpoint. Talk to the police officers and explain your situation, truckers are convinced that they are not allowed to take hitchhikers, but that is not the case when the police explains to them there are not going to be any problems down the road. Great spot for going south! First time hitching from there got a ride to Tagong (my friend all the way to Kangding) in literally 2 minutes by a local bus driver that gave us ride for free! We got dropped on a police checkpoint (our driver was going to Danbe and we to Dawu).The Policeman gave us noodles and helped hitched. Since all the cars had to pass the police check they were asking them if they are going to our destination and can take us. We got a ride to Dawu in 30 minutes!

Very good spot for going east of Litang. Plenty of space to pull up, it's next to some kind of Litang small monument so people often come to stop there. Lhasa is boring, and it's hard to hitchhike in Lhasa. I hitchhiked the how 317 road, Lhasa has the worst experience. If you keep going on 318 to 林芝（linzhi）the view is really amazing again. if you are not Chinese, don't take photos alone the way, especially buildings of any sorts, you may get into troublesrating: 5/5, wait: 60 min 👍, ride: 424 km →

I walked to the toll gate first, but the police politely told me to go here because cars are not allowed to stop at the toll gate. The problem here is that there is a big crossing right before the highway starts and you're standing right next to the right lane, everybody going on the highway is already on the left lines... around 100 taxis stopped and only two private cars that weren't going into my direction but offered to drive me for a huge amount of money. Generally I was quite unlucky both times I tried hitchhiking out of lanzhou from different spotsrating: 1/5, wait: 120 min 🪧

Trafic flow is low, but atleast every truck driving here goes to Murgab or to the Chinese border. In our case a truck driver drove to the Chinese border! But since the pamir highway and the road is so shit, be prepared to drive for 14 hours to the China border! At one point our truck driver got tired and we had to drive the truck ourselves for over 6 hours. Coming from China, right behind the border post, many trucks are stoping for rest or gas refill. Easy to get a lift to Osh here, but be aware of the border opening times (It has a lunch break of several hours where everything stands still). U can see to hitchhiking spot.This is the one i did which make sense to let people know at least u can get ride from here.try to pop on a but to while this place is a branch of high way entrance which you can try west kunming toll gate ,get there you will easily get a ride passing those place when you get dali usually it is the city downtown.most people trying to see the old town ,go with No.8 bus to get the old town.Good luck to all the hitchhikers in china .

To Murgab: From Sary Tash town, walk down the towards Tajikistan, the road splits at a police stop. Wait there for cars going left towards the snowy mountains. Alot of trucks from China to Tajikistan no longer go through here and hitchhiking (for free) is incredibly difficult. Even for paid transport to Murgab, waiting times are long.―Anonymous, June 2013

Follow the road towards China for about 2km from town. Walk past an empty customs terminal to the new one. There will be alot of Chinese trucks in the morning, they stay there for an indefinite time for 'processing'. Some of them will sleep in Murgab, some go to Khorog, some go all the way to Dushanbe.
