I tried to hitchhike on the road for one hour, no one stop. Then I asked at the gas station and found a car to Socoro quicklyrating: 4/5, wait: 90 min 💬, ride: 19 km ↙

Not many cars passing. Maybe one an hour or so, but all of them picked me up. Was planning to walk to Riosucio but was able to hitch it the way there in about 4 hours. Would have made it in one ride but I got unlucky and my driver had to turn around.rating: 4/5, wait: 30 min, ride: 29 km ↘

Pretty garbage spot. Not many cars passing, but if you arrive late there are plenty of wildcamping spots on the trail next to it and a restaurant nearby.rating: 2/5, wait: 45 min, ride: 26 km ↖

Tons of locals and tourists coming to and from the desert. I wasn't even trying to hitch and got offered a ride in the back of a pickup. Incredibly easy and the desert is a great place to wild camp.rating: 5/5, wait: 5 min, ride: 7 km →

Not the busiest road but busy enough. Lots of cars passing and extremely safe given the military base close by. I was picked up in this area twice, once by an off duty colonel and once by some guys in military uniforms. Incredibly friendly people. They also spoke some English. Highly recommend the town of Nilo as a camping spot as well if you need one. The PD was confused but was more than helpful.rating: 5/5, wait: 15 min, ride: 9 km ↙

Good spot near a gas station. Lots of cars, right around a corner so people are going slow and have plenty of time to decide to pick you up. Lots of truckers going to Neiva. Lots of mosquitos.rating: 5/5, wait: 20 min, ride: 101 km ↓

You're not protected from the sun and most people are just going to the next town (Villagarzón). The one time I wanted to hitchhike five kilometres down the road a truck going to Ecuador picked me up and when I wanted to hitchhike to Ecuador I had to settle for Villagarzón. Such is life.rating: 3/5, wait: 40 min 👍, ride: 18 km ↓

The easiest hitchhiking I've ever done in Colombia. Got picked up in the blink of an eye. Stand at the speed bump and wait for the magic to happen.rating: 5/5, wait: 1 min 👍, ride: 24 km →

Great place to stand if you're heading towards San Agustín or even Popayán (can't give any feedback about that though). You can drop you backpack under the roof of the restaurant if it's raining.rating: 5/5, wait: 5 min 👍, ride: 26 km ←

Great spot if you're heading to Gigante. Shade and space for cars to pull over. Stand far enough up the roads so that you can catch the cars coming from La Plata. Got picked up almost instantly.rating: 5/5, wait: 2 min 👍, ride: 13 km ↓

I walked there from the city centre but there's a local bus. Good spot, shade, cars are going slow and there is space for them to pull over. I think most people are heading towards La Plata.rating: 4/5, wait: 15 min 🪧, ride: 68 km ↙

This is the best spot for HH direction Bulgaria !!! It's not another spot better than this in my own opinion! But I hitchhiked on Sunday, very lonely gas station!!! No cars !!! No trucks !! The best way to HH is to have a sing with ***Pirot*** or ***Dimitrovdgra***HH to the border can be difficult!!! Because people is afraid about immigrants!! So, better if you look White person hahahaha I am from Colombia and I look very árabe sometimes, but still I am lucky.
The best advice is to HH from the entrance of the gas station, because also you can catch the cars who is passing on the highway, because if you stay inside the gas station! * without traffic* you can be there for hours !!!
To arrive to this gas station you can take the bus Number 4 Ang get out 2 bus stops before the end. And then walk in the highway for 15 minutes and that is ! You will see, use Google maps ! Or just walk from the center if you are too backpacker.
Remember that HH IS ABOUT LUCK!!!!

I had to walk here from the border to catch a ride, it ended up being three of us though. Once away from the border I got to Quito fast, [Blog Post](http://www.hobospirit.com/hitchhiking-from-colombia-to-ecuador/)―HoboSpirit, September 2015

Setting: We were two guys going to Cartagena. One guy looked Latin like, another one obvious foreigner. Now: This is the place where the 2nd peaje (toll collect station) is where all the cars and trucks are passing. Don't try to walk there as it is mentioned in the description of Medellin, it would take you hours! Take a bus from the final metro stop Niquia to there and tell them to drop you off at this place. There is also a Esso gas station just after that. We found it general pretty hard to get a ride and we only found someone by talking to him while filling up. Hitchhiking in Colombia is not really fun I think. We didn't make very far and had to take a bus later. This is always a good option when you get stuck somewhere as they stop wherever you stand. So you need definitely time and patience.
