We had to give up on this spot. We wanted to go to Graz (we had a sign) .There were too many croatian cars and not croatian cars were either full or were going to the opposite direction. I don't know if we were there at a bad time (10:40 - 11:40) or if it is just a bad spot but the result was the same. After that we went on to the highway and hitchhiked on the side. A guy going to Germany took us after like 15 min.

Maybe you will have better luck, there is almost no traffic, asking around worked in the end we got a ride to Osijek

Its an okay place to get out of the city, we started later in the day with low traffic, asking around. The workers took pity on us and gave us croissants

This is a very good spot for hitchhiking. There are a lot of cars, they are going slowly and they can stop easely. We had a sign to Zagreb and (but you could definitely go further). A nice young guy took us and even offerd us, that we can spend the night at his house in Zagreb.

This is not a great spot, but good enough. We had a sign to Zagreb, after a while a guy stopped and said that it is going to be easier to hitchhike from Karlovac. Than he took us to a gas pump in Karlovac. We had to go another 3 km to the highway entrance ( very good spot)

Dont hitchhike here in the evening, no-one stops. In the morning got lift all the way to Graz

Road towards Slavonski Brod is a bit bumpy but beautiful. Here also people are friendly

we tried to get so split but no one took us, we had a huge sign with „split, jug, south“ then we changed sides and the next car took us to Zadar gaz station

Bus stop with a lot of place to stop for willing drivers and good visibility. The cars go at medium speeds. Traffic is half locals and half tourists, and your only real hope are tourists. We waited for around 2,5 hours before getting a ride to Herzeg Novi from a Ukrainian guy.

Not the best spot. But possible for Opuzen/Dubrovnik. We waited a long time with sign and drivers didn't seemed to care. Luckily a local who saw us earlier in the town took us to opuzen.

We just came down from the mountains, so it was already afternoon ( 17:15), so we were a bit scared that no car would take us this late. Fortunately the opposite happend. A lot of cars going by and a great spot for them to stop. We got a ride to Senj in 15 min. There Is no shade though.

This spot isn't bad, but we were there at a bad time and with a bad destination. We were going to Plitvička Jezera and we started to hitchike at 14:30. A lot of people were going to the highway but nobody was going to our destination at this hour. At the end a man returning from work took us to Otočac and from there we continued with a bus.

In theory not bad, but same problems as the roundabout at the other side of the highway: quite „complex“ traffic here with separated lanes for the cars going in all different directions. You probably wont catch a lot of cars going on to the highway here somehow, even if the spot itself (bus stop) is quite okay for cars to pull over, there is not that much traffic coming by which is going towards the highway. (Area around here itself is quite busy but you definitely got less traffic here than at the other roundabout at the other side somehow) Better try the gas station at the highway next to here, if you wanna catch a ride going on to the highway towards Izola/south/Croatia! (worked for me :))

Avoid the area around the roundabout here if you want to catch traffic going on to the highway towards Izola/south/Croatia! Might seem like a good idea at first but its quite „complex“ traffic here with cars moving quite fast on multipile lanes and with limited options for them to pull over cause lanes are separated depending where they wanna go, so they can’t really pull over. Also a lot of local traffic in different directions here, so its quite busy but cars wont really look at you cause they’re busy theirselves getting the right exit. Better try at the gas station directly at the highway (max. 10 minutes by foot from here), u will have way better chances there, even if there’s not so much traffic going on, and you can maybe also get yourself some shadow there!

Not a good spot at all towards Izola/more south towards Croatia. Basicly no chance for cars to stop here, they are going directly at the highway when they come from the roundabout.

I decided to stay here because (at the time of writing this review) a bus leaves from this stop for the outskirts of the city, which makes it much easier to get out of town. A great spot, but most of the cars were full. You can easily catch a ride to Koper or to Croatia.

This highway is literally dead as of 08/2026. There was roughly one car per minute passing on the highway, so no chance to catch someone on that empty parking lot. We decided to stand right on the highway at the entry to the parking lot, there we were very visible for every passing car and they theoretically were able to take the ramp onto the parking lot. I think an issue is that the highway is very new and also costs money, people also seemed quite unwilling to take us. After 2hours someone stopped and took is to croatia, we were literally about to abort and walk to the next rural road to get to the Udvar boarder crossing into croatia. We could easily have ended up spending the night here if it wasn’t for that nice croatian guy. Wouldn’t recommend this route. Good luck and safe travels.

it’s high trafic, we stood there for hours. wanted to go to Croatia. nothing worked, no tables worked. On this spot hitchhikers staying almost everyday (we have met 13 of them at the same time (CRAZY😁), so that’s why maybe no one takes you even if it’s high traffic. Its better to go to the right on A2 to some bus or gas station (some of us did this and the got picked up). Anyway. Some guys were going to Zagreb and one car took them straight to Zagreb.

Stood here for a good 6 hours trying to get a lift to Zagreb. We weren't offered a single ride (even after dropping our sign), until we finally got one all the day. The driver (a local from Budapest who apparently often drives from Budapest to Zagreb) said it's probably not a good spot for people wanting to go to Croatia.

Heading to Petrovac. On this road, there is a lot of traffic, the traffic is slow, and the sidewalk is at the same level as the road --- so you'd have no problem being seen or the driver pulling over. Signed and thumbed. Got picked up by an Albanian tour van heading towards Croatia. One female

Weak traffic. Also a rival pair of hitchhikers was here 😡😡 not helpful at all! Had ambitions to go to Croatia with a sign Osijek/Bosnia, however after some time we jumped for a car that took us to Mohac.

Almost zero traffic, however, the first car that came by gave us a ride. We had a sign OSIJEK/BOSNIA. She was going to Vinkovci, but ended up drivin us to the Croatia/Bosnia border. Thats why shes the GOAT!!!

Kinda low traffic, wanted to go south towards Croatia, with signs Osijek a Bosnia, got a ride with a guy who was going to Pecs-got dropped off at the last gas station before Pecs.

Two people standing at the petrol station exit, there's a sign pole where we found an "official hitch spot" sticker haha. Since it was Saturday morning and super hot most of the cars were full, lots of locals heading to the beach in Neum. Also a lot of ppl headed to Croatia. We got picked up by lovely couple who initially drove past but backtracked to take us to Stolac.

Although this spot seems hard to get to at first (you have to take a bus, walk and then jump a fence), it is worth it. There was a lot of truckers resting, asked two croatian guys where they were going and they took me right to the slovenia-croatia border.
