Quite a long wait but hitchhiking through borders in balkans is quite bad in my experience. At the end I got a ride but my driver went on this road only for me and then he turned back on road going to smaller border crossing south of the main one as it is apparently better so maybe try finding a spot before this junction

I had to wait a little but i think that this is better spot than the one little bit before as you are catching cars from both roads and most of them still are driving quite slow. From negative sides of this spot sometimes taxis are dropping tourist here or locals are going on the main road from here and you have to wait for short time as there are usually blocking space for driver to stop but from the positives, right in front of this spot on the other side of road there very nice urbex for sleeping with beautiful view over Dubrovnik old town

First good spot on road going from the bridge if you are unlucky and have to walk to this road from Neum (like me😭). Large space for stopping and thanks to recently finished renovation there is 30 km/h speed limit here as nobody removed it even though it's basically finished

Ok spot, but probably the best one around. We were three and caught a ride all the way to Albania.

We were two groups of 3 people and two very friendly Bosnian men took us directly to Bihać, where we wanted to go. The tourist cars are usually full but if you want to go to Bosnia you will for sure meet some bosnian workers going back home.

Just a marking that you can walk through this border but also warning that there is construction site on road starting little behind border and going for like 6 km till bridge. As I didn't wanted to sleep next to a construction site as workers would have probably come here in the morning I decided to walk till end of it and thumb to every passing car. As traffic was really low and it became dark quite quickly I had to walk through entire thing and then slept on the other side of mentioned bridge

Many people going north, waited one hour after the poll with a sign to dubrovnik and nobody stopped Then i changend plans and tried for Mostar before the poll, after 10 minutes I got picked up with 2 other hitchikers Many people ignore you though

Quite good spot if your aiming for Zagreb or füttern sout-east I wanted to go to Split and very few drove to that direction, had to take a ride to zagreb and then walk out of the city

Very great spot! A lot of traffick. People see you coming from a far. And most likely have to take the route follow shore line going north.

Good spot at the petrol station close to the highway. Much traffic but no one is going on the highway to Bosnia because it is dead. You have to go through the small villages to the border where you will have a higher chance going to Bosnia. We were lucky in the end and got a ride directly to the border. Cheers and a safe travel!

Watch out for fascists, one took us there from Osijek and he was fucking nuts. Most of the guys that stop take you to another smaller village. Somehow we met an nice guy and he took us like 30km, which was a lot that day :(

Towards Slovenia, possibility for long distances indeed, not the most used entrance to the highway however there's just about enough cars, mostly fully-packed tourists, wait times of 30-50 minutes expected

I did not use this spot myself but saw two hitchers there with one to a sign to Hungary and the other to Slovenia, it seems alright spot however if you do use this spot beware that it is very little noticeable for the drivers due to the way the trees are and I'd recommend you to put the sign further ahead on the road or to be partly on the side of the road, I literally noticed you lot on the last second, let alone normal car drivers, i am not sure if my driver even saw you guys, just a heads up :)

Great towards Vodnjan, mostly locals, but they are much more willing to stop here than on the bigger roads, wide enough area for cars to stop, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected

This spot sucks dick. As of September 2026 this highway towards Croatia is absolutely dead. One car in 3 minutes is passing. In the evening suddenly a nice croatian guy took us to Osijek were we slept. Without him we would be absolutely fucked and probably still there without a lift. Try the other roads!!! There is way more traffic and more locals use this towards Bosnia.

Easy to access straight from Ljubljana (check hitchhiker wiki for good direction) but not at good spot for going to Zagreb. Not many cars, even fewer going direction Novo Mesto/Croatia

August, Monday, 11 AM, I had luck. Small border between Cro and Bih. Livno-Sinj direction. A teacher from Croatia gave me a ride and helped me a lot. No shadow at all

Catastrofical Spot. Nobody was taking us with. Also really hard to reach. No sidewalk or something to walk on in soght. In general at the coast of Croatia it was really hard to hitchhike. I would recommend the lokal bus lines or the flixbus

Police didn’t really like what we were trying to do and was talking about breaking the law. We talked a bit with him and how we already did it in the rest of Croatia and in the end he was fine. We stood after the toll booth, there is lots of space to pull over. Got a ride half the distance to Mostar.

People in croatia are very fiendly, we walked towards the spot, and they already saw us at the Lidl and then directly stopped

In theory not bad, but same problems as the roundabout at the other side of the highway: quite „complex“ traffic here with separated lanes for the cars going in all different directions. You probably wont catch a lot of cars going on to the highway here somehow, even if the spot itself (bus stop) is quite okay for cars to pull over, there is not that much traffic coming by which is going towards the highway. (Area around here itself is quite busy but you definitely got less traffic here than at the other roundabout at the other side somehow) Better try the gas station at the highway next to here, if you wanna catch a ride going on to the highway towards Izola/south/Croatia! (worked for me :))

Avoid the area around the roundabout here if you want to catch traffic going on to the highway towards Izola/south/Croatia! Might seem like a good idea at first but its quite „complex“ traffic here with cars moving quite fast on multipile lanes and with limited options for them to pull over cause lanes are separated depending where they wanna go, so they can’t really pull over. Also a lot of local traffic in different directions here, so its quite busy but cars wont really look at you cause they’re busy theirselves getting the right exit. Better try at the gas station directly at the highway (max. 10 minutes by foot from here), u will have way better chances there, even if there’s not so much traffic going on, and you can maybe also get yourself some shadow there!

Not a good spot at all towards Izola/more south towards Croatia. Basicly no chance for cars to stop here, they are going directly at the highway when they come from the roundabout.

I decided to stay here because (at the time of writing this review) a bus leaves from this stop for the outskirts of the city, which makes it much easier to get out of town. A great spot, but most of the cars were full. You can easily catch a ride to Koper or to Croatia.

This highway is literally dead as of 08/2026. There was roughly one car per minute passing on the highway, so no chance to catch someone on that empty parking lot. We decided to stand right on the highway at the entry to the parking lot, there we were very visible for every passing car and they theoretically were able to take the ramp onto the parking lot. I think an issue is that the highway is very new and also costs money, people also seemed quite unwilling to take us. After 2hours someone stopped and took is to croatia, we were literally about to abort and walk to the next rural road to get to the Udvar boarder crossing into croatia. We could easily have ended up spending the night here if it wasn’t for that nice croatian guy. Wouldn’t recommend this route. Good luck and safe travels.

it’s high trafic, we stood there for hours. wanted to go to Croatia. nothing worked, no tables worked. On this spot hitchhikers staying almost everyday (we have met 13 of them at the same time (CRAZY😁), so that’s why maybe no one takes you even if it’s high traffic. Its better to go to the right on A2 to some bus or gas station (some of us did this and the got picked up). Anyway. Some guys were going to Zagreb and one car took them straight to Zagreb.

Stood here for a good 6 hours trying to get a lift to Zagreb. We weren't offered a single ride (even after dropping our sign), until we finally got one all the day. The driver (a local from Budapest who apparently often drives from Budapest to Zagreb) said it's probably not a good spot for people wanting to go to Croatia.

Heading to Petrovac. On this road, there is a lot of traffic, the traffic is slow, and the sidewalk is at the same level as the road --- so you'd have no problem being seen or the driver pulling over. Signed and thumbed. Got picked up by an Albanian tour van heading towards Croatia. One female

Weak traffic. Also a rival pair of hitchhikers was here 😡😡 not helpful at all! Had ambitions to go to Croatia with a sign Osijek/Bosnia, however after some time we jumped for a car that took us to Mohac.
