If you don't want to walk further out of town, this is the best spot towards Martigny. Took us not even 3 cars to get a ride there

Towards Chamonix it's best to stay at the Highway onramp just by the roundabout exit. From what we saw, most of the cars to Chamonix choose the highway

Stay at the roundabout exit towards Chamonix with a sign. On a monday morning in Winter nearly no traffic, can be difficult

Stood on the Swiss Side just in front of the "no pedestrians" sign, worked very well. Took not even ten minutes on a nasty gray winter monday morning to get towards the Bonneville service station. Maybe better to wait for a car to Chamonix, not much traffic on that service station.

Stood right behind bridge to head north-bound. Plan was originally to hitchhike to Fort-de-France, but driver suggested to take ferry. Cost 7€ but was money very well spent. Arriving in the capital by boat was lovely, recommendation :)

Asked customers of bakery for ride. Not too well frequented, but mainly tourists going towards Le Diamant

First car took us, but petrol station seemed well visited in general as well

In the winter good luck - its a niche gas station to get into and once your in no one is going far. Good idea but terrible spot, spent 1 hr here already and im still stuck here, one car every 2-3 mins max.

Good spot indeed. I wanted near the bus stop and pulled out the orange vest. 3 cars dropped and offered to take me to Auray, 4th one was rhe good one !

[Young male solo-traveller] Spot was fine, not many cars when I was there, but lots of trucks. A truck driver from Uzbekistan finally picked me up after 30 minutes.

[Young male solo-traveller] It's a pretty good place to continue east or west (2 other hitchhikers where there). However, I strongly recommend talking to cars rather than standing there with your thumb out.

[Young male solo-traveller] It's not ideal because hitchhiking is prohibited at toll booths in France (the police won't give you a fine tho), but I was fortunate and got picked up after 5min. Cars can stop at the rest area to pick you up, and you can also ask drivers there.

I just landed in Geneva Airport and tried to get BlaBlaBus to Grenoble, but it got canceled :/ So I just found this spot on Google maps and decided to give it a try. There's enough space for cars to pull over, but not for trucks. And the road turns directly to the highway. A lot of French drivers, who work in Geneva and live in France go this way. Took some time but got a great company on the way and it was easier once in France.

traffic mostly going to switzerland via basel, however i can't think of another option for france. can be a bit of a wait to get someone who goes at least to belfort and can drop you on the porte d'alsace. it's worth the wait. male, early 30s, alone

Great place towards Pontarlier. Preferably wait for a ride to France and not Le Locle, from then on its not difficult. Enough space to pull over, this spot seems much better than everything I've seen while walking from the train station.

Easy ride in the night with a swiss guy, I stop at Shauinsland for the night to go in France.

Suffisamment de place pour que les voitures s'arrêtent. Nous voulions aller à Amiens mais les gens ne faisaient que des courts trajets. Un monsieur nous a emmené jusqu'à l'Aire de Coeur des Hauts-de-France Est au bout de presque 2h.

Good visible spot, cars can stop next to the road. Entrance to highways towards Germany and France. Lots of local trafic & French and German cars. But no luck with sign Freiburg. Finaly got a lift to Weil border gasstation.

Found a car in the direction of Mons, France pretty fast by asking around. A lovely person too that gave me control of the aux.

May favourite starting spot to get out of the area to the Netherlands/Belgium/France. So far has worked out for me fairly quickly every single time. This review is super late, but I was there in May in the afternoon and found folks going my direction in half an hour by asking around. It only took half an hour because they wanted to finish their meal (which, totally fair.) I think the finding itself only took about 10 minutes.

Wanted to go South towards Spain, had a sign with A6 / A10 Sud de la France but had to wait pretty long until I found a proper ride. There's a traffic light and also some place to stop for cars, but most of the people just drove by without stopping, it was hard since many are not going out of town. Still, after 3h I got lucky and found a man that took me 4 hours South and I had no stress, so it was fine :)

Nice spot, dirt/gravel place where cars can stop and lot of traffic. Close to onramp to various directions (west, north, south) it was raining and we were cold so we agreed to get driven to Pirmasens (direction France) where we found shelter in a church

I was there twice on my way to France. It´s very easy to get a ride in the right direction, so great Spot. Hitchhiking further into France I always got stuck up in Mulhouse, so maybe it´s worth trying over Basel or waiting fore someone who brings you to a gas station, not some roundabout near Mullhouse.
