Me, my LOVE and our dog were here for quite a long time and were prepared to sleep in the Forrest for the night. However at the most unexpected time a car stopped and took us to La Junquera even though we had a sign with Perpignan. But since on the way and our destination is Portugal we took it! Lucky us since we are two with backpacks and a dog……:)

Good spot I think. Cars are quiet slow because of the roundabout and every car passing you is going in the right direction. Should be easy to get a lift to Vesoul.

Looks like a good spot, many cars and trucks go by. But they are quiet fast and trucks can barely stop there. But will also servive since there is a mall shop and restaurant/café.

The spot is alright, with a lot of space for cars to stop. Iwas a bit afraid for my first hitchhiking experience in Spain as I read that it would be significantly more difficult than in France. I was on my way to a village close to Girona which is a bit of an awkward way from Puigcerda so I wrote Ripoll and Vic on my cardboard. Eventually someone stopped and said he would take me to the place where the road to Ripoll starts. After talking a bit it turned out he would be going all the way to Girona in the afternoon after having lunch with his wife. I had to kill a few hours but was very lucky with my direct ride.

Spot alright, rather quiet though on a Thursday morning. I had a sign saying Mons, France and asked the people that were there. In the end an older lady stopped and brought me to a petrol station about 100 km before Paris.

We were trying to go toward Zaragoza. Took us a while to realize that wasn't going to happen. Most people are going either to France or Barcelona. Around lunchtime we decided to accept a ride to Barcelona and ask a drop off before the highway exit. But by that time there were almost no cars coming through, and the ones that did weren't going to Barcelona.
One truck driver accepted to drive one person, but we were two and wanted to stick together. In the end we took a bus to Figueres and then a train to Barcelona.

Last gas station in France before the border. I wouldn't recommend to stop to the border. I would recommend to have at least few sentences in spanish and portuguese to ask driver, it makes a huge difference (see hitchwiki.org)
I luckily got a ride to Burgos. end of august

Not so busy, we tried to ask people for Nice / Marseille direction. A Swiss older couple on Tesla took us before Nice, above Monaco. From there it was easier because we were finally in France. Good luck.

banger, i find this one reliable to go far into france direction reims. heading northwest, don't bother taking rides shorter than aire du haut-koenigsbourg. there's plenty of ppl going long distances, especially luxembourg/belgium. also loads of german cars.

traffic is not crazy, but this is still my pick of choice to get to england from france. i've had varying luck ranging from rides in 2h to, this time, getting there at 18:30 and only getting a lift at 10:00, with only 4h spent sleeping. i strongly recommend asking around, maybe with a sign.
not huge amounts of traffic but very solid proportion of UK cars (seasonally dependent). i've found that many english cars can be downright mean and are often full, but don't get discouraged! there are also some nice ones worth waiting for.
easy enough to give up and go to calais if you're in a rush.
indoor bits close at 22:00 but i believe the one opposite stays open.
someone called the cops and staff lady vouched for me so they apologised and left me alone

Not ideal stopping space, there is on the other side to go to Andorra, but to get into France less so, but it wasnt busy so I got a lift fairly quickly

I just landed in Geneva Airport and tried to get BlaBlaBus to Grenoble, but it got canceled :/
So I just found this spot on Google maps and decided to give it a try. There's enough space for cars to pull over, but not for trucks. And the road turns directly to the highway.
A lot of French drivers, who work in Geneva and live in France go this way. Took some time but got a great company on the way and it was easier once in France.

Stood right behind bridge to head north-bound. Plan was originally to hitchhike to Fort-de-France, but driver suggested to take ferry. Cost 7€ but was money very well spent. Arriving in the capital by boat was lovely, recommendation :)

It's not ideal because hitchhiking is prohibited at toll booths in France (the police won't give you a fine tho), but I was fortunate and got picked up after 5min. Cars can stop at the rest area to pick you up, and you can also ask drivers there.

traffic mostly going to switzerland via basel, however i can't think of another option for france. can be a bit of a wait to get someone who goes at least to belfort and can drop you on the porte d'alsace. it's worth the wait. male, early 30s, alone

Great place towards Pontarlier. Preferably wait for a ride to France and not Le Locle, from then on its not difficult. Enough space to pull over, this spot seems much better than everything I've seen while walking from the train station.
